Crime is a very universal and complex situation in our society today, humanity has grown with the concept of crime as being an act that is unacceptable in society. Today the topic of crime is seen as an ongoing topic or debate for many professions around the world, in particular one of the most looked upon topics, how can crime be processed in an acceptable way for the youth? Individuals within the ages of 12-17 legally fall under the youth criminal justice act or better known as YCJA, is it now the ongoing controversy that has erupted since the YCJA has been introduced in 2003. Without a doubt youth do make up for a large number of offences committed in Canada, and youth are more likely than adults to commit offences due to psychological, environmental and many other reasons. Essentially, it’s the point where individuals question the YCJA and doubt its ability to rehabilitate youth offenders to become acceptable members in society again. Extrajudicial measures are considered to be police warning, police referral to certain programs in the community and referral to youth justice committee. Before police constables charge a youth for a certain crime, they reconsider the alternate option for the youth when taking in account their causes for the crime. “YCJA places hope on the community, the victim, and the youth and their family, which only seen through working together to provide meaningful consequences for the criminal code” (Erin, 2004). The legislation is truly a community based approach in consideration to youth crime which hasn’t been seen under previous legislations such as the youth offender act. What if the crime committed is to acceptable for extrajudicial measure or perhaps even considering it under a youth crime, what are applicable actions the YCJA should
