Child Labor is a major issue among nations because it prevents children from receiving the education that they should be getting to better their future. Instead of going to school, these children are working in agriculture, the manufacturing industry, factories, and other activities that involve drugs and prostitution. Child Labor ultimately exists because these economies are so poor that it is a much cheaper way to get things done and bring money forth. Child Labor has existed for centuries and even with new laws and regulations, children are still working underage and not attending school.
There are many characteristics that is incorporated into Child Labor. According to The Child Labor Public Education Project, Sydney Donahoe states that the following characteristics are:
Violates a nation’s minimum age law
Threatens children’s physical, mental or emotional well being
Involves intolerable abuse, such as child slavery, child trafficking, debt bondage, forced labor or illicit activities
Prevents children from going to school
Uses children to undermine labor standards
Among many concerns about children being forced into labor, the fact that they are not receiving the education that they should be is a major problem. These laws and regulations are suppose to make sure that these children are at school rather than working. It is an attempt to stop child labor, because nobody should be violating these laws. The laws and regulations that should be implemented differ from state to state. According to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, New Jersey states that minors under the age of 18 should not be allowed to work more than 40 hours per week. There are also laws regarding their lunch period for ages under 18. T...

Even though we have come a long way in trying to prevent child labor, it is amazing that almost every product that we may have heard of involves some sort of child labor . I believe that if companies were more concerned with where they are getting their products and less concerned with spending the least amount of money we could prevent child labor. If big name companies boycott these areas that are known for their high index of chid labor, it would definitely reduce the number. If companies like Victoria Secret, Hershey’s, Apple, and Walmart, stopped buying from these high index countries, then there would be no reason for children to be working. It is a major issue and it should be a priority to get these kids into school and focusing on their education instead of working at such a young age.
