We Have Been Created for Community
“God the Trinity is, in a profound sense, community. Human beings are made for communion with God and nurturing relationship with one another. Creation healed therefore means the restoration of healthy community in multiple definitions” (Snyder/ Scandrett 206). The argument that is made in chapter 13 is that we have been created to be in community with others, and that community is not only essential for us in our everyday lives, but in our Christian walk as well. The theme of being in community and our Cor group’s project is very similar. Cor Group 4 is interested in creating networking between both current Greenville College students and Greenville College alumni. Just like Snyder, we see what networking would mean for Greenville College students and that Greenville College could potentially benefit from this type of community.
Like stated previously, Snyder talks about how important community is to the body of Christ. Snyder comes up with six dimensions of this community in which everyone lives. According to the author, the number one dimension is the community with God through Jesus and without this one the others would not exist. He says that this is the most important dimension because Jesus died for us and he was ultimately a gift to us. Snyder says that this is a vertical relationship. Then there are the other 5 dimensions of community which are horizontal relationships that go hand in hand with each other. Snyder believes that community can enrich the church, and the lives the Christians in their daily walk.
The first and most important dimension that Snyder uses is “community with God through Jesus by the Holy Spirit.” The dimension is described as the community that...

Lastly, “solidarity with the entire human family on Earth and with all creation” is that final dimension of community. This is a complex dimension of community. The author says that we are called to live in solidarity with all of creation for a few different reasons. For example, we should live in solidarity with all humans because our mission is for the entire world. This means that God calls us to go and teach people about him. If there is no solidarity with the world, then how are Christians supposed to do this? For our Cor group, it will be important to keep this in mind. Even though we planned on just reaching out to Greenville College alumni, community is a lot bigger than that.
In 2013, Penn State saw a 1.6% increase in student enrollment. This year, Penn State’s University Park gained 46,184 new incoming students. Our research looks into the incoming freshmen class and the options they are given in order to choose a roommate.
Many people believe that today’s Christians are too sheltered and oblivious to the real world around them. When asked, many outsiders compared today’s Christians to “The Titanic - a ship about to sink, but unaware of its fate” or “a hobby that diverts people’s attention” (Kinnaman 120). It is important Christians to not just stay secluded in one group (church group), but to be talking to others (outsiders) so we are aware of the problems and thing that are going on in the world around us. As Christians we are called to be disciples of Jesus by reaching out to those in need, praying for those around us, and calling people to become the church. In “Unchristian” David Kinnaman outlines three main things we as Christians should include in our lives: accepting responsibility, not being fearful, helping the desperate, being prepared, and keeping a balance.
Peterson sees spirituality as an integration into everyday activities, the church as a protection for the people, and the natural world as a method for cultivating an association with God. Tippet views spirituality as a philosophical method to discover, church as a method to compromise and communicate, and the world as an interaction location. Taylor perceives spirituality as a longing for something more, the church as a reminder of the entirety of God’s dominion, and the world as a place to praise God. Van Sloten sees spirituality as an extension of everybody and everything, the church as a community with the building as a hindrance to faith, and the world as an entire palette to commune and interact with God. While it may seem that Van Sloten is vastly different than the others, each can be shown to be beneficial to the general Christian

