Having a plan is essential, whether it 's at a school, within the boardroom or during a crisis, there is one commonality a plan. In fact, the security plan is similar to making out a plan book, which consists of a carefully considered series of actions to be implemented. It is always worthwhile to be prepared to take whatever actions are needed and whatever resources you need to address security risks. Even if a security breach does not occur, if people have information ready it can help you justify needed measures and to keep your place of business as safe as possible. If an incident does happen, you probably won 't have time to do all the homework required for a good security plan. But if you have a security plan already in place then …show more content…
The most important component for plan development is the set of controls or measures used to prevent a security incident. A facility typically appears more secure during the day than in the evening because not many criminals are willing to commit a crime during broad daylight. Any determined aggressor will not want to be observed during the middle of the day; therefore, criminal activity attempts tend to occur during evening hours as well as late night hours. Operational security represents the most common type of security and, when properly implemented, is often the most effective. A well-trained and properly documented security staff that is loyal to the goals and objectives of an organization does not come cheap. Once the security measures have been identified using the best approach, the next step is to put them together in a security plan book, or master plan, which shows accurate budgeting for the controls and measures being proposed. Embracing the need for a well thought-out security plan book can make the difference in obtaining resources once a security event occurs. Rather than emailing the staff about the organizations risk people should be prepared so if a question about security needs comes from management, your response will be that you understand the …show more content…
(http://www.gao.gov).” In a school environment I would recommend the use of visible security as I feel they have a far more effective deterrent value. With any risk assessment there must be a solid solution to the possible hazards. School security is ever changing and needs to be kept under constant review, with vulnerable areas identified and remedial actions implemented to address them. People want to take their children to school and feel safe with leaving them there. Comparing a risk assessment for a school to a risk assessment at a grocery store is like comparing apples to oranges. Once the risks are identified, your organization can and should be benchmarked against peer
There are plenty of ways we can prevent school shootings and one of them is by adding more school security officers. If there is more security, then it would be easier for them to give a warning when there could be a pote...
Real-world events is probably the more significant of the group; using a risk management program allows decision makers access to critical information related to potential outcomes of an event/incident. The decision makers use the information to exam the most appropriate and lower risk approach to an event/incident. The NIPP risk management program used the risk management for three specific threats, physical, cyber, and human to protect CIKRs (U.S. DHS 2009, p.33). When risk management is implemented correctly and all areas assessed thoroughly, it can produce the best course of action to protect homeland security infrastructure over a larger area through the cooperation of and between the different NIPP established sectors. Exercise planning and risk management work well together exercises also provide feedback for risk management for real-word events. Exercising the possibilities of an incident/event provide a realistic basis for establishing certain understanding of an incident without the high risk associated with a real-world
In this essay I will be discussing the importance of safeguarding within mental health nursing and child nursing, I have chosen to talk about this topic because student and registered nurses include this in their training and continue to be influenced by the importance of safeguarding in everyday practice. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) states that 50,500 children in the UK are known to be at risk of abuse. As nurses during practice and placement we need to ensure that we follow correct procedures that ensure that barriers are not crossed which will cause safeguarding issues. For Mental Health Nurses (RMN) this could include; ensuring that proper consent is given, ensuring that vulnerable adults in our care are safe and their welfare is
In light of recent acts of violence in the nation’s schools, school safety and security have become a hot topic. However, the issue of school safety goes beyond student violence. It includes property damage, theft, and anything else that concerns the overall well being of schools. While it is important to create a safe environment in schools it is also necessary to make sure students feel comfortable in this atmosphere. The security can not be so overbearing that it becomes a negative tactic that gets in the way of the students main objective, learning. Barely noticeable cameras, ID cards, and security guards without uniforms can help generate this safe, but comfortable learning environment. On the other hand metal detectors and mini police forces may be a little too reminiscent of George Orwell’s novel, 1984, or even modern prisons. School security should not be overbearing or obtrusive where it gets in the way of a comfortable environment that is conducive to learning in the nation’s schools.
