Knowing the basics of who you are can be a big inspiration in life. It can help you define your limits, but at the same time push your limits above and beyond trying to create the best version of yourself. I believe that a person will never know who they truly are because with life, a person is constantly learning, and with learning comes changed perspectives. Basic qualities will always be held within a person, but new experiences will alter the mindset of who someone believes they truly are. Watching my grandparent’s eyes light up when I walk through the door is one of the most heartwarming memories of my life. It informed me that love is passed on through generations, along with pride and happiness. The countless hours I recall spent baking bread or playing monopoly are the things that I will cherish forever. Listening to the stories of the hardships their families were presented with growing up makes me even more appreciative for the wonderful blessings I have in my life. I have only been exposed to a small fraction of the world, but the memories and lessons you take home are worth more than a person can imagine. In Mexico I remember looking out the window of a tourist van and seeing the side of the street lined with military personnel holding guns. In Puerto Rico we were admiring the ocean and the cobble stone street when we came upon a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk. While these things seem unimportant, they drastically shape my perspective.
