Fukui, Starnino, Nelson-Becker (2010) suggested other factors can impact organizational performance, and in employee cases where mental illness occurs, the study reveals it is important to focus on two spiritual well-being aspects, including self-perceptions and making sense life, and self-efficacy in obtaining life goals. Exploring spiritual views, values, and beliefs can start the recovery process to improving the quality of life. Development and reinforcement of life’s purpose and setting goals, establishes a sense of control over something that is important to the employee, increasing spiritual well-being (Fukui et al., 2010). The study has proven to be effective and valid. Someone with mental health issues should be handled by health care professionals and as their health improves, he or she should be integrated into the team and system. Leadership must ensure health care professionals are part of the recovery process and work parallel with leadership, exploring spiritual values, views, and beliefs, and integrating these into the employee’s life and increase well-being (Fukui et al., 2010). Spirituality has had a significant impact on the well-being of employees’ with mental health issues.
Theme/Sub-Topic 3: Controversial Views
Spiritual leadership has not been widely accepted by leaders because of the religious implications, according to Yusof and Tahir (2011). Additionally, theorists and practitioners do not agree on one definition, adding to many versions of the term spirituality (Fukui et al., 2010). Furthermore, terms such as workplace spirituality, spirituality, spiritual leadership, and organizational spirituality are used interchangeably, creating inconsistency and confusion. Others claim workplace spirituali...

A true spiritual leader follows the example of God. In the allegory, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Elizabeth Proctor and Reverend Parris’ actions prove that ordination does not necessarily mean sound spiritual leadership. Miller uses the backdrop of the 1692 witch hunts to criticize the flawed society of Puritanism. The play is also a critique of McCarthyism in the United States of America which occurred in the 1950’s. Goody Proctor, a simple farmer’s wife, is the moral centre for John and becomes the voice of his salvation. Elizabeth’s honesty is compromised when she gives it up in an attempt to save her husband. Elizabeth’s
A difficulty that has occurred commonly is that a definition of spirituality cannot be agreed on. In a broad explanation of both religion as well as spirituality, religion constitutes the organization of faith, implementing prayer, ministry and theology. Spirituality could be viewed as a more individualized experience with a higher being, creator or idea (Walker et al., 2004, p. 70). These expressions allow a vision of client diversity that is found in all counseling classifications. While defining religion and spirituality properly seems trivial, when training counselors to properly apply the use of such variables in their therapies, a concrete explanation is imperative.
Leadership within Christian community should be with distinct qualities and traits of an effective Christian leader. The author defined leadership by not focusing on profit when Christ said, “Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” The author explored the leadership qualities and practices that are not only distinct within the community of Christian leadership but also applicable in any arena of leadership. Significance comes from working with associates and friends. Similarly, the joy of success comes from the journey toward it than its accomplishment. Grace-full leader is a responsive leader who allows an organization to discontinue practices that are no longer effective and replace them with other good ideas and effective methods.
The importance of ethical leadership is emphasised in theories of ethical leadership such as transformation theories which seek to raise the consciousness of followers by appealing to ideals and moral values rather than to materialistic desires or negative emotions such as fear and jealousy; Servant leadership theory which explains why the primary concern of the leaders should be to nurture, develop, and protect followers; Spiritual leadership theory which explains how leaders can enhance the spiritual meaning in the work experienced by followers; Authentic leadership theory which describes an ideal leader whose behavior is guided by strong positive values, (Yukl, 2010). In addition, all these theories emphasise the importance of leadership
While spirituality is often defined today as the synonym for religion, there are many dissonant voices in Christianity who would disagree with this meaning. Peterson is one of them, arguing that spirituality is not religion or exclusive, but that spirituality is deeply integrated in the
The way person leads a group of people or an organization is key to a successful business or outreach. There are many styles and techniques for a leader to implement. Christian leaders are no exception; some might say being a leader in a church organization can be a more scrutinizing position than other leaders. Since, a church leader has expectations on how they should act or conduct themselves because of the Christian faith. This paper will discuss an interview with a person in leadership brother Larry and will give an account of his leadership approach. Furthermore, what strengths and weaknesses are prevalent according to authors Kouzes and Posner and the model they have in their book, Christian Reflections on The Leadership Challenge.
The relationship between transformational leadership and job satisfaction is one of the most critical success factors in any organization and has become one of the largest topics studied among psychology, management and organizational behavior researchers (Tsai, 2011). Job satisfaction refers to how satisfied an individual is with his or her job within their organization. There are many factors that determine the job satisfaction, and one of the factors is the type of leadership style. According to the first article that was completed, an effective leadership style of leaders in an organization is having the capability to provide motivational incentive and direction to their followers to achieve an organizational mission or goal (Walumbwa,

Leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the organization is running effectively. In addition, the decisions that are made should be in the best interest of the organization, therefore, the leader should ensure that the decisions are moving the organization closer to its vision. According to Manning and Curtis (2015), there are 10 qualities that influence the leadership process: Vision, Ability, Enthusiasm, Stability, Concern for others, Self-confidence, Persistence, Vitality, Charisma, and Integrity. Leaders have to consider these 10 qualities when making effective decisions about the organization. Conversely, when these qualities do not influence the decision-making process for leaders, the organizational leader is not possessing
“First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination” (Napoleon Hill). The culture of the organization founded itself on teamwork and the ability to help others out of adverse situations and mindsets. To be able to understand the culture of our work environment, mental health has to break down and simplified. Mental health is the well-being that often is characterized as the condition of prosperity, which is when an individual understands his or her capacities. We teach them how to adapt to the typical burdens of life and show them proper ways they can work profitably and productively with the ability to make

Every person is on a journey of spiritual formation (Mulholland, 1993). What 's frightening is how this process can happen with or without our intention. Taking this a level deeper, every human is formed with an innate desire to worship (Warren, 2002). Putting this all in perspective; whether a person intends to or not, they are worshipping someone or something, and in so doing are being formed into the likeness of this person or thing. Knowing this, it is easy to see the importance of spiritual formation on the psychological health of a person. For example: if someone is being formed into the likeness of a demanding spouse, they will quite possibly grow into someone defined by bitterness or feelings of insufficiency. Therefore, it is vital
There is a relationship between spiritual gifts, talents, and training for leadership. It is imperative to know what each one means and that will give one a better understanding of how the 3 relate to each other. Leadership is very demanding and many leaders have not been properly trained for the position they occupy. Because Christians have been put into a position without training, many people lead others without having any hands-on knowledge. The best type of leadership is servant leadership.
Leadership is an awesome responsibility, and regardless of where leadership occurs, followers want leadership that is trustworthy, inspiring, consequential, and most importantly, effective. Thus, effective leadership is often weighed in theory and common indicators such as the impact on a team or process, follower attitudes and perceptions, and even career longevity (Yukl, 2010). Furthermore, leadership effectiveness may also be determined by the leader’s title, position, skills, traits, and moral behaviors (Carolina College of Biblical Studies [CCBS], n.d.). Often overlooked in all these things are God’s purpose for leadership, and the call for the leader to remain obedient to God while leading (CCBS, n.d.). Since mankind is sinful by
