1- Discuss Romeo’s infatuation with Rosaline , and later with juliet. Is Romeo truly in love with these girls, or is it something else.

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare talking about two young lovers who fell in love with each others whose deaths reconcile their family.
At the beginning of the play we see Romeo the young handsome man who came from a wealthy family falling in love with a young girl named Rosaline. Rosaline is Capulet’s niece and Juliet cousin . Romeo describe her as wonderfully beautiful ” the

She has obviously not requited his love, and that made him very depressed. Romeo gives the reader a lot of indication that he is unhappy and how miserable he feel after he lost his love to her. He doesn't
Hamed 2 think he will ever get over Rosaline. "This love feel I, that feel no love in this" "Love sucks.” Romeo hate feeling this way.When Romeo sees Juliet at the Capulet's party, he forgets about Rosaline and quickly fall in love with juliet .
We can notice that Romeo is immature and he can't tell the difference between love and desire as he falls in and out of love so easily. I believe that the lack of maturity of Romeo lead him to easily forget about what he called true love”Rosaline” so quickly and fall with juliet in a brief time. “O, she doth teach the torches to “ (Act I, Scene 5) when Romeo first saw Juliet dancing with a knight; he notice the beauty of Juliet and he thought that she will be so great that she could teach the torches how to burn bright. Romeo doesn't know how to overcome his feelings, he can't tell the difference between love and infatuation .
Infatuation is passion, a short lived feeling and that what we see between romeo and rosaline . Love in other hand, is choice ,it is a decision to continue to trust ,admire and to commit .

I believe that Romeo feeling is infatuation and we can notice that on the quick switch between Rosaline and juliet. Romeo after he lost the love of Rosaline fall in love with Juliet very quickly .I personally believe that it was infatuation.Romeo was already “in love” with rosaline when he met Juliet. They loved each others before they even spoke i don’t think it is a true love.
Juliet was looking for a way to get out of the arranged married from Paris And for her marrying romeo was the perfect way; in the other hand Romeo was just trying to get over Rosaline. He was so depressed so emotional he was just looking for some replacement.

At the start of the play we see that Romeo is in love with Roseline and that he only talks about her but when he meets Juliet at the party he totally forgets Roseline and falls in love with Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a story of two young lovers. These two hearts, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, belong to feuding families. The family feud causes them to keep their love a secret and therefore only Romeo, Juliet, Benvolio, the Nurse and Friar Lawrence know of their love. Romeo and Juliet are able to look past the feud and let themselves fall in mad love with the other. They let themselves do almost anything for the other and at times it seems like too much to do, even for the one they love.
Every day it’s possible to find something related to romance. There are so many “epic” stories that have gone down in history but a lot of them were infatuation mistaken for true love. Infatuation is a lot like love so it’s difficult to pick the two apart. They both are strong intense feelings and make you feel the same emotions but infatuation typically takes off very fast and is short lived. It’s more of an obsession based off of physical attraction and leads to absurd, impulsive decisions. A lot of the qualities of this fixation describe Romeo and Juliet’s marriage. “Romeo, Romeo, Romeo, I drink to thee!” (IV.iv.58) in this scene Juliet drank poison so she could fake her death to be with her lover which is an insane choice. When in love crazy things can be done but with infatuation a person will do anything to feel the euphoria again without even giving the consequences much thought. This is alike what Juliet did because she didn’t have any second thoughts until the very last minute before drinking the poison. “The measure done, I’ll watch her place of stand / And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand. / Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight! / For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” (I.V.50-53) this was when he first saw her. “Romeo and Juliet”, a play composed by William Shakespeare, is about a boy and a girl who are fall in love with each other at first sight, but soon find out that they have fallen in love with the child of their parents enemy. Seeing fate is not on their side due to the ongoing feud between their parents, they are willing to do anything to be together, which unfortunately leads to both of their demise. Many people question if the love between Romeo and Juliet was true. The love between the two was not true because they fell in love with each other’s appearances, they didn’t know each other long enough to actually figure out each other, and they were hardly thinking straight during the relationship.
However, no one is able to on account of the fact that the audience is so focused on how rash and unwise they are. Within the first few hours of knowing Romeo, Juliet bemoans the fact that her “only love, sprung from [her] only hate.” First off, she barely met the guy and she’s already saying that he’s her only love. It doesn’t make any sense.
Romeo's inclination to fall in love easily was first shown in his love for Rosaline. It was illustrated perfectly when he first met Juliet. "Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight. For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night". (Lines 50-51, Scene 5, Act 1) He say this but he seemed to have forgotten Rosaline like old news, even though he speaks of Juliet as he spoke of Rosaline only a few short hours before. "One fairer than my love! The all-seeing sun ne'er saw her match, since first the world begun" (Lines 94-95, Scene 2, Act 1). Romeo immaturity was further shown by the way he handled Tybalt's slaying of Mercutio.
1. Romeo is so love struck that he compares Juliet to many things that show contrast to one another. For example he says that she stands out against the darkness like a jeweled earring hanging against the cheek of an African. “It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night like a rich jewel in an Ethiope’s ear.” He also says that she is like a white dove in the middle of a flock of crows; “So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows.” At this point it clear that Romeo has fallen out of love with Rosaline and fell deeply in love with Juliet.
Yet when Romeo sees Juliet for the first time, he forgets all about Rosaline and instantly falls for Juliet. In Act 1.5, Romeo is the first to spot Juliet and immediately feels an attraction to her. In addition, Romeo thinks Juliet is very beautiful and convinces her to kiss him without knowing each other. Then in Act 2.1, Romeo pursues Juliet and goes to her balcony and begins to profess his love for her. When Romeo is swearing that he is in love with Juliet, she stops him and says everything is happening so quickly.

It shows that he prioritized her looks above anything else which by definition is not true love. Subsequently after “meeting” the couples short term infatuation becomes more apparent. Romeo pulls Juliet into a hallway and convinces Juliet to kiss him, “My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a render kiss” (1.5.95-96). Romeo’s actions once again prove that he is not truly in love. Instead of getting to know Juliet he decides to kiss her. The two demonstrate that any non physical characteristics are close to irrelevant to each other. After their affair Romeo leaves the Capulet’s party. Juliet then turns to nurse to and asks for Romeo’s name. Nurse responds by telling Juliet that she knows not who the man was, “What’s he that follows here that would not dance”? “I know not” (1.5.132). The simple action is all that is
I believe Romeo is both right and wrong: unrequited love is painful, but Romeo does not truly love - as he is merely infatuated by a woman. Another type of love we are exposed to during the same scene is the love of Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet, as well as The Nurse, believes love comes from appearance, both physical and political, and has nothing to do with emotion. She shows this when she speaks favorably of Paris's looks and his nobility. She also shows that it is a superficial love by the way she treats Capulet when she publicly denounces him.
Even before Juliet is introduced, Romeo considers himself to be in love with Rosaline. Although he says that it is true love, stating “.. Doth add more grief to too much of mine own. Love is a smoke raised with the fume of sighs; Being purged, a fire sparkling in lovers' eyes.” (Shakespeare, I.1.23), it is clear that his obsession with Rosaline is purely surface-level.
