In chapter two, Innovation and Growth the author explains why innovation, conceived through inventions, are pertinent for the growth of a nation. Inventions seen as “a dime a dozen,” cannot become widespread with out innovation. Innovation turns it into something that can benefit people and create value. Widespread use of an invention takes a considerable amount of time and research. Inventions generally start out confined to a narrow use, it isn’t until a significant amount of research and development is done to determine additional applications. It was certainly ahead of its time for online shopping. Even in North America in 1994 not everyone had a computer let alone had access to the internet. When online shopping did start to become more prevalent it was met with extreme skepticism, people did not feel comfortable putting their credit card numbers in computers. It was too unknown. Now, you don’t ever need to leave your house to have the things you want. I personally have never liked shopping, it always felt like a waste of time to me. Amazon helps me save time by not having to drive around to stores searching for something. It is a very efficient way for me to make purchases. I can type in exactly what I need and in one click it’s done. Working in global supply chain I apply this to my work as well. Amazon almost always offers the lowest price which eliminates the need to source for cheaper
