The Internet is possibly one of the most innovative and useful inventions of our time. The Internet can be defined as a worldwide system of connected computer networks that are linked to countless amounts of devices through out the world. Todays Internet allows us to complete just about any task you can throw at it, anything from shopping, paying taxes, keeping in touch with friends, and even starting your vehicle. The rate at which the Internet today is progressing is truly remarkable; there are constantly so many different and new systems as well as functions being released. Although many say that communication technology will always continue to get faster and cheaper, the Internet costs have stayed fairly stable. The speed of the Internet continues to increase at a rate at which people would have never considered to be possible.
The Internet has made the lives of its users much easier on a day-to-day basis, but that was not the intentions behind the creation of the Internet. The idea of the Internet started roughly forty years ago when President Eisenhower and the Defense Department founded the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) in 1958. The Defense Department founded ARPA when we were deep into The Cold War, which was the specific period in which the United States was constantly at fear of being hit with a nuclear warhead. In 1957, the USSR launched Sputnik, the first satellite to orbit the Earth, and although it had no functions at all other than to beep and orbit Earth, this really alarmed the United States because they thought we were being spied on. ...cle that is completely navigated by the Internet, which was unheard of just years ago. This just proves that it is very hard to determine what is possible and impossible with todays technology. Surprisingly, technology keeps enhancing itself. Once you think it can not progress anymore, it does. Technology of today’s world is truly incredible. Computers contain so many different services and functions. We have parental blocks and multiple services like that, but kids can always find their way around it. Due to the Internet often being a dangerous place, especially for children, I would like to have a certain assurance that my kids will not have access to the disturbing parts of the Internet, maybe even a finger print recognition pad that disables and enables full access. It is a broad idea but I think something down the lines of this would benefit our society.
