Davon Thompson “Keeping A Secret” Keeping a secret can be both delightful and a burden, secrets are something that I think every human being has had or have, but trying to maintain them can sometimes be very difficult. The reasons people keep secrets and the reasons they tell them can also change based on the situation. There are several things that you must take into consideration when telling someone something confidential, things such as; can you really trust that individual, do you know any personally information about them, and have you told them any other important information in the past? When telling an individual a secret it is important to know the seriousness before you decide to tell anybody. It is important …show more content…
I think we also keep secrets to make others happy and keep them safe. For example, if my friend would have spoken to the wrong person, I could have possibly been prosecuted or kicked out of school. Keeping a secret also helps you build trust and confidence in our daily relationships with close individuals around us. Trust is something that I personally consider very important when it comes to building a relationship regardless if it is a business, romantic or friendly relationship. By telling another person’s business, you also could damage your own reputation and be looked at as untrustworthy. This may ruin your relationship with others around you, regardless if it has anything to do with them or not. Finally, keeping a secret can possible be a form of practicing self-control. I understand temptation can be very strong, but take a step back and put yourself in somebody else’s position and think about how you would feel if somebody decided to tell some type of information about you. Honestly you never know when you might have to keep a secret for/from someone close to you or you may possibly need someone to withhold some valuable information for your
It is important to voice one’s opinion, because hiding things can only lead to negative consequences. In Everything I Never Told You, Celeste Ng tells us a story about a girl, Lydia, who tried to carry out her parent’s unfulfilled desires. She deceived her parents into thinking that she was the perfect child that they always wanted her to be, popular and into medicine and science, but in reality it was quite the opposite. Her innate ability to hide her actual life from her parents ultimately led her family to breakup. Communication is extremely important amongst family members, because through thick and thin, they will always be there for you, no matter
I had mixed feelings one time when my friend, Gracie’s, twin sister was depressed. Her name is Meghan and she is 15 years old. She was depressed because her mom, Cathy, and her step dad had just split up. Meghan and her step dad were really close, so their breakup was not that easy for her. She had attempted suicide a few times for this reason. I should have said something that could have prevented her from trying to attempt suicide again. I learned that a friend is worth more than a secret.
In the world people try to hide things from each other but one way or
Lying is never the better option to take, as shown in the book, The Memory Keeper’s Daughter. When you lie you destroy relationships with the people you love, some of which relationships can never be made whole again and you will have to live life with your
...l of this just to keep a secret that ends up coming out anyway. This just proves the old saying, "What is done in the dark will come to light."
“Faced with what is right, to leave it undone shows a lack of courage” (Confucius Quotes, 2012). The person who does her duty, at great risk to her own interest, when most others would defy from fear is considered a hero (Schafer, 2004). Dr. Nancy Olivieri is a hero who blew the whistle on Apotex, University of Toronto (U of T) and the Hospital for Sick Children (HSC); and fought for her academic rights till the end. Whistle-blowing refers to actions of an employee that breach her loyalty to the organization but serves the public interest. When other constraints proved to be ineffective, whistle-blowing acts as a check on authority of the organization. Whistle-blowers expose severe forms of corruption, waste, and abuse of power within their organization and put the organization in a position where it is answerable to the public, thus enhancing its accountability (Cooper, 2006, pg. 198-205).
Plato once said: “Honesty is for the most part less profitable than dishonesty.” People are taught from a very young age never to lie or keep secrets. It would be easy for anyone to stand behind the argument: “Honesty is the best policy,” but in times of personal anguish, that decree is quickly disdained. What this argument fails to consider is that keeping a secret or lying is the justifiable in times of crisis.
Terms and Laws have gradually change overtime dealing with different situations and economic troubles in the world in general. So then dealing with these issues the workplace has become more complex with little or no rights to privacy. Privacy briefly explained is a person’s right to choose whether or not to withhold information they feel is dear to them. If this something will not hurt the business, or its party members then it should be kept private. All employees always should have rights to privacy in the workplace. Five main points dealing with privacy in public/private structured businesses are background checks, respect of off duty activities/leisure, drug testing, workplace search, and monitoring of workplace activity. Coming to a conclusion on privacy, are there any limits to which employers have limitations to intrusion, dominance on the employee’s behavior, and properties.
Different people, cultures, and nations have a wide variety of expectations about how much privacy is entitled to or what constitutes an invasion of privacy. Privacy is the ability of an individual or group to seclude themselves or information. Personal privacy has been declining in the past year which is caused by today’s technological society. With the latest technology such as face scanners, data collecting, and highly advanced software’s, privacy can be compromised, which is exactly what is being done today and it is unconstitutionally intrusive.
People tend to lie in everyday conversations to look and feel more likable. What if the truth could set you free, help make friends, or even be a part of a life long friendship? The argument usually brought up is, "Is it always best to tell the truth no matter the consequences?" I've been in certain situations were lies have caught up with me. That is to say, there isn't one way out of a lie, and you usually have to admit the truth one way or another. Some people think that lying isn't a big deal as long as they are small (white lies), but with enough of them you will be caught in the middle with no way out. You will be trapped in your lies, and don't ever think more lies will fix it! Lying isn't a good habit, and could trap you from a world of justice and incorruptible friends.
As society has progressed, there have been many new innovative and unbelievable developments in almost all aspects of life that have ultimately created an impact. More specifically, advancements in technology have rather had a much larger and intense impact on society as it continues to grow. Technology has allowed for many great and useful applications that has made life much easier and convenient. However, many aspects of technology have given a rise to a number of social and ethical issues, causing numerous debates and concerns. One of the more prominent concerns deals with the issue of privacy rights.
People are always cautious when it comes to the fine line between deception and the truth. Throughout our lives we are told not to deceive anyone otherwise we would eventually lose them due to our deviousness. However, the same could be said about telling someone the truth. How often can we find someone who has honestly never deceived or lied to someone in their life even if it was unintentional? Why is it wrong to deceive someone? What if they are better off hearing a lie from your lips instead of the cold, hard, and brutal truth? Or what if they are in danger of harming themselves and you need to tell someone, but don’t inform the person in danger that ...
Going into hiding can be very difficult. It could cause harm or worse to you or your family.
Despite existing laws and privacy enhancing technological methods, the US is progressively taking full advantage of its dominant position not just as the home of companies like Facebook, Google and Twitter but also acknowledging jurisdiction on all websites registered in the US. Therefore, countries such Brazil, Iran, Russia, India and China “are now challenging United States hegemony of the Internet and even calling for the creation of a new governing body to oversee Internet policy” (Brooke, 2012, p.245).
Telling the truth teaches one person self- respect for themselves and others as well. Telling the truth also sets a good example for others to do the same thing and make a “chain reaction”. People can make a “chain reaction” by passing on what they have done from one person to another, and before you know it, everyone is changing greatly, and the world is progressing tremendously. Lies are told all around the world, and they are told every day. One lie can often lead to another lie and cause you to be caught up in one big lie that will be hard to get out of if people do not tell the truth. If a person thinks that is okay to lie, they better think again, the truth always comes out no matter how hard a person tries to keep it in, or how much someone thinks that they can get away with lying. No person can keep in or hold a grudge with what they have done. After all, telling the truth is the right thing to do, and everyone should do it. Telling the truth is always much easier than the trouble of a
