Why loneliness is important in ones being? As declared by Marano (2001) loneliness is important and does matter since it leads to negative health behaviors, problems cognitive functioning, increasingly to be the cause of medical issues and act as a main cause of depression. Depression is an illness identified by depressive symptoms such as disturbance in cognition, mood and behavior (Sherina, Rampal, & Mustaqim, 2004). According to Barg, Huss-Ashmore, Wittink, Murray, Bogner & Gallo, (2006) loneliness plays an important role in the definition of depression. Loneliness is strongly related with loss of mobility, poor health, negative health outcomes, poor mental and physical health (Wenger, Davies, Shahtahmasebi, & Scott, 1996; Tomaka, Thompson, & Palacios, 2006; Chapman & Perry, 2008; Kaasa, K. 1998; Cornwell, & Waite, 2009; Perissinotto, Cenzer, & Covinsky, 2012). It acts as a factor of psychological problems and it is one of the three main element leading to depression, the cause of suicide and suicide attempts (Kaasa, 1998; Chiang, 2010; Segrin, Burke, & Dunivan, 2012). According to Chapman, & Perry, (2008), about 13.5% out of 539 older adults received health care in their homes found depressed. Depressive symptoms in nursing homes are found to be gradually high (Llewellyn-Jones & Snowdon, 2007). A study on 65 nursing homes in the Netherlands which consist of 562 residents are particularly telling that the symptoms of depressive disorder were obvious among the newly admitted nursing home residents (26.9%), especially those admitted from their own homes (34.3%) rather than from the hospital (19.7%).
