Two national championships, a Heisman trophy, and being one of the most celebrated and iconic college football players in history, but Tim Tebow still finds himself not on the depth chart of any team in the National Football League. Why? There are legends in the NFL that have none of these accolades so, Tim Tebow, someone who has achieved theses esteemed milestones most definitely deserves to have a spot in the league as well. All of this questions the idea of what exactly constitutes an NFL caliber quarterback and what criteria these prospects are judged upon. The University of Florida during the Tebow era was absolute mayhem. I can remember being about 11 years old going to the games and watching this superhero of a man dominate other nationally …show more content…
Tim Tebow was a phenomenon not only college but also in the pros as well and the proof is in the pudding. Tim Tebow broke copious records and accumulated many accolades during his career at Florida and short time in the NFL. For example, in 2008 Tebow (a quarterback) broke Herschel Walker’s (a running back) career rushing touchdown record something that was unprecedented at the time. (Tebow 's 50th rushing TD sets SEC mark). In addition, Tebow was the first true sophomore to ever win the most prestigious prize in college football, the Heisman trophy. As far as records he broke in the NFL, “He was the first quarterback to ever complete four passes of 30 yards or more in a single quarter of an NFL playoff game.” (Tim Tebow 's NFL Records, Etc.) This highlights Tim’s true talent because none of this could have been accomplished if he was not an outstanding player. Talent goes hand in hand with winning games and Tim Tebow is certainly proficient at winning games. This fact alone should earn him a spot on an NFL team’s …show more content…
Perhaps the greatest trait Tim Tebow possesses is his ability to inspire. I speak of this personally because I used to play high school football and I watched Tim play and speak as a means of getting inspired and motivated before a game. However, Tim Tebow’s leadership extends to situations off the field as well. He inspires people to do good in the world. He constantly gives back to communities whether they are local or across the globe. In fact, he has his own charity organization called the Tim Tebow Foundation where his goal is to “show God’s love to children around the world.” (Tim Tebow Foundation.) All of this highlights just how much of a true leader he really is on and off the field. This is a key aspect of an NFL quarterback because the quarterback is always the face off the organization so it is necessary to have someone of innate leadership and good morals to portray the organization in a positive light to the public
In the speech “What it takes to be number one” by Vince Lombardi convinces players that winning is the only option through the uses of diction, appeal and pathos/ethos, in hopes to win more. His purpose of the whole thing was to show what it takes to be number one through his perspective. This speech was a big eye opener to the players in the locker room because it was coming from a legend who played the sport and is very well- known for playing and coaching. The strong use of emotion throughout the the speech it's very
Coach of the football team, the Titans. Even during the difficult time of integration people can put aside their differences and work together as a team.
For as long as I can remember I have been a Notre Dame football fan. My father is to credit for getting me into it. He brought us to South Bend a couple of time for some games and I was just amazed by the campus and the history of the football program, so it was no surprise that I chose this particular book. Shake Down The Thunder: The Creation of Notre Dame Football was written by a man named Murray Sperber who was a sports writer interested on why fans were so into college football. Because of his interest Sperber decided to go around the country to certain college campuses to do research on this. He started with the University of Notre Dame because he was aware of the history and the passion of their football program, he was also aware of the appreciation Notre Dame had from their fans. This book deals with they history of Notre Dame football including the nation championships, the players, the coaches, and the program itself. It explains exactly what happened thought out its history, the reality behind the myths so to speak. Notre Dame was very kind to Murray Sperber in that he was given many privileges that other authors of books regarding Notre Dame football were deprived of. These privileges allowed Sperber to do research on Notre Dame from a different point of view and in his research he found documents that jumpstarted his interest to actually write this fantastic book.
Charley Johnson is a very talented NFL quarterback from NMSU that not many people know about. Having accomplished so much, I feel that people should. Bleacher Report’s Brendan Majev, ranked him the 91st greatest quarterback of all time. He was drafted 10th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. After playing with them and the Oilers, he ended his career with the Denver Broncos in 1975. Topics gone over in this essay include his early life, his college football career, his NFL career, his army career, and his education.
