God created everything including living and non-living things. This made up a complex relationship between human and animals. Animals are used for variety of purposes such as providing food, acting as companion and using for scientific research. As humans developed their skills, they started to domesticate animals. Livestock are domesticated animals raised in an agricultural setting to produce commodities such as food, fibre and labour. The world’s population now exceeds seven billion. The number of farm animals reared for food globally has risen from 60 billion a year to just over 70 billion in just five years. (Philip Lymbery, 2010). Livestock meet an estimated 30 percent of total human needs for food and agriculture in the form of meat, milk, eggs, fibre, fertilizer for crops, fuel and draught power, and also serve as a very important cash reserve in many farming systems. This large contribution to food security comes from approximately 5,000 breeds comprising 40 domestic animal species (G. E. Pollott, n.d.). According to Federation of Livestock Farmers' Association Malaysia (FLFAM), the livestock sector represents the largest food industry segment in Malaysia in terms of output value. Two out of three farm animals are now reared intensively. This scenario reflects the importance of livestock production system to human. Thus, we are going to discuss about technology involved in one of the production that originates from livestock, milk, as well as advantages and disadvantages that come with heightened livestock production.

Series of serious actions should be taken against who have done cruelty toward the animals and properly punished. Government should take a strategic and calculated move towards this matter because they need to increase the economy of our country and at the same time taking care of animal welfare.
On the other hand, methods and technologies used to produce animal products may vary in a collective animal industry, but the goal of producing safe and nutritious food products is unified. Researchers and educators in animal science are responsible to discover and develop production systems, methodologies and technologies that produce the safest, most abundant and most wholesome food supply to feed the world for generations to come.
Animals were once raised in a more humane and sanitary manner, but in the modern age of factory farming, animal cruelty has become common with large farm complexes. In reality these animals are housed in conditions worse than sweat shops. Under these conditions the animals are more prone to contracting illnesses due to the high amounts of bacterial growth. Furthermore, animals are fed sub-standardized feed such as genetically modified corn, which is low in nutrition, and does not contain the animal’s natural and essential dietary needs.
Synthetic meat is one of the worlds most recent scientific uprises. This changes the way the world consumes our daily need for meat. If there is a way to cut down on the processing of livestock, it would save money, animals, and we would never have a fear of running out of food or catching a disease. This new way of making meat can bring a new outlook at the world’s meat. With the benefits to in vitro meat, or cultured meat, it could become more popular.
Animals should be used for research and Experimentation because if the animals get sick or show any signs of acting abnormal then the scientists know it isn’t safe for humans to use. Animal research has played a big role in nearly every medical breakthrough over the last decade. Animals have the same organ system that perform the same task, which helps determine if what is being tested is safe for humans to use. Most of the medicines animals use the same medicine as humans like antibiotics, pain killers, and many more this helps to see if the medicine cures the animals without any harmful consequences then it would be safe and useful for humans to use.
Animal and plant husbandry due to human growth has transformed into factories that pump out foodstuffs in higher quantities than imaginable centuries in the past. This is done through the use of monocultures, which produce one single crop in high quantities, and factory farming, compact animal lots that grow the animal as quickly as possible for slaughter. The shift to monoculture farming and factory farming was due to the rapid increase in population and advancements in farming technology, for example pesticides. In recent years the focus has shifted to escaping factory farming through organic farming. Organic farming produces foodstuffs without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or any other artificial factors. Organic farming focuses on natural development of organisms. Animals are used in research projects as a range of scientific techniques. They are used in human trials, computer modeling, cell cultures, and statistical techniques; however, animals are only used in research where no other techniques are available. There is some research you cannot use on human subjects or computers like reproducing a beating heart or stroke, understanding the complicity of different parts of a living system, from molecules to cells to systems like respiration and circulation. Although human subjects are used in some cases of testing new drugs or procedures, at times it is ethically unacceptable to use human subjects because of climate control testing, diet, housing, clean air environment, temperatures and genetic makeup; this is why animal subjects like rodents are used for research.
When someone goes to the store and buys a product, or is prescribed medication, they don’t have to worry if the product is safe to use nor should they. The entire human race benefits from animal research. “Without animal research, medical science would come to a total standstill”(O’Neil 210). It is not as if Scientist and researchers just sit in their labs all day and torture animals for fun. Not to mention animal use is being reduced as much as possible, “most scientist are glad to use alternative test because they are usually faster and cheaper than test on animals”(Yount 72). However, “you cannot study kidney transplantation or diarrhea or high bloodpressure on a computer screen”(O’Neil 212). Besides, “Animal research has led to vaccines against diptheria, rabies, tuberculosis, polio, measles, mumps, cholera, whooping cough, and rubella. It has meant eradication of smallpox, effective treatment for diabetes and control of infection with powerful antibiotics. The cardiac pacemaker, microsurgery to reattach severed limbs, and heart, kidney, lung, liver and other transplants are all possible because of animal research”(O’Neil 210).
Over the years, meat eating has grown dramatically in many countries. Demand for meat production increased at a fearsome speed, which led to producers using pesticides and fertilizers on their crop. In less than 30 years, when the world population reaches its carrying capacity, how will we feed everyone? Unless we start planting crops on the moon or go all out for cannibalism, we’ll need some new technology to feed the world. A large portion of humans’ diet is meat. In vitro meat or artificial meat offers a way to undo the food and environmental setbacks caused by traditional meat. Someday it will be in stores and if it’s a hit it might be the solution to how to feed people.
Factory farming is raising livestock in a small, confined area on a large scale for the purpose of supplying food for human consumption. It is argued that factory farming is extremely cruel for the animals involved and that there are better ways for food to be produced. The food produced by factory farms may be cheaper, but the chances are it is also of lower quality. The animals inside these factories are not fed on a particularly healthy diet. Factory farming may lead to the production of cheaper meat produced, but this could be bad for society when the health consequences can result fatal. Factory farming should be banned worldwide because not only is it cruel toward innocent animals, it also results in economic problems and major health concerns.
All of the animals in these situations do not deserve to be pushed to the side and ignored. With the current population already over seven billion people, there are hunger issues all around the world (“New” par. 1). How are we going to deal with food shortages in the future? With less land to work with, strains on the soils, and the lack of water, it is getting harder for the farmers of the world to support our growing population. These complications are making it harder for farmers to produce quality, affordable food. It is this technology, more precisely new ideas, small innovation and new methods through the period of time that has so far helped us feed this massive population.
