What is man’s greatest fear? It’s not the dinosaurs, they are extinct. It’s not the sharks, grizzly bear, hyenas, crocodiles, lions or the wolves, you really have to get into their territory and even then very few succeed in becoming their prey. The fear that’s most prevalent from the beginning of all creation is the fear of man. Most people don’t admit it, nor do they realise it, but nevertheless, the fear of man prevails in the lives of most people.
Cain killed his brother Abel, and he was fearful that whoever finds him will kill him. Moses fled to Midian because he was afraid that Pharaoh was going to kill him. Therefore, it is imperative that you forgive people and let go of every offensive thoughts. At times, you may come across people that are constantly causing you trouble, your need to forgive them, but at the same time distance yourself from such people, they are influenced by the devil, to bring strongholds of fear in your life. Guard yourself against such people, because their actions and words are designed to destroy you. Instead focus on God’s word and his blessings over your life and it will brings you peace and freedom. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3: 17 NIV).
We can overcome the fear of man by replacing it with the fear of God. When we fear God, we surrender our lives to obey His words. Fear of God sets us up to live our lives in freedom and not to be afraid of anyone. We have confidence in God, who loves us completely and keeps us safe. Fear of God is reverential fear that draws us into the awe of God’s mighty power and love. There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love (1 John 4:18