Brett Favre grew up idolizing a pair of Southern quarterbacks, the Saints' Archie Manning and the Cowboys' Staubach. He grew up in Kiln, Mississippi and went to high school in there. His high school, Hancock North Central, honored him this past May by re-naming the field, 'Brett Favre Field,' and unveiling a life-sized statue of the quarterback at the stadium's entrance. The school previously had retired his jersey, Number 10, in 1993. He stayed in the south to go to college where he went to Southern Miss. He became the starter at Southern Miss in his third game of his freshman season. Favre majored in special education. He led his Southern Mississippi team to 29 victories, including two bowl victories, during his four varsity seasons, 1987-90, and climaxed his collegiate career by earning a MVP award in the East-West Shrine game featuring the nation's best seniors. Favre set school records for passing yards (8,193), pass attempts (1,234), completions (656), completion percentage (53.2), touchdowns (55), and with only 35 interceptions. His production included five 300-yard passing games and five 3-TD performances, while his 7,695 regular-season passing yards ranked him among the top 30 of all-time NCAA passers. His 1.57 interception ratio in 1988 was the lowest among the 50 top-ranked passers in the nation, and his 2.9 interception rate for his four-year career also ranks as one of the best in NCAA history. Also he was the MVP of the All-American Bowl at the conclusion of his senior year. All those records and stats and that was only in college!!!
The only Division1 school that had a clue about Favre was his fathers alma mater the
From September 11, 1924 (Moritz 270), through the late 1960’s, Tom Landry accomplished a lot of things in his life, and set new trends for many years to come. Whether it be high school football star, or flying combat missions with the United States Air Force. Whether it be playing collegiate football, and really excelling, or actually moving on to a professional football career. Whether it be transforming from player to coach, and leading way for years to come and different programs; Tom Landry had experienced it all. Tom Landry was a great coach and player, whose leadership made him a hero, and a prestigious name in the football world.
...orts. He set firsts for some things and re-iterated others. He is still a very large contributing influence in the football world today. He is currently a NFL analyzer. He is very smart and knowledgeable. But he didn't get to where he is now without struggle. Power and fame almost ruined him. Yet he was able to bounce back and use his experience to learn from and shape his future and create a positive outcome. He made it positive not only for himself but for others as well. He set his goals and was determined. One thing
Joe Montana is one of the greatest football players to ever play. Joe worked hard for what he earned and deserved every bit of it. The quarterback (QB) is the undisputed on-field leader of a football team. As such, it is the QB that the team and the fans turn to with the game on the line. Some QB’s embrace the challenge and excel, others falter and fall on their faces. Joe Montana was a QB who embraced those moments and not only excelled, but excelled above all others.
Jim Brown saw a life outside of football. He wasn’t interested in just being known as the greatest athlete of all time. He was interested in making the greatest contribution in the world. From breaking through acting barriers to taking on society’s ills his aim is to give a new generation the courage to succeed. His accomplishments off the field were more impressive than those on the football field. (Jim Brown Biography)
...y would argue that no other quarterback will be able to ever match his level of success. Even though he was interested in other sports as a young boy, it is crystal clear that he was supposed to play football. At six feet five inches and 230 pounds, we can assume that he would be a formidable opponent in any sport; but looks don't count. Actions are what count, and Peyton has certainly delivered in that department.
Instructed by the NFL not to use his career to publicize his personal, religious beliefs, Tim Tebow didn't throw a fit. Instead, he became physically involved and active in his cause and community. He's been criticized time and time again, however, he has continued his efforts towards his cause. Others don't agree with him, yet he's not acting out, offending large groups, to try to get his point across. He's putting in hard work to be the change he wants to see.
During his time at the University of Florida, Tim Tebow was known as one of the greatest college football players ever. He won two National Championships and a Heisman trophy, which is the award given to the best player in college football. During this time period in college footbal,l players such as Reggie Bush and others were involved with investigations regarding illegal benefits being given to players by agents and boosters. Needless to say, Tim was never associated or involved in these investigations or crimes.
