For me to be an effective leader, I must first evaluate my strengths. I took the Gallup 2.0 Strength Finder report which showed my strengths in an insight and action planning guide. The results indicated the top five themes for me were input, learner, responsibility, maximizer and arranger. I believe the evaluation offered an accurate assessment of my strengths. The input theme states my mind is like a sponge, soaking up information. As a lifelong learner, the second theme is also, correct. I have a quest for knowledge about things that interest me. I am responsible, in my job and life. As a maximizer, I focus on long term goals and strive toward excellence. As a nurse, working in an environment of change, the arranger strength in my personality allows me to adapt easily and figure out the best way to accomplish tasks (Strengths, 2012).
At this level in the pipeline the leader must hold a high level of maturity as a leader. This maturity can be characterized by the leader’s ability to have empathy, good judgment and should develop strong listening skills with the ability to interpret all the information they receive (Ram Charan). Additionally, these leaders must be able to see things in the long run as well as appreciate the short term objectives. Moreover, the level of maturity needed at this management level requires the individual to think, not like a functional member of the organization, but as a businessman (Ram Charan). These leaders must view all the decisions they make in a holistic way and seek out a strategic

I’ve learned that it’s better to think out of the box than always stick to the same routine. You can compete in an ever-changing marketplace if you’re always doing the exact same thing. Sometimes you have to let go of what’s not working instead of trying to fix it, as not everything and everyone are fixable. More importantly this case study affirmed that staying true to what you believe in, allowing your natural abilities to shine, and caring about the overall welfare of all parties involved are at the core of being a great

When it comes to management and leadership within any organization, there are fundamental components to consider, of which, managers of all backgrounds embody. One way to briefly assess these foundations is through Personal Assessment of Management Skills (PAMS), allowing examination of skill competencies from a number of strengths and weaknesses that can be brought to attention. This analysis will briefly discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the PAMS examination results and analyze the skill competencies and how they impact the role as an ethical leader. For the purpose of this examination, strengths will be assumed to be topics where the quality is in abundance. This comes with the assumption that while their importance may
Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process in whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details. I don't mind taking the time out to get the details. Yes, it may take some time up front and may not lead to a quick decision but in the long run it prevents mistakes and errors as well as misjudging which can lead to more heartache and pain down the road. Loyalty is also very important to me in the work center. Knowing that you are devoted and committed to the success of the organization will motivate your people to do the same. They also need to know that they can come to you with a problem whether it is personal or work related. This will allow them to be more open to bringing problems to your attention that could later have a disastrous effect on the organization in the future. Both pers...
These are the skills I already have such as: communication; personal skills; motivational; creative and time management skills. These I have previously acquired will help me to be successful in my career. To know how far on the scale of these specific skills I will have to do a self-assessment. A self-assessment is a very important tool used by managers in all industry. Sometimes you can’t possibly remember what you have done and how to improve yourself and by assessing my own skills this will allow me to remember all of my personal achievements and personal disappointments. This is a form of feedback which requires the assessor to be completely honest to themselves and in order f...

One of the assessments revealed that I am too task oriented and I tend to focus less on the concerns of people. I can enhance my leadership skills by gaining a balance with people and my tasks. Overall I have strong charismatic leader behaviors which accounts for building trust with my employees. Being trustworthy is a core value of being a successful leader and team player.
One of the core element of supervision is having managerial skills. The manager is one who has the obligation to study the time taken to execute the task. Then, the standards are set to accomplish the task for employees. Along these lines, manager measures the productivity of each employee. He is also responsible for arranging and managing the equipment, tools, machinery required for doing the work. This requires the manager to have a good education, experience, technical knowledge and the ability to perform administrative functions. Thus, the main aspect of managerial skills is to match the performance of employees with the limits ascertained (Sargent, 2003).
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
The skills approach to leadership focuses on what a leader can accomplish. Katz (as cited in Northouse, 2013) identified two skills for lower level managers. The skills are is technical and interpersonal proficiency demonstrating the ability to work with things and people. Katz included a third skill, conceptual, but stated its relevance to high level managers. Petkevičiūtė and Giedraitis (2013) concur with Katz that first level managers 1) run day to day operations which need less conceptual skills and 2) technical and human skills are critical for business success. Thus, conceptual skills are not part of the discussion on skills. The skills most applicable to the managers’ position will be discussed.
