But I also don't think this would be a problem, since it wouldn't be hard to get students to sign up for an alternate language class because I'm sure a lot of students at Valley Center would like to learn another language besides Spanish. As you can see, you can greatly enhance your life in a lot of ways by learning a second language, such as communicating with people from other countries, expanding your vocabulary, and it will help open more doors to greater jobs in the future.
I have a nice little list of benefits you could be taking advantage that a couple of us here are already taking advantage even if we know it or not. Let's start with something a little more obvious. Psychological studies found that knowing more languages is a great asset. The benefits are usually only noticeable on those who speak other languages more frequently. Naturally younger kids can learn languages faster than older folk like us that's one reason why some of you probably dropped spanish.
Similarly as many examples of media are authentic material and are able to be used as an example of more realistic conversations, it will allow for better second language acquisition than many textbooks which include an overly scripted dialogue. With the available resources, it is now even easier to both attract and maintain the attention of students while still enabling them to develop a better grasp on a new language. Language Acquisition for Young Adults Muriel Saville-Troike (2006) believes that there is “complete agreement […] that since second language acquisition follows native language acquisition, a major component of the initial state for second language learning must be prior knowledge of a first language” (p. 18). The prior knowledge of their mother tongue is arguably the greatest influence on the acquisition of a foreign language as it involves the conversion of a prior understanding of one language into the other in either positive or negative ways. Knowing another language can often boost your career, getting better job, a chance of getting education, the ability to take a fuller part in the life of one’s own country or the opportunity to emigrate to another, the best way to broaden one’s literary and cultural horizons ,the expression of one’s political rights or religious views. It affects people’s careers and possible futures, their lives and every identities. In a world where probably more people speak two languages than speak one, language learning and language teaching are vital to the everyday lives of millions. As for financial aid, it being so competitive to qualify for, more funds need be invested in education to prepare for and welcome students outside of the country. A country with higher quality education and more than a few well sought out schools, more people from foreign countries will want to go there. Students that come from countries that are well economically stable will be able to share as a connection between their hometown and their current place of study in the United States (Eggleston). This connection creates improvement because if students decide to stay and use what they have learned and already know; perhaps they will start up a business as an entrepreneur and create jobs. Jobs created could be ones that they were unable to create overseas, and the United States had more potential for business if they found a target
There are many benefits of learning a second language, whether for work or pleasure. American society should encourage more people to learn a foreign language because it improves communication skills, memory and attention span, and opens up job opportunities. Humans would not function the same without communication. Sign language, written language, spoken language, and more, make interactions and events easier in daily life. At its best, communication skills can make people more confident in themselves.
They are able to be exposed into other cultures thoroughly as well as to strengthen the understandings of their own cultures. Cultural difference also introduces more lifestyle options to intercultural couples, which will enrich their life. Even if a couple ends up choosing one’s home country as their permanent residence, they will definitely visit the other’s hometown pretty often. Sometimes they live in a third country, which means they’ll go to both of their home countries from time to time. They have chances to travel in many places, experience different customs, and have friends from diverse backgrounds.
Being bilingual can not only help you find a job where you live but you can relocate to another state and be more likely to land a position in your desired career field. A lot of people think that being bilingual is inefficient for students who are barely starting to learn. They are wrong, because being bilingual increases your brain cells to work quicker, as well as becoming more aware of different cultures surroundings. When bilingual students graduate from school, they will have more opportunities in their career field. Being bilingual gives students an advantage because they can be involved in two diverse communities without feeling neglected.
In a globalized world where change is inevitable, learning a second language is a great benefit. Although it takes time and dedication, learning a new language has its benefits. Language is what defines a group of people. It is what separates them because of how they speak and also on how the language is developed.
