The majority of people will agree that technology is an amazing part of the world, but technology has only recently gained popularity outside of its normal group. This is in relation to technology becoming more fashionable, thus attracting a wider audience. These fashionable devices are known as, “Wearable devices”. A wearable device is a piece of technology that is attached to the body in some shape or form. These devices have numerous functions including, step counting, heart rate checking, GPS tracking, and sleep tracking. The possibilities of wearable devices are unpredictable, but this, in itself, is what makes wearable devices daunting. Wearable devices are still in their infant stages, meaning there are multiple vulnerabilities in the software of these devices. Nonetheless, wearable devices are making a surge in the fashion industry, and if not careful, its popularity, could blind side our government. This division is known as the, “Internet of Things”, or IoT for short. As stated in an article from Morrison Forester, an international law firm, the IoT is a division of technology that appears in our everyday life which constantly takes data from our surroundings; this division includes smartphones, tablets, and wearable devices. Wearable devices, alone, are rarely acknowledged as a danger to society, because IoT products in general are still not fully understood in the court of law. Wearable devices may be included in this division, but as stated by Adam Thierer, a researcher at George Mason University, the popularity of wearable devices is growing at an alarming rate.
