In the world today, many people are suffering from diseases because of poor healthcare. With the government desperately trying to find solutions to this problem, they called for the Engineers and computer scientists to help, who are doing their best in solving the problem. The engineers are building machines to monitor the patients either at the hospital or in their homes. Meanwhile the computer scientists are focusing on developing programs that can help anyone check their health not to mention also seeking help if they need it. In addition to these improvements, the general health care must change its method with dealing with the problem so that they can help anyone before they might get themselves in danger. However, without good general …show more content…
Real time monitoring can provide enormous benefits to doctors for example, it can warn doctors if anything happens to the patients and it will keep a record so that we can understand how to tackle these diseases (Wakefield, 2012). According to Menachemi and Collum (2011), real time monitoring can help with increasing hospital’s database. While patients are being monitored, the data about the disease is stored electronically in a database which then can be accessed by doctors to improve their ability to cure the disease if it occurred again. Real time health monitoring can inform anyone nearby how the patient is doing and to see if the patient needs any medical care (Herzog, 2015).although having real time health monitoring is better than nothing. Kakria, Tripathi, and Kitipawang (2015) stated that the time it takes to send the data to the hospital can take more the 6 minutes, which is under acceptable range in American heart association. . While it is a simple equipment that can be attached to a patient, it can track any vital, mental and physical changes that can be fatal to the patient and notifies the doctors so that they can act on the patient as soon as possible (Herzog, 2015). Other method that computer scientist can do to improve health monitoring is by the internet. Herzog (2015) stated that by using the internet patients can …show more content…
Engineers can help with building some devices to help patients to check their health or improve their houses to suit their needs. One of the ways to improve patient’s health is by replacing torn off limbs. According to Grovette (2016), advance in prosthetics can improve the lives of anyone that had his arms or legs damaged or was born without any, it is now possible to replace the damaged limbs with advanced prosthetics that a human can control using the nerve system. However, prosthetics limbs can also be harmful to anyone wearing it. Not only that the prosthetics are expansive, prosthetics can harm the patient more than help the patient if attached incorrectly (Brian, 2010). Another major discovery by engineers is with the possibility to regenerate lost tooth. Grovette (2016) stated that a team at Harvard has successfully regenerated rats and human lost tooth by using low powered lasers to stimulate the stem cells and grow new teeth. In addition, a new type of light bulb is being developed to disinfect and kill bacteria. The new type of light bulbs will be similar in size and shape of a regular light bulb, but it can continuously disinfect the room by preventing the bacteria from repopulating in the room. This light bulb can help hospitals with keeping the hospitals clean and disinfected for the new patients. Another way for engineers to improve health monitoring and general well being
Telemedicine hold a great promise in health information technology, it not only promises to improve health care delivery but it also aids in serving the most vulnerable of patients.
Heart Failure (HF) is prevalent disorder that affected 6.6 million people in the United Sates during 2010 (Patarroyo-Aponte & Colvin-Adams, 2014). The heart lacks the ability to push oxygenated blood throughout the cardiovascular system. This disorder prevents vital organs from getting the oxygen needed in order to perform their duties as well. The disorder must be managed and maintained since HF is a disorder that not only affects the heart but respiratory system, endocrine system, digestive system and all other system (Chiarugi, Colantonio, Emmanouilidou, Martinelli, Moroni, & Salvetti, 2010). Heart failure is a serious disorder is which expected to increase by 25% by the year 2030. To coincide with the people diagnosed with heart failure, 50% of these people will die within the 5 years of being diagnosed (Patarroyo-Aponte & Colvin-Adams, 2014). With these numbers of diagnoses and mortality puts a strain on the quality of healthcare, cost of healthcare and workflow of healthcare system. However, the earlier the patient can be diagnosed with heart failure will help decrease mortality rates, hospital stays and cost of treatments. One of the ways of early detection for heart failure is by the implementation of a clinical decision support system (CDSS) into a healthcare facility.
The delivery of health care has always been influenced by technological developments and innovations. This is particularly true in modern health care professionals where they are obsessed with technology and rush to apply them. One of the most recent applications of ICT – Information and computer technology- is telehealth. Telehealth is the use of communication, diagnostic and information technology to provide health care when patients and providers are geographically separated [2], Technologies include videoconferencing, the internet, store -and-forward imaging, streaming media, terrestrial and wireless communications. Telehealth could be as simple as two health professionals discussing a case over the telephone or as sophisticated as doing robotic surgery between facilities at different ends of the globe.
It is impossible to provide excellent care to the patient without technology we have today. Being Health IT, we can help health care professionals to do what they do best: provide excellent care to your patients. Health Information Technology will improve the safety and quality of service provided to the patient and that is the main goal of health care professional as well as it helps in improving the health outcomes, and the health care experience of patients. Being a health care professional I have a desire to improve health care through technology. I want not only want to learn fundamentals and vital aspects in Health Information Technology instead I want to understand and solve real world
...ng informatics. The integration of an early warning scoring system with nursing practice is a means with which technology and nursing knowledge evolve to “applied wisdom” (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2012). The data is represented by the vital signs. The collection of vital signs will generate information. The information will be scored in the system and alert the nurse when there are abnormal findings. The nest steps can only be taken by the nurse. Critical thinking, interpretation and application of the findings from the patient’s medical record are the next steps. Nurses must be able to apply the information into their nursing practice in order to continue to develop and deliver the best care to patients. As technology continues to expand to many clinical areas, nurses will need to continue to understand how the world of technology translates to patients.
