Dreams inspire us every day. Dreams have no size limit; they can be small or large. Some dreams have multiple definitions, while others do not. The American dream is a dream that has many definitions. In the articles The American Dream, By Our Own Bootsteps, and Long Live the American Dream the authors distinctly define the American dream. This unique dream has not expired. The American dream is still alive because of the immigrants, opportunities, and patriotism in the United States of America. While people continue to settle in America, the American dream will continue to survive. Since migrants bring hope for improvement in their life, they help the dream flourish. Given the possibility to reach a goal most would go for it. Martin C. Jischke agrees, “[When] coupled with desire and hard work, opportunity can fulfill all our greatest dreams” (75). This means someone who works for a dream they desire to achieve they will be able do it, if they are given a chance. Since there are equal rights in the United States, the American dream is made possible for those who really want it. Because of the opportunities America offers, residents have greater access to education and healthcare. The article, Long Live the American Dream, explains that in the United States education is a right given to all kids, unlike India where it’s only for the elite. Also, the quality of education is superior to India’s (85). Opportunities, like access to better education, help improve the quality of life and the American dream is fulfilled. In addition, the United States of America is known as the “Land of Opportunity,” and it “defines our heritage” (Cox and Alm 79). Since everyone is different, so is their opinion on the way they want to live their life. By Our Own Bootstraps states, “[We] vary greatly in capabilities, motivation, interests, and preferences. Some of us are driven to get ahead. Some of us are just plain lazy. Some of us are willing to work hard so we can afford a lifestyle rich in material goods. Some of us work just hard enough to provide a roof overhead, food, clothes, and a few amenities” (80). The statement supports that everyone thinks differently and they have their own goal to achieve in life. Meaning, not everyone wants to accomplish the American dream. The people that want to live the dream have national spirit. They believe their country can help them live a better live. These hopeful people help the American dream flourish. The dream has not died because the patriotism it still alive. Dalmia agrees, “The American spirit, ultimately, is the biggest reason to believe that the American dream is and will stay alive” (86). The "American dream" is different for every person. To some it means financial success, to others it means freedom of expression, while others dream to practice their religion without fear. The "American dream" is a complex concept providing immigrants with the hope of better life. The U.S. government provides the environment and resources for everyone to pursue their dreams. Each year millions of people around the world apply for the Diversity Visa lottery program provided by the U.S. government, however only a few thousand people are lucky enough to come here. America is the place where people are judged by their achievements instead of having references or connections. Even though the American economy is in recession and the achieving of the American Dream is harder, many immigrants still achieve religious, political, financial, and sports dreams here in the U.S.

A person who “manages” to achieve his or her version of the American Dream is often said to be “living the dream”. However this concept has been subjected to great criticism because some people that the social structure of the U.S. prevents such an idealistic goal for everyone. May critics often allude to various examples of inequality rooted in class, race, ethnicity, and religion, which suggests that the American Dream is not attainable to everyone. The principles of the American Dream are too idealistic. Everyone has dreams and goals, but the American Dream is one that is infinite and endless. It is very difficult to live the dream when so much of it is obscured by the government.
Mostly anything you want to achieve requires time and perseverance it doesn 't just come to you easily. In America we all have dreams we want to achieve, a set of goals for the future. The American Dream is known to be a hope for a better, richer, happier life for all citizens of every class. For almost all Americans, this entails earning a college degree, gaining a good job, buying a house, and starting a family. Although this seems wonderful, a large amount of the American population believes that the Dream has changed immensely because of increased prices in today’s society, the price of tuition being highly unaffordable, as well as the unemployment rate skyrocketing and weaker job growth. While some American citizens believe it has changed, others believe that the American Dream has not changed, but point out it is harder to obtain.
The American Dream. This concept is well known as the picture perfect family, nice house and the white picket fence. As well as succeeding and excelling in life and making the future generations lives better than the current one. This concept has contributed much of the immigration from as early as 1931 to present day. However, many immigrants immigrate to the United States in order to escape oppression as well as uprising and turmoil which may reside in their home country. Though society often places people none the less immigrants into categories from social class, heritage, and prejudice they share a common thread of hope as well as facing obstacles in their journeys and once they arrive to the states. An example of this common thread of escaping their homeland in order to pursue new experiences and hopeful new life yet experiencing different hardships are shown when looking at both the Mexicans and the Irish.

The question I constantly ask myself is who do the American Dream applies to? What I learn is that the American dream only applies to those who are rich and it doesn’t apply to everyone. I was born in America and I am currently attending college and I still don’t feel like I have chance of actually experiencing the true definition of the American dream. In conclusion the American Dream only applies to certain people. Those certain people are the wealthy rich families. The American Dream is exactly what it seems to be: the chance for people to have hope of achieving something great. However, it demands pleasure of every victory one has earned, and the desire is always demanding one to work slightly harder and gain slightly more than someone else. Some may say The American Dream is no longer attainable because in many ways it is getting harder to find good paying jobs and harder to get noticed for skills one possesses. Throughout American history, there have been a number of people who have exemplified and supported Adam’s idea of the American Dream (Meacham np). One of these was Benjamin Franklin with his “way to wealth.” Another was Franklin D. Roosevelt, the great symbol of hope to the American people during rough years. Calling the nation toward a more positive mindset, Roosevelt declared, “The great fact to remember is that the trend of civilization itself is forever upward, that a line drawn through the middle of the peaks and the valleys of the centuries always has an upward trend.” (Meacham np) Roosevelt was right, though people fail, it doesn’t mean their chances of succeeding are over. They can still achieve the American Dream if they stay positive about it and really work toward it.
The American Dream was and always will be something that makes America great. It allows those with aspirations to make them come true. In America alone needs is a dream and the motivation to carry out that dream. Ambition is the driving force behind the American Dream. It allows any one that has an aspiration, a desire, a yearning, to carry out the individual dream. It knows no bounds of race, creed, gender or religion. It stands for something great, something that every one can strive towards. A dream can be a desire for something great. In America, the American Dream allows dreams to become realities. According to Webster's New World Dictionary, the American Dream is defined as "An American social ideal that' stresses egalitarianism and especially material prosperity". To live this dream is to succeed. It allows anyone, rich or poor to have the opportunity to succeed. It is the ability to come from nothing and become so me thing. To succeed at any thing you do, you must have patience and persistence. It requires hard work, persistence and a desire for something better. To have these qualities and the desire and ambition to carry the moutis part of the American Dream.