As I went through the research process for this paper I conducted many interviews with former classmates who are now either attending a four-year university or a local community college. The original intent was to find out their reasons for attending the institution they chose to attend. As I accumulated information I began to see a glaring trend in the relationship between the social group the individual was a member of and the college they ended up attending. This then drove me to further examine the influencing factors in these students’ social lives, in a hope of identifying the degree to which they are influenced by each other. Thus, the first part of the paper explores the community colleges of the surrounding area and the programs that they have to offer to students. Meanwhile, the second part of the paper is more of a sociological investigation into peer groups and the factors that lead kids into choosing their institution of higher education. I chose to focus on the institution that is the community college due to the fact that a large number of my former classmates are enrolled in community colleges.
For the past few decades, receiving a college education has been a stressed importance in today’s society. However it is often misunderstood that attending a 4-year school is the best and only way to go. Following this belief, many students attend these schools with out being academically, financially, or mentally prepared. Unfortunately students like this have failed to over look the more realistic options available to them, such as community college. Junior college is a resource available to anyone regardless of his or her previous academic performance. The variety of courses and the inexpensive tuition gives students flexibility to explore the many options presented to them. Though Universities hold more prestige, community colleges provide endless opportunities for students who aren’t fully prepared for a 4-year education
According to Ninian Smart, the seven dimensions of religion include practical and ritual, emotional and experiential, narrative and mythical, ethical and legal, doctrinal and philosophical, social and institutional, and material. The practical and ritual dimension involves rituals and practices that provide spiritual awareness of adherents. The emotional and experiential dimension includes the life changing experiences that either the leaders or followers of a religion go through. Narrative and mythical dimension are the stories and past records that preserve tradition and culture in the religion. Ethical and legal dimension of the religion are basically the codes of behavior that are followed and expected within the religion. The doctrinal and philosophical dimension is the belief system created by leaders for believers. Social and Institutional dimension is the organizational structure of the religion. Last but not least the material dimension includes works of people and preservation of sacred places creating symbolic representation of traditional beliefs. Using these seven dimensions, we will explore how they can be interpreted in the religion of Christianity.
Why does community college students struggle to get their diplomas? Throughout my research I was questioning what cause college students strive to get their associate degree or transfer to a university; from my personal opinion and observation, this issue can be addressed. According to the article “Uncluttering the pathway to diploma”, there are several reasons that community college students face a very long road to graduation. Are the factors of late registering classes, lack of right academic advising, attendance policies and wide range of course selection, the main reason for the struggle of community college student?
“First, there is the call to be a Christian. Second, for each individual there is a specific call—a defining purpose or mission, a reason for being. Every individual is called of God to respond through service in the world. Third, there is the call that we face each day in response to the multiple demands on our lives—our immediate duties and responsibilities” (Smith, ...
The Gospel of Luke centralizes the components of Jesus’ divinity, humanity, and ministry which contribute to the perception of Jesus portrayed by the narrator of Luke. Jesus’ divinity is demonstrated through his healings and miracles throughout the Gospel. His humanity is represented through the infancy narrative and also at the beginning of his Passion in the Garden of Gethsemane. Finally, Jesus’ public ministry serves as the most effective and important element of his life because of the essential teachings that he speaks of that give inside evidence to the formation of the modern day church.

The movie The Gospel of John (Seville, 2005) is a visual representation of the accounts of Jesus Christ life on earth. The big picture is that of God’s plan for a personal relationship with us. When God created humans, he put them into relationships, first with him and then with each other. The strength of the movie is how Jesus core values of truth, love and compassion are portrayed through his relationship with his disciples. Jesus fostered the relationships with his disciples, showing love through his teachings and interactions with societal outcast. He displayed his value system through the use of parables and commandments, and performing miracles.
Ideas and social networking has evolved to fight the constant moral erosions and sense of obligation that ceased to exist in many American communities and small towns. Community is the idea of guardianship and service outside of oneself; therefore, it is in direct opposition to greed and the self-preservation movement of me, myself, and I.
Social Media has become a very essential tool in the society; in addition, it has a huge impact on communication and learning process. Social media is defined as websites and applications used for social networking. “As of September 2013, seventy-one percent of online adult use Facebook, eighteen percent use Twitter and seventeen percent use Instagram, twenty-two percent use PInterest, and another twenty-two percent use LinkedIn. (PewReasearch, 2013). In addition, "Between February 2005 and August 2006, the use of social networking sites among young adult internet user ages eighteen and twenty-nine jumped from nine percent to forty-nine percent. The usage of social media had grown drastically.” On social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more” (Socialnetworking.procon,2012). Social media has impacted everyone in several different ways. In this present time, majority of college student use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. ...have presented to the world and for a large extent lived by it. Despite being subjected to persecutions, we as a people, maintained a level of humanity and caring that usually far exceeded the surrounding civilizations. It is the Christians job to go out in to the community and present the gospel. This being said, the moral responsibilities and values set fourth by Christians are a building block for the community and the world. Once these things are established it becomes a giant circle. The people have direct impact upon the community and that community is what bonds the people. Moral responsibility and community are in many ways one in the same, they work together to unite, and activate the citizens of faith so that they can positively impact the political process, influence public policy and define the heritage of Christian values, principals, and morals.
