Better quality education, improved health, stronger values and greater technology. Who wouldn’t be lucky to live in a world like this? Compared to those of our parents’ generations, we have grown up in an immensely better society. We millennials as a whole have a greater access to education and a variety of career paths from which to choose because of this. Our changing attitudes and values are instrumental in the formation of a more tolerant society. Maybe the most distinct advantage to us is the tremendous advancements in technologies and how we implement them in our daily lives. Despite all of this, there will be those from our generation that do feel worse off. So before I expand on why we are lucky, let me explain why we shouldn 't feel …show more content…
Millennials stay in contact with each other through the use of text, instant messaging and social networking more due to the fact that we can communicate 24/7 with those who can 't always be with us face to face. Technology has blossomed into something more than just information on the internet: we now use it for entertainment, medical purposes, communication and retail sourcing. With our busy lives, technology allows us to save time through online shopping. In 2013, 86% of 16-24 year-olds used online shopping as a convenient alternative to trudging around the high street. People can thank these advancements in technology for helping us live longer, healthier lives with medical technology improving every single day such as robotic checkups and wearable health monitors that can be linked wirelessly to a smartphone, something previous generations would only imagine. To combine health and technology, 54% of Millennials will buy a body-analysing device to track their weight, body fat, blood pressure, etc. Millennials are more willing to spend more money on fitness equipment to maintain our health than any other previous generations which shows just how much our opinions on health has advanced. We no longer want unhealthy fad diets and strict routine gym workouts, we want to plan ahead for our healthy meals and fun, social exercises. So technology can’t be considered as a disadvantage to us in any way, shape or

(summary) In the article “Has the Smartphone Destroyed a Generation?”, Jean M. Twenge discusses the effects smartphones have in younger generations. Twenge is a psychologist who has been researching differences in generations for 25 years. In accordance to Twenge, smartphones have significantly increased the rates in teen depression and suicide. Twenge describes the generation iGen (born between 1995 and 2012) as being at the verge of the worst mental-health crisis in decades. Twenge’s research shows statistics of many factors that are affected by social media, smartphones, and the internet.
These entire factors can eventually open up all the possibilities for more and more emerging adults to experience life and explore their independence, as countries become wealthier chances are that more young people can go to school and move in to a dorm and have a semi independent lifestyle until they reach adulthood. This can benefit our future generations to come and potentially increase the life expectancy and become achievable adults that live a longer and prosperous life. This will be a new evolution for the young people now and the young people to come, this means more educated people, which call change the way our jobs, economy, and development of our countries can be. More young people will explore their horizons and develop to be the best they can be instead of being forced to work a full time low paying job and hit a dead end. Perhaps one day the new
Our modern day society depends on technology for everything, can anyone imagine a life without their phone or computer? Probably not, social media and other popular applications have become so ingrained into our daily lives. Not only can we connect with people anytime throughout the day but we also have so many useful applications that help us on a daily basis. Thinking back to when I was eight years old, I couldn 't wait for sixth grade because my parents had promised to get me a cell phone, I remember counting down the days till the summer of fifth grade was over because I already knew which cell phone I wanted. Once I got it I couldn’t stop showing my mom all of the cool things it could do. Which looking back at it today, it really couldn
America’s youth is struggling to find success because they are suffering from an economy that was severely damaged by the previous generation. In many instances older generations insist that the reason young people are struggling to survive and succeed in today's economy is because millennials and those belonging to Generation Z are lazy and do not want to work hard in order to achieve their dream, or it is that those youths feel as if they are entitled to success so they complain when they do not have opportunities and jobs handed to them. In reality, the lack of success for the youngest two generations does not have to do with an attitude problem, but rather with an economy that is struggling to survive due to the actions of previous generations. According to Hardin and lifeboats ethics, there is a large divide between the rich and the poor and there is not a solution to decreasing that divide that would result in the survival
Nearly 3.7 million American babies born in 1982 were the first members of the new Generation Y, or more affectionately known as millenials (Thompson, par. 1). Many things play into whether a generation is considered to be faring ‘better’ than another one; job opportunities, the state of the environment, whether the U.S. is at peace or at war, income vs. living expenses, the general happiness of the people, and the list goes on. Millenials are part of a special generation because for decades, “The American Dream” has included the belief that the future generation will fare better than the present one; however, millenials are not projected to fare better than the present generation X for many reasons.
There are a few components that go along with technology. There are a lot of pros to technology, but what else is it good for? Many people think that technology is bad, but at this time of life, the good always outweighs the bad.
Computers are a magnificent feat of technology. They have grown from simple calculators to machines with many functions and abilities. Computers have become so common that almost every home has at least one computer, and schools find them a good source for information and education for their students (Hafner, Katie, unknown). Computers have created new careers and eliminated others and have left a huge impact on our society. The invention of the computer has greatly affected the arts, the business world, and society and history in many different areas, but to understand how great these changes are, it is necessary to take a look at the origins of the computer.
As we live our everyday lives we are stuck to our phones, laptops, iPads, etc. The
Technology is unavoidable in our modern lifestyle. You wake up, you use technology; you use technology while cooking, while eating, while driving. While you’re lying in bed before you fall asleep, you use technology, technology wakes you up in the morning. Is all the technology around you good for you, or is it harmful to your health? Was our society healthier or safer before all the advancements? So many questions and concerns about all of the technology we crave, but there are very few people who know the answers. Technology affects all parts of human life. It can create jobs, motivate people to get active, and assist people in learning, but this does not balance out that there are dangers that follow the use of technology.
“One of the most feared expressions in modern times is 'The computer is down'” Norman Ralph Augustine. Computers and smartphones are significant computing devices for working, socializing, and browsing the internet. Thus, when the turing machine is broken or cannot work properly, it means you cannot do you all of your tasks or even communicate with others. Moreover, overusing these technologies lead to various problems such as addiction problems, and health problems. Negative impacts of technology on people can be classified into four categories, which are health care, socialization, privacy, and developmental problems in children.
Technology – as defined by the US National Academy of Science (cited in Jones 1996, p.17) –
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Imagine the sound of technology growing louder and louder. What if technology was used twenty-four hours, seven days a week? Will it overwhelm human beings? As the world advances into its new day and age, inventions such as cell phones, computers, and gaming systems, over power what used to be a “simple society”. Items such as walkmans, record players, and 8 tracks used to be the focal products of technology. Living in the 21st century, technology has been developing to a more influential level. It has been growing faster and faster, quicker than everyone even realizes it. The question is: do the social skills of children and teenagers decrease due to the interference of new technology in America? The innovative technology in America decreases the ability and potential of social skills, but in certain cases, increases learning levels between some children and teens.
Using computer, internet, cellphone, television, etc. make peoples’ lives easier and more comfortable. Young people are the most users of it. They cannot think of a single day without using a technical device. Tara Parker-Pope is an author of books on health topics and a columnist for the New York Times. In her article, she expressed that, “The International Center for Media and the Public Agenda at the University of Maryland asked 200 students to refrain from using electronic media for a day.
There are many ways in which technology affects the society. Technology, in essence, has a role of making life simpler. However, other researchers have argued that technology has oversimplified life to the extent that it has predisposed members of society to non-communicable diseases such as obesity. This work will examine the relationship between technology and society by focusing on both positive and negative relationships.
