BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Two explosions rocked western Baghdad's al-Shu'lah neighborhood near a Shiite Muslim mosque on Sunday, killing at least 15 people and wounding at least 57, Iraqi police said. The first blast was triggered near the mosque -- and when people gathered near the scene, a suicide car bomber drove into the crowd and detonated the vehicle in the second blast, police said. Word of the blasts in the capital came just hours after news of two suicide car bombs in Tikrit, about 90 miles (150 km) north of Baghdad. The bombs exploded just 15 minutes and a short distance apart, killing at least six people and wounding 26 at an Iraqi Police Academy in Tikrit, according to an official with Tikrit's governor's office. Police were responding to the first explosion -- which happened in front of the police academy at 8 a.m. (12 a.m. EDT) -- when the second car bomb detonated close by at the meteorology building, the official said.
He then started the detonation of the timed bomb at exactly 9:02 A.M. then the bomb exploded. To the people of Oklahoma it was a traumatizing moment for all, many lost families, dozens of cars were incinerated and more than 300 buildings were destroyed and caused about $652 million worth of damages. The “OKBOMB” affected hundreds of people; it killed “168 people -- 19 of them children -- and injured more than 500.” (CNN.com) Within 90 minutes of the explosion, McVeigh was pulled over 80 miles north of Oklahoma City by a state trooper who noticed McVeigh's missing license plate. He was later arrested for having a concealed weapon. From there, a investigation was held and agents found traces of chemicals on McVeigh’s clothing similar to the ones from the bomb.
1. Crime and Details Timothy James McVeigh is an American terrorist and a mass murderer who detonated a bomb in front of Alfred P Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City in April 1995 (Valentine, 2001). This attack led to the death of more than 168 innocent people while many are injured Valentine (2001). People called Timothy “The Oklahoma City Bomber” after launching the attack. This becomes one of the deadliest acts of terrorism attacks in the American history prior to September 11, 2001 bombing (Jaworski & Morris, 2003).
President George W. Bush sent the U.S into Iraq because he thought Iraq created and possessed weapons of mass destruction. Four thousand eight hundred and two U.S soldiers lost their lives. They lost their lives for no reason. Iraq having weapons of mass destruction turned out to be false. On the month of April in 2004, in the city of Habbaniyah, Iraq, a brutal and terrible act took place which ignited one of the bloodiest battles in the history of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Four Black Water security members were killed and publicly maimed. The resulting battle left a high casualty rate as well as hundreds of American service members being wounded. This is the story of the events that took place after the events in the city of Habbaniyah. On the 31st of March, 2004, a convoy was an attacked.
This mass murder was considered the largest terrorist attack before the September 11 attacks in 2001. The bomb was located in a rental truck in front of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The nation shook as each floor of the building collapsed. The main suspect was a former army soldier, Timothy McVeigh was all to blame with a few accomplices by his side. This attack occurred due to a mixture of both diesel fuel and fertilizer in the powerful bomb.
Shortly after the Tehran experience, Americans began to be kidnapped and killed throughout the Middle East. America could do little to protect her citizens living and working abroad. The attacks against US soil continued. In April of 1983 a large vehicle packed with high explosives was driven into the US Embassy compound in Beirut. When it explodes, it kills 63 people.
Given this dichotomy the global community must respond rationally and with a coherent and consistent policy. Body: On August 14, 2007, multiple car bombings in Al-Adnaniyah and Al-Qataniyah in Iraq killed upwards of eight-hundred people (Cave). The operation consisted of four suicide bomb attacks. Behind the attacks of September 11, 2001, this was the second worst act of terrorism in history. It was also the most deadly throughout all of the Iraq War.
The government was handed to the Iraqis on June 28, 2004. At present day, fighting between the U.S. Army and indigenous insurgents, combined with the killing of American hostages amount to a great deal of strife and agony to the American people. On average, 3 4 U.S. citizens serving in the military die each day in Iraq, and some days have amassed as many as 12 deaths in one day. ("Casualties in Iraq") I urge the American people to realize this is a great injustice. I do not condone 9/11 in any way, shape or form.
