The L.G.B.T. Community: Hardships Faced Who decides what is normal in this world? What gives us the right to discriminate against an individual, specifically individuals of the L.G.B.T. community? Can a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender person have a normal career? If they do have a career, will they be able to advance? Relationships can be tested in the workplace, which can hinder one 's career. Both bosses and co-workers can treat members of the L.G.B.T. unfairly. Bosses can discriminate against the L.G.B.T. lifestyle and co-workers can sexually harass and judge their different, nontraditional co-workers. The people of the L.G.B.T. organization often experience difficulty with their bosses at work. They face discrimination at the very beginning of their careers, starting with the interview. In comparison to the billions and billions of heterosexuals that work, this means that only a small percentage of the L.G.B.T. community represents the workforce of the United States. However, L.G.B.T. employees face discrimination because of their sexual orientation. Discrimination against people of different sexual orientations is widely experienced throughout the workforce (Militello 2). Some forms of discrimination include harassment, verbal or physical abuse, taunts, insults, or name-calling. Being discriminated on due to one’s sexual orientation, whether lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender is unethical. What one wants to be is solely up to that individual and no one should perceive them to be any less of a person just because they are not similar by means of their sexual
