As I have reflected on the examined life, intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, over the span of this semester and applied it to our own life, I have noticed a theme that links each of these dimensions together. Life is a journey of self discovery where individuals are constantly trying to come to terms with who they are as a person. Through this journey, individuals can find their calling or vocation in life, discover their potential, know one’s self, and even just make sense of life. Furthermore, I will examine this theme of self discovery in the context of each dimension and apply it to what I have learned over the course of this semester. The intellectual dimension talked mainly about education and cognitive …show more content…
Having a healthy body can contribute to an individual’s overall well being and happiness. In the reading about virtue and health by Gary Ferngren, we learn about the meaning of ‘virtue’ in the ancient world which referred to the “quality or proficiency of men…” instead of in reference to moral behavior (Ferngren 176). The Greeks considered health to be essential to one’s virtue. Maintaining a healthy diet will help an individual perform better. Personally, I find that healthy habits are beneficial and uplifting for the soul. Those days when I eat right and am active, I am in high spirits, I feel good, and I am more motivated to achieve things. According to new US dietary guidelines, most Americans “don’t get enough health-enhancing and disease-preventing nutrients” which is a major problem that is not only physically detrimental, but also discouraging in terms of one’s mental health (Mayo Clinic Staff, “New dietary guidelines” 3). When I feel healthy on the inside, I have greater self-esteem and confidence and this is really important when it comes to how others view themselves or they potential. It also helps to maintain a positive outlook on
2) This idea is an autobiographical exploration, because in order to have a positive approach to life’s challenges, you must realize who you are as a person. One of the most challenging aspects in life is this concept of self. Who am I, am I what I do, where I spend my time? When I was younger, I was looking for myself in all the wrong places. I did many experimental things in my journey of
Being healthy in body and mind is the core of personal wellness. Getting to that point though is a process and it takes deliberate actions to make it happen. It requires choosing which behaviors will help and which ones won't. It requires making decisions every day that helps take a person to a better state of body and mind health.
The journey towards finding one’s “self” is a long and arduous one, twisting and turning in every direction. The destination is a personal identity -- a definition of who one is, independent of anyone else. Some people find a straight path that leads them directly to the discovery of their “selves”. Other people take the road that has many switch-backs and obstacles to overcome, but eventually these people make it to the destination of “self” as well. There are still others who get lost along the way.
Next time you think of the importance of healthy living, think of how well you are balancing your diet. Hopefully you will remember how beneficial a balanced diet is for your physical, mental, and emotional health. If you balance your diet, you will truly feel like a new and improved version of yourself. So next time you’re about to eat something, ask yourself: Will this limit me or help me in becoming a healthy person?
Being healthy is one of the most important Be Your Best Self aspects because it encompasses so much of our day-to-day lives. To be described as healthy, I not only have to be physically fit, but also mentally, socially, and financially fit. Being healthy has many benefits. Exercise allows a person to be a happier, calm, energized, and confident individual. The same can be said for exercising the brain, socializing, and keeping finances in order. By being healthy I will feel better every day and find fierce determination and discipline in the process.
Individuals undergo a transition which consists of confusion and questioning one’s identity before finding their true self. Once individuals realize their true identity they perceive themselves differently and find their purpose of
Sometimes the beliefs one develops from their family stay with them. Sometimes those beliefs diminish as one gets older and starts to experience life. The old saying goes “With age comes wisdom. Acknowledgment of one’s true self then becomes apparent.”This paper shows how acknowledging one's self-leads to self-discovery.
Keeping up a healthy lifestyle can be very difficult. Between work, school, and life in general, people barely have time to eat three meals a day. A lot of people struggle to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity in their daily routines. People forget that if they take care of themselves, it might help make their day a bit better. A healthy lifestyle is a very important part of living a better life.
I have always been one to spend my time watching things that others wouldn 't think to watch. I have seen things like “The Wind Rises” by Hayao Miyazaki, “Queen” by Vikas Bahl and my favorite “Mary Kom” by Omung Kumar. From documentaries to animes, to silent films. I have dabbled in a little of everything so far. I am known to watch a few of these to pass my summer as well. So, when it came time to watch the foreign film “The Lives of Others” directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, I was fully aware of what to expect. From the subtitles to funny English accents, to sharpening my skill of being able to read the words and focus on the action at hand. You could say I 'm somewhat of an expert in those areas. Thank you anime! The movie was
healthy is a major component in ones’ overall wellbeing, more so mentally, but being healthy
The majority of people in this society try to exercise and eat right to stay healthy. The problem is that they worry more about exercising and not getting good nutrition. They do not understand that exercise is not enough to be healthy. In order to be healthy, people should be aware of what they eat. This may not be easy for everyone, but one can get support from family and friends in order for it to be easy. Good nutrition is more important than regular exercise because it helps in losing weight, helps to fuel the body, prevent the risk of getting diseases, and helps building muscles.

“A student of life considers the world their classroom” – Harvey MacKay. This quote exemplifies what I aspire to become, a student of life. This is a person who is constantly learning, growing, and evolving, and using the lessons they learn as their platform. In order for one to become a student of life, I believe that learning experiences don’t necessarily always have to happen in the classroom. I have found that through traveling and real life experiences, my way of thinking about life and how things happen has been shaped with a broader understanding of knowledge, rather than just by sitting in a classroom and taking notes. I feel strongly that the traditional model of learning is very effective and that there is much to be learned in this manner, however being able to take what you learn and apply it on a much deeper level through visiting new places and experiencing new cultures and cuisines has helped me develop myself further and become a more well rounded individual.
