The Importance Of Self Assessment

The Unit 2 self-assessment test really opened my eyes. It was a test designed to evaluate strengths and weaknesses in a particular set of communication and life skills. It helped me to identify some of my weaknesses, as well as educated me in some of the skill areas where I am stronger. Some of the weaknesses that were brought to my attention were energy level, time management,writing, prioritizing, and the ability to conduct research. Some of the things my weaknesses have in common are the fact that they coincide with my busy life style. Other weaknesses include conducting research and writing essays. My concern with these weaknesses is that the entire Bethel program is a writing based program in which I must conduct scholarly research that will complement the topic I am writing about (Bethel University,2014). As we know, “academic writing is not speculative” (Bethel University, 2014, p.6). The strengths that were brought to my attention through this self-assessment were critical thinking and reasoning, determination, responsibility, ability to get along with others, and seeking support from others. In addition, by working through some of these weaknesses, they will make me a stronger writer (Bethel University,2014). Other areas I would like to capitalize some of my strengths on are determination and responsibility. Managing my family, my career, and my education can be challenging at times, however this type of dedication will put me in front of my peers professionally and personally (Bethel University,2014).
