The argument regarding vaccinations has been a debate for numerous people. A vaccine is described as “a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.” (Oxford Dictionaries). People should be for vaccinations because not only do they protect individuals, but also entire communities against the spread of diseases and it is much cheaper to prevent diseases than to treat them. They fear that vaccinations will cause severe and permanent damage in the natural immune system. They also think that the immune system is never allowed to grow if they become too reliant on the medicine. A heath website has an article called, Vaccines: What They Are and Why Your Child Needs Them that states, “Vaccines are generally quite safe. The protection provided by vaccines far outweighs the very small risk of serious problems. Vaccines have made many serious childhood diseases rare today” (Editorial Staff). However, there are some that say the possible side effects from vaccinations are still not worth the risk. Every vaccination recommended today by the government carries a risk of complications some being very serious. While that is true, for the most part side effects are generally very minor. For an example, most will experience a sore arm or a low-grade fever and will go away within a few days. Vaccines are continually monitored for safety, and like medication, vaccines can cause side effects. Communities are privileged to be in a time when vaccines are a vital health benefit to the public, particularly for children who are disposed to certain diseases. Allergic reactions are minor and protection without a doubt overshadows the severity of the more fatal side effects. Vaccines prepare children to protect their bodies to battle any possible deadly illnesses. Scientists and doctors should be trusted, as they have continually studied in their practices to become fully qualified. The majority of these professionals are true to their work. When ones have the guidance of these health care providers, it is simpler to make decisions centered on all the vital factors in great health. Even so, boosting a child’s immunity naturally with healthy foods or plenty of sleep is not sufficient to guard them from communicable diseases. There will be fewer amounts of children that can catch an illness when a greater number of people are vaccinated. Making sure ones vaccination records are up to date and that they are receiving an annual flu shot is a preventative measure not only for their benefit, but also for the public as well. Life is a delicate thing that can be damaged or taken by something could start out seeming small or harmless.
