Sociology is the scientific study of human groups and their social behaviour, through analysing social relationships we can see how that effects and potentially changes peoples mannerisms and behaviours and this is how societies change and advance. This essay will highlight the value of sociology within the world of sport and consider how social class has developed and adapted throughout history and what has factored into that change. This shall be shown through analysing work from various authors such as Jay Coakley, Karl Marx and De Corbertin all who have enabled us to gain a better understanding of the way in which sport is perceived.

Viewers not only have to be paying a for a Sky TV package per month but the sports channels come at a premium price. By sky sponsoring big sports events it enables them to not only gives them the advertisement through being on individuals kits or on billboards for actual events it enables them to offer exclusive sporting action that people do not want to miss. The company showing a sporting event whether its Sky, BT or ESPN aren’t the only company who benefit through advertising when a sports event is aired. The sponsors on team’s shirts is clearly visible and then you associate the huge sporting team with the company and for some people this could have influence on why we buy a product. As well advertising boards around a pitch or boxing ring allow smaller companies to advertise on a larger scale without having to be a sponsor of the sport event of have a full-length advert. This is boosts the economy and allows promotion of different more diverse companies. This is how sport has been able to come the multi-million-pound industry it is today due to the constant money flow from fans and investors. A great deal of people argue with the wages and bonus’s that footballers get paid but it could actually be fair. A sports stars job in some way is more complex, they have to come out in front of fans week in week out to showcase their talent and they don’t get to hide behind a character.
