The majority of people will agree that technology is an amazing part of the world, but technology has only recently gained popularity outside of its normal group. This is in relation to technology becoming more fashionable, thus attracting a wider audience. These fashionable devices are known as, “Wearable devices”. A wearable device is a piece of technology that is attached to the body in some shape or form. These devices have numerous functions including, step counting, heart rate checking, GPS tracking, and sleep tracking. The possibilities of wearable devices are unpredictable, but this, in itself, is what makes wearable devices daunting. Wearable devices are still in their infant stages, meaning there are multiple vulnerabilities in the software of these devices. Nonetheless, wearable devices are making a surge in the fashion industry, and if not careful, its popularity, could blind side our government. As wearable devices become increasingly fashionable the more vulnerable society’s private data will become, but what makes wearable devices dangerous? …show more content…
This division is known as the, “Internet of Things”, or IoT for short. As stated in an article from Morrison Forester, an international law firm, the IoT is a division of technology that appears in our everyday life which constantly takes data from our surroundings; this division includes smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices. Wearable devices, alone, are rarely acknowledged as a danger to society, because IoT products in general are still not fully understood in the court of law. Wearable devices may be included in this division, but as stated by Adam Thierer, a researcher at George Mason University, the popularity of wearable devices is growing at an alarming rate. For this reason, it is also important to understand the current forms of wearable
Furthermore, Under Armour’s goal is to expand their wearable watches and bracelets into built-in sensors that go into the clothing they create. Imagine how groundbreaking it was, when in 1286 the first eyeglasses were created. People going from seeing only blurriness to crystal clear vision was amazing, but obviously it took time to perfect the eyeglasses. Now, people wouldn’t even think of glasses as wearable technology, they are just simply glasses to us because they are a norm in our society today, but especially because it has no electronics or other technology placed into the device. This being everyone in the histories the basis of most early inventions. From these early inventions of eyeglasses, more and more entrepreneurs, inventors, engineers, and even scientists added on and on knowledge and new technology to become the wearable electronic and technologic
Ever since day one, people have been developing and creating all sorts of new methods and machines to help better everyday life in one way or another. Who can forget the invention of the ever-wondrous telephone? And we can’t forget how innovative and life-changing computers have been. However, while all machines have their positive uses, there can also be many negatives depending on how one uses said machines, wiretapping in on phone conversations, using spyware to quietly survey every keystroke and click one makes, and many other methods of unwanted snooping have arisen. As a result, laws have been made to make sure these negative uses are not taken advantage of by anyone. But because of how often technology changes, how can it be known that the laws made so long ago can still uphold proper justice? With the laws that are in place now, it’s a constant struggle to balance security with privacy. Privacy laws should be revised completely in order to create a better happy medium between security and privacy. A common misconception of most is that a happy medium of privacy and security is impossible to achieve. However, as well-said by Daniel Solove, “Protecting privacy doesn’t need to mean scuttling a security measure. Most people concerned about the privacy implications of government surveillance aren’t arguing for no[sic] surveillance and absolute privacy. They’d be fine giving up some privacy as long as appropriate controls, limitations, oversight and accountability mechanisms were in place.”(“5 Myths about Privacy”)
Technology and the Invasion of Privacy As citizens of America we are all entitled to our rights of privacy. When something threatens this guaranteed privacy we tend to take extra precautions to prohibit prolonged violation. As the advancing world of technology continues to grow and expand, so do the amount of cases involving privacy invasion. Technology drives these privacy-invading crimes; however, crime also drives technology, creating a vicious cycle.
The Pros and Cons of Tracking Devices. What is this world coming to? When most of us think of tracking devices, they think of primarily negative issues. But that has all changed now.

That’s My Tracker.”, written by Peter Maass and Megha Rajagopalan, indicates that the, “...tracking device that happens to make calls...” are exploiting our identities far more than we know (Maass and Rajagopalan,P.129). It was shared that cellphone carriers disclosed and “...responded 1.3 million times last year to law enforcement requests for call data...” without warrants (Maass and Rajagopalan,P.129). These reporters enlighten that all the “explosion of GPS technology and smartphone apps...” as well as “...frictionless sharing...”or “...surveillance has caught our attention so much so that it blinded us from the ugly truth (Maass and Rajagopalan,P.129). In actuality, modern technology such as cellphones and surveillance cameras allow the government to know of it 's citizens location, conversations, and actions—“...treasured by police departments and online advertisers...”(Maass and Rajagopalan,P.130). The mania of technology and “...these invasive services have proved irresistible to consumers…” writes Paul Ohm (Maass and Rajagopalan,P.129). He states that the overly advertised technology is like a magnet to consumers because it continues to be bought and sold regardless of the facts

People depend on technology now. Technology is affecting people’s lives in so many ways. Anyone can access a device and search what they want to know what’s going on in the world. Almost everyone is using any kind of technology such as a computer, camera, and smartphones as a form of communications. How has technology impacted people’s life? How can it help to make our world a better place to live? How does a small device such as video camera help the community? People are aware of police officer’s complaints are rising like a rocket now. It creates a huge gap between police officers and members of the public. A police body-worn camera was tested in 2012 and receive a positive feedback which lessens the complaints. The camera is a useful tool
As technology as advanced, so has our society. We are able to accomplish many tasks much easier, faster, and in effective ways. However, if looked at the harmful impact it has had on the society, one can realize that these are severe and really negative. One of the main concerns is privacy rights. Many people want that their information and personal data be kept in secrecy, however with today’s technology, privacy is almost impossible. No matter how hard one tries, information being leaked through technological advancements have become more and more common. With personal information being leaked, one does not know exactly how the information will be used, which validates the statement that privacy rights have been diminishing and should be brought to concern. Many people do not realize that their information is being used by third-parties and to consumer companies. In conclusion, technology has had a significant effect on privacy
There has been significant advancement in the field of science and technology over the past few decades. These advancements made it possible for us to accomplish the impossible work in no time. Although, these developments may offer many benefits, but it is also a disadvantage for our daily lifestyle. Furthermore, people tend to spend most of their time on the technology such as phones, computers, etc. These devices can be very handy in order to do online shopping or any other personal work; however, they do not know that doing online shopping or any other personal work can turn into a nightmare. These personal devices are not safe while we are browsing on the internet and even people are aware of it, they are not doing anything to prevent
Privacy from governments has been under assault increasing amounts in the last 100 years. Technology has revolutionized the concept, as before we had microphones, telephones, wiretaps, video cameras, someone would actually need to trespass to violate your privacy. For example, you would need to actually be in someone?s house to eavesdrop on his or her conversation without technological help[1]. Privacy protection can be looked at as how far society can intrude into a person?s personal affairs.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects accessed through the Internet. The Network of interconnected objects harvests information from the environment (sensing) and interacts with the physical world (actuation/command/control), uses existing Internet standards to provide services for information transfer, analytics, applications and communications (Jiong et al. 2012).
