Technology runs the modern world. For decades, we have utilized technology to help make lives easier. It allows us to engage with others instantly, provides us with any information we desire to know, and provides us aid in multiple career fields. Newer forms of technology is continuously being created as inventors find newer ways to make solving tasks easier or faster. One can chronicle all of the advancements that occur in technology for specific fields and purposes. For instance, technologies used for education have changed over the past several decades. One of the earlier methods used in teaching was teachers writing their lessons on chalkboards. Several years later, teachers would use dry erase boards and projectors to display their lessons.…show more content…
Although I was born in the United States, my parents are immigrants from Panama in Central America. Since my dad enlisted in the army, he and my mom moved to the United States, which meant leaving all of their relatives behind. With the construction of airplanes, seeing my family in Panama is made easier than having to drive numerous days to visit them. Likewise, the invention of communication softwares, such as Skype, have made communicating with my family when traveling is not an option. Even computers and television have greatly influenced my life. When I was in kindergarten, my school would broadcast the morning announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance over television. Shortly after that, my parents bought two computers for our house. It had a large screen and would take several minutes to fully turn on. Although I mostly played outside as a child, during the times when I was on the computer I would play educational games on CDs, such as Jumpstart. It would have games for different academic subjects based on your age group. As I got older, I began to utilize computers more for learning how to research topics to complete school projects. During late elementary school, my school ran a reading program where students would get points for reading. Students would have to read books and take online quizzes about them. Although there are some downfalls to using technology in academic settings, there are many advantages to using technology. One of the disadvantages of technology being widely used is that we begin to rely too heavily on using technology. Growing up in the early 2000s, kids mostly cared about having fun outside and making friends. Many kids today care for using their electronics. They become detached to the rest of society and become lost within their own virtual worlds. For instance, although my 10 year old brother will go outside and play basketball on occasion, he would prefer to stay inside and play video games. Additionally, we begin to lose appreciation for objects, such as books. There are some schools who no longer use textbooks but rather make their students use online books on their laptops. Likewise, many students and families own tablets so students can read books on their devices rather than going to the library. We lose appreciation of books. Plus, if there were to ever be a nationwide power outage, students would be unable to use most of their devices. On the other hand, technology would help significantly in a child’s
