A vision statement is a statement that articulates the ideal description of the organisation, it can also be described as a picture of what the company wants to become and what it really wants to achieve. A vision statement goes beyond just planning and strategy by challenging the status quo in pursuit of a long-term goal. It is a top management leadership tool, often ascribed to a single visionary leader in most cases the CEO of the company. A vision statement can serve as a guide to an organisation by providing direction of progress and by indicating the core purpose. Organization without vision/mission could be seen as organization without purpose. A company’s mission statement is a short sentence that details the company’s identity, core values, and its business goals and philosophies; the mission communicates the company’s purpose and values (Angelica, 2011). Where there is no vision, there is simply no direction. It is the company’s vision that helps the employees to stays on track in making every moment productive. Wells Fargo’s vision is set to satisfy its customers’ financial needs and help them to succeed financially. A vision statement should describe the company's goal of who they will be in the future, their definition of success, and actions needed to realize the future goals (Kinicki, 2016). Hendrickson's vision statement does not communicate this information as effectively as the mission statement achieved its goal.

The current mission, vision, and value statements are written very broadly to provide the five divisions within the company with an overall direction and strategy. Each division then interprets the strategy and goals to develop operational processes, procedures, tactics and plans to implement and achieve those goals.
Andy Stanley begins with the origin of a vision. Stanley (1999) contends, “Visions are born in the soul of a man or woman who is consumed with the tension between what is and what could be” (p. 17). According to Stanley, a vision is the ability to see what is possible in light of the present reality. A leader will not a have a vision for an organization if he is content with the status quo. Conversely, it is out of discontent that a vision is birth within a leader’s heart.
A vision statement describes the organization as it would appear in a future successful state. When developing a vision statement, try to answer this question: If the organization were to achieve all of its strategic goals, what would it look like 10 years from now? An effective vision statement is inspirational and aspirational.
