I will discuss the National Career Development Guidelines and will address each section of the guidelines in terms of its importance in career counseling. As well, I will critique an activity that is used in elementary school setting against the guidelines to compare if the activity meets the standards. Section one; of the National Career Development guidelines address matters of personal social development. In this domain interpersonal skills are addressed, work-life balance is addressed, and interpersonal growth and development are assessed. In terms of specific interventions I would help clients look at their current situation. I would coin this as kind of a “self-inventory checklist” intervention. Does the client have a realistic idea of the necessary skills to get into their desired career choice? Are they looking at the compatibility of personal and family needs? Does their personality match their desired career field? I would use this guideline very much as a much of a precursor to the miracle question intervention. I would have the clients really look at themselves and their situation before they start creating goals. I would in the domain use some standardized testing to get a base of their career readiness and interests. The second domain is the Educational Achievement and Life Long Learning domain. This area of the guidelines deals with experience, education, performance, and adaptability. If this section I would focus my interventions more on assessing the client’s desired future and what is needed to achieve that end result. I would use the assessments, inventories, and goals that the client described and start tapping on their strength and exceptions to start developing a career plan. I think the b... ... middle of paper ... ...io. In terms of the National Career Development Guidelines, I think this activity touches upon all of the main domains. The activity address the personal demands and commitment of the career, what is needed, in terms of education and development to obtain that position, and it address the long terms implications of what is needed of the career and it’s impact on the community. Coupling this activity with a personal journal it will give the students to ability to apply the action steps of the domains so they can have a realistic idea of the their desired career path. For adults, I think the National Career Development Guidelines severs as a base for the counselor to provide specific actions to help the client. Since career counseling can be very overwhelming I think it is a great tool to use for new counselor to get an ideal of the career counseling process.

Views were not taken from older men, which could vary greatly from young college undergraduates. It would also be interesting to see a comparison of this study with women and their view of career counseling. Women are more “help-seeking” in general, but that does not mean that they do not carry an attitude or stigma in regards to career counseling. Having that comparison would definitely add more weight to the test results shown in this study. Works Cited Kantamneni, N., Christianson, H., Smothers, M., & Wester, S. R. (2011).
...ring the transition and will be the first person who can help he or she to link with other supporters in his or her community. And finally the strategies are ways the client use to deal with their transition. Career counsellor needs to know and understands how client deals with changes. Therefore career counsellors can help the client to come up with action steps for them to take. For example if the client cannot think of a strategy that he can use to help with his situation. As a career counsellor you can give him suggestions on what strategies he can use.

I believe group career counseling could be a valuable forum for career development. In terms of education, exploration, and sill development, I echo the books notion that group career counseling could be beneficial for a variety of topics. I feel more specifically it could benefit individuals in terms of interview preparation, resume building, job searching, and networking. As well, I think group counseling could be beneficial for individuals with limited financial resources that are need of general career support. Obviously, individuals seeking this kind if help would need to find a more support type of group rather than an educational group.
Career management plays important role in career development. Career management is done with involved taking some necessary steps to reach the career plan and commonly more focusing on the ability of the organization able to do for their employee to increase their career development (Werner & DeSimone, 2009). I see how these aspect fit into my overall goal which is to start a non-profit community agency. I have to use all three skills to be successful. When going over the fields of study that may interest me, I did not agree with the list given. The list shows a form of history as the first 5 options. Counseling was number 6 on the list. I don’t enjoy history so that is why I disagree with that list. The list of leisure was quite entertaining. This list was more accurate than the field of study list. When looking though the summary I wonder if the order the potential careers were listed made a difference in how the career was scored. If I was a career counselor for myself I would suggest resources that talk about nonprofit work and the ground work that goes into building an effective program for the community. I would explore different avenues to accomplish the work my client has set out to do; which is help children and families. I may focus on her work as a school counselor and how she can get the most out of that career. I would discuss training she would like to attend and what areas she would like to be strong in for her work in the community as well as in the school
Individuals are steadily growing and changing throughout their lives, including their interest, goals and choices. Career counseling is a process that occurs over a lifespan and it is an integral part of human development, it is a lifelong technique that is developed with each client throughout the course of their life. An important outcome of career development is to have a sense of life purpose (Zunker, 2016). Elementary children search for ways to connect with others and the world around them as they develop a sense of the future. It is never too early to introduce children and adolescents to support, discuss and offer options about careers.

Career development is a continuous process of handling proactively work and changes in life in order to move forward and reach the goals set for a better future. A five year plan is ideal to start with, as five years are enough to reach bigger goals while working for and achieving smaller goals.
Although career guidance models are constantly altering overtime, they still provide change for the better in the lives of many people. According to BSU(2010), career counseling is defined as a process that will help an individual to know and to understand themselves and the world of work in order to make career, educational, and life decisions. Thus, career counseling is delivered and available in a number of forms to individuals all across the globe. It is available online, face to face, through mentoring, through formal guidance and counseling sessions as well as through voluntary organizations (e.g. National Careers Service). (Savickas, 2008).
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
