In the Bible, there is a story about the wise and foolish builders. One builder quickly built his house with sand, while the other took his time to build his house upon a rock. As a storm passed, the house made from sand washed away, but the house upon a rock stood strong. This story teaches us that anything that is built with a good foundation, is able to stand strong no matter what may come their way. A person can’t build a structure overnight in order to get a long lasting result. Instead, it’ll take a good amount of time to get the job done. While he was being held captive, he received a public statement that had accused him of being “unwise and untimely” (King). Martin Luther King believed he didn’t do anything wrong and he had to let them know. He had to take a stand against all the injustice that was going on around him. In his letter, he clearly states how he ended up in jail and how due to the color of his skin, he was treated unfairly. In his letter he takes about the protests that were supposed to happen, and how they had to keep pushing it back due to certain elections that were going on the time.
Both of these documents fulfill the same purpose of individualism. These documents explain a further understanding to their rebellion and where action needs to take place. The founding fathers and Martin Luther King all agreed that if a change needed to be seen, it had to be forced along. After these two documents were put into place, our society began to change.
