One argument is teens believe that they can rely on social media to protect their information. They trust Facebook’s security system to hide their personal information away from the public audience. Privacy is extremely important to some teens because they might talk behind their friends, and say mean things that they will never say to them face-to-face. Facebook is the fastest social networking site and it allows teens to spread rumors instantly about someone they do not like. Strom says, “Harmful messages intended to undermine the reputation of a victim can be far more damaging than face-to-face altercations. Instead of remaining a private matter or event known by only a small group, text or photographs can be communicated to a large audience in a short time.” On the other hand, teens think that everything they posted is secure and no one has access to it expect them. They can communicate with their friends who had moved away and talk to them when schools are over. Teens can see their family members that they do not get to see often. Kate Harding says, “Social networking such as Facebook and Myspace sites are not to blame for vile gossip. Networking sites are only a new medium for teenagers to wage their wars.” They can see what their friends are posting online and comment on it. Social media such as Facebook allows teens who do not have friends to have friends online. I agree with your point that social media is a great way to socialize with your friends and it also provides teens, communication tools to connect with their friends, long-distance family members; on the contrary, social media can disconnect teens from their real friends that they had known their whole life, and see during lunch
