Time management is the control of an individuals actions for the purpose of improving efficiency. It involves setting goals and requires, establishing priorities, planning and scheduling steps needed to obtain these goals. The concept of time can be very hard to understand. It is a force that waits for no one. Individuals that do not know the importance of time end up wasting it or spend it doing nothing, especially people with mental health or substance abuse disorders.
Someone who is occupationally engaged will exhibit balanced daily activities and time use, find their daily activities meaningful, and socialize within the context of the community (Edgelow,2009, pg 8). Often individuals with psychiatric disabilities are under - occupied with a non stimulating social environment or over - stimulated from an intrusive social environment. Many have a hard time maintaining a job (Eklund, Leufstadius & Bejerholm, 2009). Lack of structure can lead to boredom and endless free time has a negative impact on well being. Work helps to influence status and identity. With no occupational engagement through meaningful activities, depression can occur. Difficulty maintaining a daily rhythm, reversing night and day, and spending much time sleeping is common. Learning proper time management is essential for better health and wellness.
Substance abuse often occurs with mental health issues. Studies show that nearly fifty percent of individuals with this co-occurring disorder will relapse soon after recovery. Residents seemed to be able to function while in a rehabilitation facility, but have difficulty managing time and prioritizing activities after discharge. This can lead to missed appointments, court dates, work and more. Difficulty p...

In my opinion this program is very beneficial. It gives people with substance abuse and mental illness the structure needed to help them get back on track. I do however think that follow up classes would be important. Individuals that are not in a rehabilitation facility may not continue with classes and revert back to their old ways . I also feel that time management is an important tool for everyone, not just people with mental illness. People cannot manage time. What they can do is manage their activity during time. Being able to follow a schedule and go to work every morning provides purpose and meaning in a persons life.
There are a variety of definitions of time management. Past researchers and authors, refer to the definition that time management involves the process of determining needs, setting goals to achieve and prioritizing and planning tasks. (Lakein, Alan., 1973). Being effective in time management is key in order to be successful in college and beyond. In college it can determine your grade on a test or paper. When you are not conscious of time and lose track of it, it can hurt you in the long run. It is important to have a schedule or calendar on tasks you need to finish. You do not want to wait until the last minute to begin doing an assignment. Research shows that students who procrastinated on assignments did poorly on the assignment than those who did not

What is Time Management? It refers to managing time effectively so that the right time is allocated to the right activity. It also means making the best use of time, as time is always limited and non-refundable. There are never enough hours in a day to do what you want.
Substance abuse complicates almost every aspect of care for the person with a mental disorder. When drugs enter the brain, they can interrupt the work and actually change how the brain performs its jobs; these changes are what lead to compulsive drug use. Drug abuse plays a major role when concerning mental health. It is very difficult for these individuals to engage in treatment. Diagnosis for a treatment is difficult because it takes time to disengage the interacting effects of substance abuse and the mental illness. It may also be difficult for substance abusers to be accommodated at home and it may not be tolerated in the community of residents of rehabilitation programs. The author states, that they end up losing their support systems and suffer frequent relapses and hospitalizations (Agnes B. Hatfield, 1993).
A High schooler’s transition to college life can be difficult since time management becomes a major priority towards success. In other words, it is up to the student to finish assignments on time. As a previous high school student and now a college student, time management has become a constant concern of mine. My time management was significantly better in high school than college because I didn’t have hard assignments so I didn’t develop strategies for good time management.

The rehabilitation center gives its residents a sense of hope. This is very important to those who suffer addiction. After listening to the three residents tell their story, they each stated how their family and friends disowned them. They felt as if no one cared about them; however, this changed once they started the rehabilitation
Time management is a term that is used to describe ones use of productive time. Time management is all relative to the perception of the task needing to be accomplished. Is the project long or short term? Is this something that needs to be done in a timeframe? Is this a personal goal or is it a demand of a superior? Defining time management and applying it to my life has created some questions of how well I succeed as an employee, student, mother and wife while creating a balance between obligation and time.

There are many different parts to time management, such as procrastination, strategy, organization, expectations and being prepared. All of them contribute equally in many ways. All of the things that we have spoken about in this paper are highly recommended. The best thing to do when it comes to time management is to set a strategy, become organized and do your best to avoid procrastination. When you manage your time make sure you include the following; studying, sleeping, eating, relaxing and other necessary things. We live in a world of numerous opportunities. Wherever we look, there is something to be done, something to be achieved, something to accomplish. In such a time of never-ending opportunities, the one thing that can old us back is time. Time is the critical resource that limits how much we can do, how many opportunities we can exploit and which ones we can delve into. If we view life as a flowchart of simultaneous processes, time is the bottle-neck which constricts the capacity of the entire system. We can only function as much as the time we have allows us to. Great ideas and drive are hollow concepts that do not matter if we do not have the time to execute them. In such a scenario where a single resource has such impact on our life, it is
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
PMBOK guide defines TM as the “Use of available time and your own productivity along with the appropriate planning and management of the project schedule” highlighting the link between Time Management and productivity and its closely knit relationship to scope and cost areas. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.
Time management is a very important thing to me, and is also important in general. I always find myself struggling to make the best of my time. If I have nothing to do, I often sit and do nothing at all. Learning to manage my time wisely can help me improve my life by helping me spend time on important things, making time to do fun things, and never wasting the time that I have.
