In today’s world, games tend to be more for children than seen in adults. These games are essential for them and also play a major role in the child’s development because they learn many different learning skills by playing games. When adults actually have time to get a chance to play a game on their own, they seem them more for their enjoyment rather than equally as important. From a perspective, adults are more mature than children. Adults typically try to set an example for their children which allows them then to not have any time to play any games and believe games in general are one of the most important factors that serve in a child’s life. It is important for a child to be given the time to play games due to helping them through early learning, act socially with others, and telling the difference between from what is right from wrong. The early part of learning is first being able to make decisions, solve problems, have exert self control, and follow rules. As children solve encounters that come up, they must exert control over themselves, accept restrictions on their own behavior, and follow the rules if they want to be worthy and successful in the game. Recently, there have been many active video games that have become popular amongst children that can encourage exercise. Video games such as the Wii and the Xbox connect engage children in a whole new way in which the whole body is actively involved. The scientific journal JAMA Pediatrics conducted a study to evaluate the effects of active video gaming on the physical activity and weight loss in children. The research group conducted a 16-week study on seventy five overweight or obese children that were enrolled into a community-based weight management program. The average age of the participants was 10 years old, the average BMI score was 2.15 and the percent of overweight form the median BMI was 64.3 percent. The participants were broken down into two groups to assess the effects that active video gaming could have on weight loss; however both groups received the family-based pediatric weight management program Join for Me. The participants in the program and active gaming group received a game console and motion capture device and one active game at their second treatment session. They also received a second game in week nine of the program. Participants in the program only group were handed the hardware items and two games at the completion of the 16-week program. The results of the study concluded that the participants in the program and active gaming group exhibited a great increase in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity but the program only group saw a decline or no change in their physical activity levels. In both groups, participants exhibited significant reductions in percentage overweight and BMI scores but the program and active gaming group exhibited a significantly greater amount (JAMA Pediatrics, 2014, p.1). Play helps equip children for what life may throw at them. Children are born to be actively engaged and explore the world with their own eyes. Through play children learn what it means to fail in life as well as what it means to accomplish a goal. Play is not only a strategy to keep children entertained in early childhood, but also allows children to learn how to create and work together at an early stage. Children at play has been undervalued by society without realizing that “playfulness is that benign base on which the most valuable worlds of children can be successfully built (Iakov, 2012, p. 25),” meaning that play is a fundamental strategy that assist children to develop experiences for the future. It is very upsetting that society undervalues play without acknowledging that play allows a child to express his sentiments and understand how to deal with emotions. Also, play has the power to teach children about themselves. Specifically, a child will “begin to have an ever-greater influence on perception and understanding of (certain aspects of) the real world and real events- past, present, and future- and begins to define the relation with the real world (Iaakov, 2012, 26).” This demonstrates that just as food helps build the body, play helps a child develop their mind for what lies ahead of them. Do video games induce emotional, physical and psychological scars on children? This question has been pondered by millions of researchers across the globe. On the news there have been frequent accounts of acts of violence caused by children. However it is not the child, parents, or guardians that are blamed. Instead the media has often blamed the video game industry for these acts of immorality. After the Columbine Shootings Bill Clinton (1999) stated that "Over 300 studies report that the boundary between fantasy and reality violence, which is a clear line for most adults, can become very blurred for vulnerable children. Kids steeped in the culture of violence do become desensitized to it and are more capable of committing it themselves" The media has mainly focused their attention on all the research about the negative impact of video games. However, what about the benefits of playing video games? Why hasn’t this side of the story been covered in as much detail? In actuality video games are a benefit to a child’s development because they encourage growth in socialization, catalyzes self-growth and discovery through logical reasoning, and are a source of fun and freedom.
Effective communication is important in developing positive relationships for many reasons. Using positive communication will help children feel comfortable in their surroundings. Getting down to the same level as a child when explaining something or talking to them and using language that is age appropriate will help promote a feeling of self-worth and build their confidence. It is important when speaking with children to ask for feedback on what you have said to make sure it has been understood. When giving instructions you should ask the child to repeat the instructions back to you. This works both ways and you should always ensure that when a child is talking to you, you actively listen and show that you are interested by asking questions
Thinking back on my childhood, I first remember all the times I played outside in my backyard. I would pretend to dig up dinosaur bones or create imaginary realms of ancient lands; there I would perform diplomatic services for the people in need. I was usually alone, and those are some of my fondest memories. When I first decided to become a teacher and thought about what is important to my philosophy on how children learn, I immediately knew I was a strong believer in play. Although, many decision makers such as legislators and school district leaders believe in more academic types of learning styles, my paper will discuss why play is so powerful and important to children.

The types of games that children play change dramatically compared to early childhood. In addition to the activities that they already play, they start to strive for a challenge. Middle childhood is the time when children acquire skills such as reading and arithmetic. During this time children start to play games that are complicated and rule oriented. Because of these changes, children begin to play games based on strategy such as playing cards and other games that test their mind. They play games such as Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh. These card games require children to count, remember, and plan strategies. By playing these games, children begin to plan consciously, coordinate actions, evaluate their progress, and modify their plans and strategies based on reflection and evaluation.