...certain risks and use that knowledge to make solid comprehensive management decisions. These decisions are designed to create a long-term plan that provides solid strategies for preventing and mitigating risk. The risk management also provides Department of homeland security and its partner’s resources and training to educate and prepare members on federal, state, local, tribal and territorial levels to prepare for disaster. Unfortunately, it impossible for our government to completely eliminate risk, whether it is terrorism or man-made or natural disasters, however, with effective risk management, we can rest assure that the risk can be brought down acceptable level where the department of homeland security and their partners are adequately prepared and have the capabilities to handle that risk and lower the potential harm that it could cause the nation long term.
When developing a plan for a specific emergency it important to utilize all accessible resources, ensuring to not make the same mistakes that have occurred during past events. In Aurora, the local police department already established a set plan to respond to active shooters however it was focus more

There are three factors that affect contingency plans. The first of these key components is the environmental factor. The next factor is the organizational factor. The environment is bound to change and have an impact on how an organization is run. For example, when FedEx Express went through the September 11, 2001 situation, they boosted security throughout the hub and raised shipping prices to offset the security budget. The same can be said when the president created the new cabinet of Homeland Security to fight the 9/11 attacks. The Unit...
In order to have a safe school, you need to know the terms to understand the importance. Safety means the condition of being protected from or unlikely to cause danger, risk, or injury. Security is the state of being free from danger or threat. These two terms are synonyms along with well-being, protection, and freedom from danger. "Safety First" is "Safety Always." says Charles M. Hayes. This shows how safety needs to be present all of the time, because you never know when an incident can happen. School Saf...
The issue of school safety has become a controversial topic in the United States, due to tragic acts of violence occurring on a daily basis. American citizens should never have to cope with the negative impact of school violence, no matter how often they hear about the tragedies (Jones, "Parents" 1). In the past, schools were viewed as a safe place for children to get an education. Recently, the concern over violence in schools has taken a toll on many parents, school administrators, and legislatures (Eckland 1). Studies have shown that there are over 3 million acts of violence in American public schools each year. Not all occurrences are serious and deadly, but they occur on a daily basis throughout our country (Jones, “School” 6). This has caused many parents to worry about the well-being of their children while they are in class. This has also led to an increase in questions and concerns by parents and guardians. Many people have asked, “What are you doing about safety and security on my child’s campus” (Schimke 2). School violence is the cause of elevated worry and fear for their children, and school districts should enforce better security.
Children should be ensured of a safe learning environment as school is the place where they spend most of their day. Well disciplined schools emphasize on the importance of learning and intolerance of conditions which ...
Physical security cannot be wholly successful without the human factor element and the active support of these user groups. For example, when the aim is to protect a critical facility from attack or to provide access control for an office building it is necessary to engage people on the proper use of any security systems that are in place, for instance security alarms. If the alarm goes off and employees have no idea what it signifies
These days, school safety is one of the most important parts of running a good school. So how can we make our school, safer and a better school overall?
The most recent acts of violence by children have prompted us as a nation to look at the causes and possible solutions to this crisis in our schools. In fact, according to Public Agenda, a national organization that conducts public opinion research on educational issues, school safety was identified as the most important issue affecting schools by those surveyed (Johnson & Immerwahr, 1994/1995).
Do teachers change when an administrator evaluates them? Do parents worry too much about their kids being in school? Have many students around the world been falsely accused of something they didn’t do? All of these problems can be eliminated with one little piece of technology hanging from the ceiling. That little piece of technology is a surveillance camera which can be placed almost anywhere. Many schools are determining whether or not to install security cameras in classrooms. Those who have, have seen dramatic changes in teachers, students, and even parents. Cameras have many helpful factors. For instance, cameras can be used to train future teachers, broadcast to students at home, and deal with bullying. Having cameras in a classroom environment are beneficial for students, teachers, parents, and schools because they hold teachers accountable, help students improve their behavior, and evaluate teacher and student interactions.
