Kong Qiu once said "before you embark on a journey of revenge dig two graves". This represents how seeking revenge can cause detrimental damage to one's relationships. In the novel "other side of the bridge" by Mary Lawson the author demonstrates that betrayal motivates one to seek their Revenge; which in turn causes irreparable damage to one's relationships. Jake, Arthur and Ian encounters with Revenge help build up their character and furthermore obliterate their connections. Jake's cynical plot for Revenge leads him to destroy his relationships and further develop his character. As Jake and Arthur cross the bridge Jake alienates Arthur and further in lights Arthur's guilelessness. Arthur feels aggravated and disregards Jake's cry for help. This prompts Jake to injure his leg which haunts Arthur for the rest of his life. “‘Good’, Arthur said a word that would haunt him for the rest of his life” (Lawson,90). After Arthur's consistent disappointment in school and despondency at home he had enough and needed Jake to pay for all his mishap. This obliterated any limits Jake and Arthur had and furthermore opened the Pandora's box of issues between the siblings. After Ian educated Arthur of what he saw Jake do, Arthur at long last discharge all the outrage that had developed throughout the years. "Arthur reached out and took hold of the front of Jake's shirt with both hands and lifted into the air, right up into the air, and then slammed him against the car" (Lawson,342). Arthur at last renders his retribution by utilizing the one preferred standpoint over his sibling; his brawn. This situation shows Arthur's character as he releases all his emotions and at last ends his relationship with his brother.
