Why should people have ownership of a gun? Isn’t it obvious that guns are dangerous! Anyone can shoot anyone and cover it up as “Self-defense”. Guns kill people. In the wrong hands a gun is deadly. Having guns just creates an atmosphere of fear. It grows a culture for a need for protection, power, fear and violence. You do more damage to yourself and the world by having guns. Why would you continue to allow guns if it’s the biggest killer to American citizens per year? Why allow guns when the death toll is rising? Why keep them when the number of insane people that get hold of guns and go on a rampage and decide to kill innocent children and adults are becoming more frequent? When will people wake up and see that guns are the worst kind of defense? When will people see that nothing good comes out of keeping a gun? When will they realize they must be banned! Do people not care about all the innocents that have died by the hand of guns and their crazy yielders? If people only want and keep guns because they are scared of being attacked why don’t they just learn self-defense instead? People like to keep guns because it makes them feel safer and more powerful, if you hurt them they can kill you. Now how is that in anyway okay? That just spreads the message of its okay to kill people as long as it was in “self-defense” how is that defense? It is violence plain, clear and simple. Guns are a weapon not a defense. People come up with excuses like they are “protecting their property” but how is that a good justification for yielding a lethal weapon. You shouldn’t have to kill and individual in defense of it. How many people who own guns actually know how to use them properly and safely? How many people took a gun safety class before they ...

...can also invest in a taser or even bear mace which are both very effective on people. They both provide enough pain to hold the criminal till authorities arrive or for you to simply leave the situation for protection.Criminals will never be stopped, not even with a gun ban: Yes, if guns were banned, criminals would have a bit more power. But when has that stopped them in the past. Some people are authorized to carry guns, and criminals know that, yet the still rob banks, convenience stores, houses, and people on a day-to-day basis. It has not deterred them so far, so it is safe to assume that they would continue like always if no one had them. But this would make it easier for law enforcement as well. Now, they know that if anyone is carrying a gun, they are breaking the law, and can act appropriately to see justice is served, preferably by arresting the offender.
As long as there have been men and women on this planet there has been violence. This is an immutable fact. In all likelihood, there will always be violence within the human race. Robert Heinlein said, "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms." Indeed this is plausible. The premise of these arguments is that giving a creature with a proven track record of violence a phenomenally powerful tool of destruction is less than wise. As an alternative, this paper proposes to limit access to such powerful devices (semi-automatic firearms) through the use of tracking methods, restricted sales, and heavier penalties for illegal possession of firearms. The firearms most specifically addressed are semi-automatic weapons including repeating rifles and handguns.
America is the most well armed nation in the world, with American citizens owning about 270 million of the world’s 875 million firearms (Marshall). Indeed, this is more than a quarter of the world’s registered firearms. The reason why Americans own so many guns is because of the Second Amendment, which states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Rauch) This amendment guarantees U.S. citizens the right to have firearms. Since this amendment is relatively vague, it is up for interpretation, and is often used by gun advocates to argue for lenient gun laws. Hence, gun control is a frequently discussed controversial topic in American politics.
“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration. Even if that issue is overlooked, gun control advocates state that in order to reduce firearm related violence, gun control laws must be implemented to remove the violence caused by firearms. Although this may seem reasonable, the consequences of such laws are ironically counterproductive; they exacerbate the problem instead of fixing it. Besides the fact that the American Constitution guarantees its citizens the right to bear arms, the idea of restricting gun ownership in order to reduce firearm-related violence would ultimately fail given the previous experiments of gun control in England and in numerous states.
The issues of gun control are the subject of much controversy. In the article “The Killer Who Supports Gun Control” by Nicholas D. Kristof (2013), he argues that a strong gun control will yield fewer deaths. Kristof summarizes how the gun itself and the person are responsible for deaths, in order to show how dangerous the combination of the two is.
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjected people to
...nseless people of america defend themselves against a robbery or something else. the answer is that they wouldn't. concealed handguns at least let you have the power to stop and assault directed toward you. If we had no guns we as americans wouldn't be able to protect ourselves against robbers of other things. There are elected officials that are actively engaging in the development of measures to destroy our Constitutional right to bear arms as per the 2nd amendment. Our inalienable right to bear arms is under assault by unlawful and sweeping proposals for gun bans, ammunition bans, ammunition caps, forced gun registration, prognosticated gun confiscation, and more, based upon tragic mass shooting events perpetrated by CRIMINALS and/or the MENTALLY ILL, that obtained weapons ILLEGALLY. This is why I am against gun control. It would eventually destroy the country.
