Social media; almost everyone in the Unites States take a part of this phenome. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter; it is apart of everyday life. Social media is what keeps the world spinning, bringing its users updates on what is going on in the world and the world revolving around their friends. It is our generation 's new form of communication through “likes”, “shares”, “comments”, and “friend requests.” What makes us so addicted to looking down at our phones, and engaging in social media applications? Instead of calling loved ones or friends to tell them what has been going on in life, now it is simplified to updating a post on social media. Our posts say a lot about who we are, and what we like, according to the article, “68% of people say they share to give others a better sense of who they are and what they care about” (Seiter). In agreeance, I see, for example, twitter users “retweeting” (sharing someone 's post) friends or popular account’s posts. Retweeting, shows what you agree with and are interested in, sometimes even who you are interested in. For instance, “social media relationships” share and retweet posts and pictures from their significant other’s account, in a way showing their followers that they are “talking to someone” or to give a hint to the person they are retweeting that they are interested in them. Social media has completely changed the way couples communicate as well, now, to show that they are into each other, they have to post about them and make sure to like their statuses they post. My friend, for example, broke up with her boyfriend because he never posted about her, and rarely commented on her pictures on social media; regardless if he was a genuine guy or not, because he did not fulfill her “social media need” she broke up with him.
