The issue of CyberBullying and Bullying in the american school system has increased tremendously over the years. Bullying has become a huge problem in schools with kids between the grades of 6 to 10. Statistics show that about 30% of students are involved in bullying in the US and about 1 in every 5 admit that they are responsible for bullying their peers. About 77% of all students are being verbally bullied in the US. Being bullied can have an impact in the life of the victim and contributes to the development of depression or anxiety. The issue will only increase with new technology and social network being available to young teens and will cause many more problems if communities or schools don 't come up with a solution.

Parents need to learn how to talk to their kids about the issue and they need to pay attention to their kids so they know when they are victims of bullying or they are bullying their peers. Schools should give out a clear definition of bullying and lay out the consequences of it to their students so they can try and prevent it from happening. Long Island 's Child Abuse Services lead organizations targeting bullying prevention. A student led campaign was introduced to promote tolerance, end bullying and change culture. Long Island schools, Community Organizations and government officials are working to create awareness of the problem and establish safety to students attending school. Schools principals and staff should be very vigilant of the students and what goes on in the hallways so that everyone there feels safe. Parents need to teach their kids to speak up and if they see anything that shouldn 't be happening to speak up and tell an adult. The more the students are aware of the issue the safer students that are victims feel because they know someone is keeping watch in school. If a student is caught bullying the school principal should provide counseling for the students and perform interviews with the victim and the bully. They should have the victim and the bully meet and listen to both sides of their stories. Bullies need to understand that bullying is not tolerated under any circumstance and that their will be consequences to those that fail to follow the rules. Older students and Leaders can also contribute to raise awareness of this issue by also being vigilant in school and sending out a clear message that bullying is not tolerated. The act of bullying has been present in children’s life throughout time. It has been seen in movies, books, and even real life situations. In recent years there has been in increase in the use of technology and the Internet. As a result a new type of bullying has been introduced to today’s generation of teenagers. This new type of bullying is known as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying has a negative impact on the lives of the teenagers that experience it.
Bullying is a prevalent issue in school communities across the world which has caused great damages to the bullied. In fact, suicides is one of the leading cause of deaths in students 10 to 14 years old and the cause of suicide was overwhelmingly from bullying. Bullying is pervasive amongst all age groups; statistics show there is an estimated 1 in 7 students grades K-12 who are being bullied. Social media is increasingly becoming the new medium for bullying where anonymity allow bullies to be as toxic as pleases them. So what good solutions has our schools came up for this? Nothing, most students agree.
Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
Adolescents in today’s society face a lot more conflict in their personal lives than more people aware of. Bullying has become a vast issue in some people’s lives. Bullying involves the negative and hurtful interaction between two people. One or both tear down self-esteem and self-confidence of the other. Each of these leaves a negative impact on people’s lives and can hurt them in the future. There are many different kinds of bullying, some being traditional bullying and cyber-bullying. In the earlier years, bullying was easily controlled because of the limitations of technology but now technology is growing at a rapid pace. Instead of the traditional face-to-face bullying, cyber-bullying is more common in today society due to this growth.
Educators attempt to provide safe, nurturing environments where students can thrive. Any disturbance to this climate can have negative affects on students’ educational performances. Bullying is one such disruption. Unfortunately, physical and verbal abuse are nothing new in the school setting, however, the rise of technology in our country has created a new setting for bullies to target their victims. Cyberbulling, or the use of any number of technological means to harm or harass another, has become an increasingly prevalent occurrence, specifically among school-aged children (Campfield, 2006).
Bullying is an issue that has been around for decades and is something that can affect everyone, no matter what his or her age is. Even though bullying has changed over the years from being physical abuse and harassment that happens on the playgrounds of schoolyards to tormenting over the Internet. The same groups are still affected namely adolescents. Statistically about 30 percent of all teenagers in the United States are bullied in one-way or another (“Teenage Bullying”).
Bullying against teens is still happening even though there are various awareness programs to try to prevent it. I want to create awareness of bullying against teens of all religions, race, and sexual orientation. Even with the various attention to bullying, the problem still persists despite the school providing awareness, students are still afraid to say anything. Societal patterns today make bullying a difficult issue to eliminate. Starting in 2007, a total of 35 states made laws to go against bullying at school. These laws consisted of a clear definition of bullying, and how schools will be required to enforce uniform standards of conduct. The reason bullying comes as such an issue to me is because I actually know friends that have been suicidal and have caused themselves harm due to being bullied every day, in school and at home.
Bullying has always been present within the United States. Although the issue has been around for a long time, it continues to grow and become more of problem. It is said that about 160,000 children within the United States are refusing to go to school because of bullying. Another statistic is that within American schools alone, there are an estimated 2.1 billion bullies and 2.7 billion victims (Dan Olewus, MBNBD). The numbers presented here are outrageous and although there are organizations to stop bullying, obviously there needs to be a new set of solutions. Any type of bullying presents problems to children, “Suicide, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, trouble with the law, poor performance in school and work, and lack of involvement in socially accepted activities are some of the difficulties resulting from bullying (Austin, Reynolds, Barnes, Shirley). Of course, there is more than just a single type of bullying. Feeding ground for bullies can range anywhere from text-message or cyberbullying to physical bullying in schools. Also, bullies can begin to strike at a young age and could also be; teenage, middle-age, or even the elderly. Even though there are these many versions of problematic bullies, the largest bullying problems take place within the school setting: a place that is supposed to be safe for children rather than harmful. Although it seems impossible to completely get rid of bullying, these are a few suggested solutions; making the school informed on bullying issues, schools implementing rules on bullying, and having students positively use electronics to stop bullying.
Bullying is a worldwide problem and it requires immediate attention because it psychologically affects both the victims and the bullies. Victims may ultimately have suicidal thoughts and bullies will have uncontrolled behaviors that carry on through school and after school, but they can be helped. Although cyber bullying is a big obstacle due to the large-scale usage of internet and the ability to conceal identities, technological advancements and child supervision help to single out these individuals to reduce the amount of bullying that occurs.
What is Cyber bullying? Cyber bullying is just like regular bullying but instead of bullying face to face, it’s done on the internet. In America, cyber bullying has gotten out of hand during the past year. Unfortunately kids who are bullied through the internet have a difficult time getting away from the bullying. Children today walk the street while thinking or knowing they will get picked on. This has also caused teens to commit suicide. Usually teens that are the bullies have a lower self-esteem than the person they’re bulling. Teens today use the internet more than anything excluding sleep. In two thousand and eight young teens ages 12-17 had access to the internet. Cyber bullying needs to stop before more of our children hurt themselves. Studies show that most likely a female would be the most bullied. A high percent of teens have been angry, frustrated, sad, embarrassed, scared and shockingly a small percent weren't even bothered.
Nowadays bullying has gone much farther than just physical violence. Most teens today have either been cyber bullied or have been witnesses to it. Cyber bullying is a form of bullying that is done over electronic messaging or over social media. This is very new to many people of the older generation, but is very relevant to the new generation. Cyber bullying is becoming an increasingly big problem in the U.S. every year. Being a kid who has grown up with technology and social media I have witnessed cyber bullying many times in my life. I have had many friends that have fell victim to cyber bullying and this is why I chose to talk about this topic. Since this topic of bullying is overlooked in our society as not being an issue I decided to choose
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others.