Gun control is an issue that has been debated by Americans since the 1960’s (Dolan 1). The debate questions the right of Americans to bear arms, this including, handguns, shotguns, and rifles. Some say a simple restriction of these arms is in order while some think they should be banned altogether (Dolan 1). Both sides hold strong opinions often causing conflict in the matter and confusion among the citizens of the United States.
A family is sitting together on the couch watching their favorite TV show. Suddenly, the father turns to the news channel. A shooting at a local bank has killed fifteen people so far. Many are still being held hostage. Gun control should be more regulated because people abuse the privilege, everyone would be safer, and violence would decrease.
Will gun control stop harm or protect citizens? Today, the opinions of Americans vary on whether guns harm or protect citizens. However, gun control is not a new controversial issue. In 1924, U.S. Senator, Robert La Follete, said, “Our choice is not merely to support or oppose gun control but to decide who can own which guns under what conditions.” This proves that gun control has been a concern to Americans since the mid- twentieth century, and possibly even earlier than that. Even with the U.S. laws limiting the access of guns, it has not stopped the misuse of guns. Thirteen school shootings have been recorded in the United States within the first six weeks of 2014. Gun control is an effort to stop crimes by limiting who can access guns. Guns are very powerful weapons that have a great impact on society. They can change a family’s life forever. The destruction they cause cannot be reversed or taken back, and one trigger could take a person’s life away. For these reasons, government interference is needed to restrict the harm guns can cause. The U.S. government should place more limitations on guns because of the carelessness and misuse of guns, which has led to an increasing number of crimes and violent actions against the innocent.
A whopping 67.8 percent of the total crimes in the world were gun related. In the United States alone, 60 percent of all reported cases of homicides involved guns. This can be one reason that leads many to believe that guns are responsible for the prevalence of criminality across different countries. After all, the United States is the highest in gun ownership, with 88.8 percent per 100,000 people owning guns. Guns are weapons that encompass a high level of danger in the hands of those who have a criminal mind. Many countries have implemented policies on gun control while at the same time urge others to do the same to fight crimes.
The bloodshed has shocked the US, leading President Barack Obama to call for calm. At least 64 law enforcement officers had been shot and killed this year, the most in five years. The shooters in the incidents did not have permits that they needed to be carrying the gun they had. Only thirty-one states allow the open carrying of a handgun without any license or permit. Do we really want anyone without a permit to carry a handgun in our states? Then going around shooting law enforcement and innocent people. Concealed weapon holders need to have a permit to carry a weapon because it will help saves lives, take the bad people off the street, and lower crime rates.
Gun control is a huge deal to me and the rest if America. It is a huge deal and there are two very
I say no because criminals will always find loopholes to get weapons and commit crimes. Many people are for Gun Control and equally against it. Gun Control can make any previous gun owner a criminal and can make hunting and Shooting at a gun range very hard things to do. A study found that in Texas when the “Right to carry” law became effective in 1995, Homicides and Man Slaughters went down from 9,000 people in 1995 to its lowest point in 2008 which is 5,000 people. (Just Facts 1)
In the past few months there have been so many tragedies due to the access people have to guns. It is a scary thought that nothing is stopping a person taking a handgun from a club and using it however they feel like it. Most massacres are committed by people with no criminal record or no known history of mental illness. This means that no one can predict who will be the next crazy killer to go on a rampage, therefor we need to be strict on weapon use and who can actually take or own one of their own. So if handguns or any gun in general weren’t that accessible and so easy to get a hold of, most of this senseless violence would not occur. Many people can agree that if the proper laws are fully enforced we would have fewer criminals and much less death. For countries all around, it is very sad when any kid at a young age can get access to a dangerous firearm it’s just senseless. Readers can also agree that banning guns will not stop all violence as some people will go to a huge lengths to still get that one weapon, but people can be assured that it will have a dramatic decrease in the deaths and violence in any country around the
Gun control is a very hot topic in politics today. Some people think gun control is necessary to protect the people but nothing could be further from the truth. Gun control needs to be more relaxed if we are to prevent crime from happening at all. If more people are enabled to legally carry guns than more crimes will to stopped before they even happen, creating a better and safer society. No matter how much gun control legislation is passed criminals will still find a way to get ahold of weapons so it is necessary to ensure the American people are armed to fight such people. The truth is that we live in a world which needs guns to protect people. That is why police officers carry weapons and that is why civilians should carry guns themselves.
