My Responsibility to America
The definition of responsibility has changed drastically over the years. Responsibility, as it is described in the dictionary is “a moral obligation to behave correctly towards someone or something. I believe that responsibility is an obligation that someone is entitled to do, or encouraged to do, out of respect of others or something notable. When our grandparents were our age they took pride in their citizenship and appreciated everything that this country did for them. Today we have come to have no sense of appreciation for others and we are seriously lacking in respect for our country and those who run it and protect it.
In recent years I have noticed an extreme lack of gratitude in our generation. Not only
As Americans we have somehow come to a point where we disrespect our anthem, leaders, and even the very people who risk their lives to ensure that we have our freedoms today. In the issue concerning our anthem, there seems to be trend where sport players are kneeling when the national anthem is being played before a game starts. They say that it is in protest of the police brutality and racial injustice in America. I do believe that this is a good thing to stand up for but there are more respectful ways to go about it. Do these athletes not realize that it is disrespectful to their country to kneel while their national anthem is being played? I see our anthem as a representation of what this country stands for and I am proud to stand up and call that anthem mine. In the news recently I saw a story that caught my eye; it was about the coach of U.S.A hockey team, John Tortella. He made a statement that if he saw any of his players kneeling or sitting during the national anthem then they would be seated on the bench for the rest of the preceding
There will always be people who will try to take away our rights. Our founding fathers came here to give themselves and their families a better life and give them rights that they never had in their original country. America is a nation based on freedom and equality, and I fully intend on expressing those rights that I have been so graciously blessed with. There are not many nations in the world who have these privileges and so many people wish that they have half the freedom we are given. I see it as a must to embrace the rights that I am given. I do not want to take them for granted or misuse them in any way because I appreciate what has been so graciously given to me without anything on my behalf. In my final analysis, I see my responsibility to America as a must, and there is no way to deny that I have a responsibility to my country. No matter where I am in life there will always be something that I am going to be responsible for whether it is myself, someone else, or something else, I will always have a responsibility. My duty to America is to respect those who are in charge, give my two cents when needed and, make the most of my life as an American. If I can be the change I want to see in this country then maybe I will have a chance at making it to its greatest
Responsibility may be defined as "a form of trustworthiness; the trait of being answerable to someone for something or being responsible for one's conduct." (www.thefreedictionary.com) Responsibility is shown all through Fred Gipsons novel Old Yeller about a family living in the dangerous wilderness in 1860. The young hard working Travis, his loving mother and the loyal dog Old Yeller all show responsibility.
Responsibility is a lot of different things and has many different parts. One part of responsibility is social responsibility. Social responsibility is being responsible for people, for the actions of people, and for actions that affect people. Social responsibility is about holding a group, organization, or company accountable for its effect on the people around it. When you do the wrong thing, many people pay for it, especially everyone that you know.
Citizenship is the fiber that unites all Americans. We are a nation connected not by race or religion, but by shared values of freedom, liberty, and equality. What does that exactly signify to the average American citizen? It indicates that several of us, including myself, have not only expressed several of our rights such as freedom to express ourselves, freedom to worship as we wish, voting in elections, serving on a jury or purchasing or owning a firearm but we aspire to protect those rights.
It is disrespectful to kneel during the national anthem because it disrespects the military and veterans, and could be done in a more professional way. I feel that kneeling shows how unappreciative those NFL players are. They get to go play the most popular sport in America for millions of dollars. There should be some consequences from taking this action. This protest could be done in a more professional way.
It’s not only fans who find this protest wrong, but even some players do, including Drew Brees. Brees says he agrees with the context of the protest, but not the actions of it, stating, "[I]t's an oxymoron that you're sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out."
Duty is defined as a responsibility, a moral or legal obligation. As Americans, we are obligated to
The Star Spangled Banner is a sacred song in the United States of America. It not only is a symbol of the fight that soldiers have had to go through, but also a representation of freedom. When the National Anthem plays out of respect for our country, and those who fought for it, everyone is supposed to stand and remove their hats. Currently in the National Football League (NFL) there is a handful of players, mainly African Americans, that have been taking a knee or raising a fist during the play of our National Anthem. This I believe, is a great sign of disrespect for our country and our veterans. This I believe, is very immature and unnecessary. This I believe, should be put to a stop by the NFL and the players should be ashamed of himself for doing this. I am aware that the players have the right to do this, but there are many reasons why this should not be taking place.
Responsibility, must be put down though we ought to change the definition notions. We want to be held responsible by society.
If we all hold ourselves accountable for our actions and strive to achieve above and beyond, but for the purpose of the common good of society, we will not only be setting a good example for one another, but helping out those who are struggling. There should never be a reason for not trying to excel according to Beecher in Source No 2. According to source No. 3 from the Josephson Institute of ethics, one should “do what they are supposed to do”. If one has a good understanding of the outcome of their actions and the impact they have and they accept it then they are upholding their civic duty. This is similar to Abe Lincoln’s thoughts in his message to congress on Dec 1, 1862 when he said, “In times like the present, men should utter nothing for which they would not willingly be responsible through time and eternity” (Source No. 1) . Here it can be agreed that our actions impact our future, thus, it is important to make sure that what we are doing is upholding our good standards of our constitution. Source No. 4 also proves that we are makers of the pie. In this it breaks down the meaning of responsibility and compares it to our the true meaning of our constitution being our basic given rights as humans...such as the freedom to move, and feel and
So, now that we have you all caught up, let's dig into the question at hand. Do NFL players have the right to protest the National Anthem while they are on the clock? Players are saying it is freedom of speech. While everyday Americans are saying it is a double standard and they could not do that without being fired from their jobs.
Towards the end of 2016, many Americans witnessed professional athletes of the National Football League taking a knee during the National Anthem on live television. The person who started this protest is Collin . He started the protest to fight against police cruelty against African- Americans. The movement inspires other athletes to get involved hoping to make a change in the community. While some people consider that the athletes are practicing their rights of speech, other people argues that the protests may not be appropriate referring to their job. In fact, the NFL players do have the right to practice their right of speech.
In our government society, we show respect to our countries in many ways. In today’s life, most respect is shown for example, at a NFL football game when they play the national anthem, or when the Star Spangled Banner is being recited at the president inauguration ceremony. Recently, professional NFL football player Colin Kaepernick, was questioned about why he didn't stand for the National anthem. His response for his action was “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” while showing his viewpoint for his benefactor to all the malevolent towards the blacks . According to Jeré Longman from At Uconn, Teaming Pledge Anthem, to Mixed Reviews, it states “Those who support
The National Anthem is a familiar tune for everyone who lives in the United States. It demonstrates respect to those who are willing to put their lives in danger and die in order to protect the United States. And when it plays across the football stadiums, it brings teams, fans, and everyone else together in unity to celebrate everything that’s good about their country; despite any unfortunate news on the TVs or radios. And when the NFL players kneel or sit during the anthem, all it does is that it shows great disrespect for the county regardless of their reason for their action.
This applies even in the NFL - where kneeling for the national anthem is a way for certain players to express their feelings and opinions towards social injustices. This expression of opinion hasn’t been taken well by all, for example, ex-49er Colin Kaepernick, who knelt for the anthem originally in August of 2016, has yet to find another quarterback job. Despite several teams needs at QB, owners reportedly feel like he is a liability due to the controversial press he brings himself and his respective team.
Even though things do not always go the way in which we would anticipate, personal responsibility will have a direct or ancillary effect on others because my character of integrity that is solely in my control and my part in taking personal responsibility. Therefore, I define myself by which decisions I choose to make, not blaming or pointing fingers in any direction, but acceptance of what is my own.