Working as a professional registered nurse in the hospital, I realized how nurses struggle to find balance between devoting the time charting on the computer and spending time taking care of the patients. Moreover, I’ve seen nurses where they get discouraged trying to find this balance between patients and charting. As a bedside nurse, I would love nothing, but to tend to the needs of my patients. The length of time consume on electronic charting all day, take the very essence of bedside nursing away from nurses, which is caring. Reducing the time of nurses being occupied on charting by eliminating redundant tasks while conforming to their standard, are the changes I would like to make. These are a few of the reasons why I wanted to pursue a degree in informatics. I would advocate for nurses everywhere and to become an instrument in providing them a better electronic health system to work on. Pursuing the degree in nursing informatics will benefit me in
Electronic Monitoring vs. Health Concerns Is privacy and electronic monitoring in the work place an issue that is becoming a problem? More and more employees are being monitored today then ever before and the companies that do it aren't letting off. While electronic monitoring in the work place may be the cause of increased stress levels and tension, the benefits far exceed the harm that it may cause. Employees don't realize how often electronic monitoring happens in their work place. An estimated twenty million Americans are subjected to monitoring in their work place, commonly in the form of phone monitoring, E-mail searches, and searching through the files on their hard drive (Paranoid 435).
Technology has affected almost every facet of our lives. Thanks to the internet, which has reformed our lives in a great way, shaping our personal lives as much as our working world and leisure time. It enables us to perform tasks cheaply and effectively that required great amount of time and were quite expensive to perform in the past. The world of healthcare is no exception, where IT is facilitating to shape the mode in which the diseases are diagnosed, and care to the patients is delivered. The e-Health facilities we are having in access today, started their revolutionary journey almost 40 years ago with the vision to provide best medical care and treatment to the patients by providing advanced treatment procedures and options to the health care practitioners .
Healthcare is changing at a very fast pace. Just in the last one decade, not only the healthcare providers are using the technology, but also the patients or consumers are using the technology for maintaining their health because there is a tremendous change in the thinking of everyone in this modern age of technology. There are always some benefits and challenges with the use of every set of technology. In health care facilities, health care providers, especially nurses, are using various forms of technologies in every day dealing with the patients. From measuring blood pressure to the highly advanced use of MRI and other highly sensitive machines, the technology is bringing a big change for taking care
A telehealth monitoring program called Vidant was launched in 2012. This program gave patients certain devices to measure their vital signs, and then transmitted the results to their healthcare providers. The success was immediately shown with this particular program; the patient hospital admission dropped 20% in the first year, and fell 74% in 2013 (Rockoff, 2015). Additionally, telehealth is necessary in some cases. When there was the Ebola crisis, contact with a patient could be detrimental to the doctor or nurse. In order to receive care, a new electronic stethoscope was used on Ebola patients in United States hospitals. No human contact needed to be made to use it. The stethoscope was connected t...
Crime and punishment. Those two words seem to go together, as one can be seen as the problem (Crime) and the other is the solution (punishment). But sometimes the punishment that is chosen for the offender is not always effective in community corrections. Especially when it comes to electronic monitoring. Electronic monitoring is not effective as a community corrections. In this paper it will cover what electronic monitoring is, and how it is not a deterrence in either location of the crime is where the offender is supposed to be or that offenders can commit crime while wearing the monitor or that it is not taken seriously as a punishment. It will also cover or how house arrest can restrict movements and limit job searches, and recharging problems
In the article “Medical Technology and Ethical Issues”. The authors describe that how computerize system uses in emergency rooms. The RIP is a computer program which is helping the doctors make knowledgeable decision about whether to manage life treatments or just patients to die. Program investigate all of the input on specific patient and makes prognosis on the probability
From state and federal levels, the healthcare industry has come a very long way, experiencing changes along the way. The development of advanced technology that has enhanced the quality of healthcare delivery systems will help all patients to be able to benefit. Doctors are able to access patient records at a faster rate and respond to their patients in a much more timely fashion. E-mail, electronic transfer of records and telemedicine will give all patients and physicians the tools needed to be more efficient, deliver quality care and deliver quality telecommunication at a faster pace than before.
The medical field has been subjected to many difficulties. Improving the quality of healthcare was always an unanswered question (Stein 754). Computer, with its unbelievable ability to make developments, found an answer to that question. The present day fourth generation computers have started performing many fantastic and incredible functions in hospitals. It can be said that there is no medical procedure is done in which a computer cannot be used (Joseph 73). If a person is visiting a physician for an examination, having lab work or a test, or experiencing a surgery, the medical staff around him will use computers for various purposes. When people are offered with new innovations that require new knowledge and change work style, there is a possibility of resistance (Stein 755); however, when computer make ones work much easier, those resistances will be automatically wiped out. Computer has brought some remarkable changes in our healthcare system. It h...
In other words, ICT basically promotes professionalism and reduce human effort as well as reducing the chances of erring. Healthcare simply means preventing, diagnosing and curing ailments that terminate life and reduce lifespan of human and all living things. In other words, the prevention, treatment, and management of illness and the preservation of mental and physical well-being through the services offered by the medical and allied health professions. Information and Communications Technology (ICT) play a vital role in improving health care for humanity. It is efficient in providing, communicating and storing certain information about users and uses. ICT helps in bridging the gap created in health sector and may be used to enhance efficient relationships between the healthcare providers and health researchers. In other words, through the development of databases and other applications, ICT enhances health research and; this provides the capacity to improve health system efficiencies and prevent medical errors. The use of ICT can never be evaluated without
