(A) The contentious subject matter surrounding privacy in the age of the internet is often seen as a human right issue ever since the conception of platforms that familiarized us to the internet. The internet in its current state is a cornucopia of innovation and imagination, the culmination of all that humanity has ever known or hopes to know, the result of thousands of years of innovation. Connecting countless of us, no matter where we are, our financial state nor our level of intellect as long as we have a simple network connection. Iceland’s history concerning internet privacy and free speech on the internet has been a topic regarded to be of paramount importance. Since the start of the century, Iceland has increasingly recognized the importance of free speech in the internet, it had for example, created strict data privacy to combat interference and strictly enforced these rules on the government to protect the privacy and rights of its people. Iceland as a governing state even went so far as to created and enact a piece of legislation rightfully named the “act on the protection of privacy as regards the processing of personal data” (Act. No. 77/2000) in which Iceland not only accepted the European Union’s privacy regulations which has been undoubtedly stated to be far more advanced than of the US but instead it had gone further and gotten more stringent requirements to maintain data.
