Relationships are formed when one individual finds a connection with another individual and as a result of that connection; the individuals share conversation, time and their presence with each other. Usually, as long as the both parties in the relationship give each other the substance they require, the relationship will remain strong and last a long time. The problem occurs when one or both members of the relationship cease to fulfill the requirements needed for the relationship to maintain. As a result, the relationship begins to get weaker and eventually the relationship will die. The same rules apply when we are in a relationship with the church. There are many factors that may cause a regular church goer to suddenly stop attending church or to even drop out of church all together. One factor is that some evangelicals today feel they have to choose between their intellectual integrity and their faith. The more people become educated, the more questions they ask about scripture and their beliefs. The problem arises when the congregants are searching for answers that the pastor is unable to provide. The millennials are learning at a much faster rate than our forefathers and some of them have more knowledge about the word of God than the leadership of the church. The word of God never changes, but there are some pastors who refuse to gain more knowledge of the word and therefore struggle or refuse to answer questions the people may have. This causes the younger generation to seek answers elsewhere and that usually means leaving the church. The bible tells us that there were dropouts in the church just as there are today. 2 Timothy 4:10 explains that Paul labeled Demas a dropout. “Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me.” Whatever the reason for his exit, Demas is never heard from again. His disappearance arouses curiosity, as should the disappearance of enormous numbers of people in today’s church who may be headed to their own
