Most importantly, the biggest reform that emerged form Christianity was forgiveness in one. In the ancient world, the belief was to reward your friends and punish your enemies. They wanted to see their enemies crushed and hear the screams of their women, as they believed that was bliss. Ancient worlds taught their people, that forgiving was for the weak. Christianity over took this outlook and began a whole new movement in forgiveness. Jesus was teaching that the best in life is to love your enemies and see them reconciled to you. “Forgiveness in the bible is one of the greatest blessings that God has given us, and one of the greatest blessing we can give to others.” (Page 1) Christian teachings tell us that we must forgive the ones who wrong …show more content…
To begin, Christianity teaches that the spiritual sphere is the real world and that matter is evil. Thus teaching the body is the prison of the soul, holding it back from its true potential. Christianity also teaches humanism, explaining that the only importance is the physical and social needs of man. (Williams, 2000, para. 1-2) The Christians were against how the female body transformed through puberty. Puberty is a way of life, and breasts are inevitable no matter what size. The Christians disapproved and made all the women make sure that there body parts were fully covered and looked like the female body parts weren’t there. The Christian campaigns in the United States, base their motives for revolts on biblical claims that homosexuality is going against God. Today, Christians are revolting against the homosexuals because in the bible it states that it is wrong to be involved with someone of the same sex. But, it also condemns every man is a sinful creature, not just those engaging in homosexuality. God taught us that if he can forgive our sins, we must be able to forgive others for theirs. The Christians that follow the Lords word are also the ones committing sins themselves. There are many Christian families that have kids who grow up and decide to be a homosexual, and the parents of those kids disown their children and never speak to them again. There are also many homosexuals who are murdered by Christians because they are not following what the Bible states. So the ones who are preaching Gods’ word are also the ones committing a sin because they believe it is the right thing to do. There are many homosexuals who also commit suicide because the Christians put so much pressure on them to do what is right. (40 Harmful Effects of Christianity,
The position to choose between forgiving one’s evil oppressor and letting him die in unrest is unlike any other. The Sunflower by Simon Wiesenthal explores the possibilities and limitations of forgiveness through the story of one Jew in Nazi Germany. In the book, Wiesenthal details his life in the concentration camp, and the particular circumstance in which a dying Nazi asks him for forgiveness for all the heinous acts committed against Jews while under the Nazi regime. Wiesenthal responds to this request by leaving the room without giving forgiveness. The story closes with Wiesenthal posing the question, “What would you have done?” Had I been put in the position that Wiesenthal was in, I would ultimately choose to forgive the Nazi on the basis
Life as we all know is full of disappointment and filled with disparity. Most of us are able to go through these and learn from and forgive ourselves. Yet, this isn’t always the case. People are faced with traumatic experiences that often take a long time to get over, if they ever do get over it. These experiences brew in our brain popping up at the most random points often bringing our spirits down. Although these experiences may scar us and fill us with regret and guilt, we can’t continue to live in the past and let these regrets haunt us. Self forgiveness is a key to healing and to moving on in life, no matter how hard it is.
The rattling story of Joseph told of a man who must struggle with the most horrid betrayal from his family in which he learned to forgive them and even helped them flourish in later life. Justified by a need to make them properly atone for their sins, Joseph put his brothers through hell and back. In the end, Joseph ended up feeling happier for reconnecting with his family and saving them from the ominous hands of the famine that plagued Canaan. Although it may seem that the Bible suggests exonerating those who have deeply wronged one shows weakness and too much leniency, forgiveness allows one to become a stronger person and allow for the restoration of bonds amongst once-close companions.
The kids were all that each other had to depend on when bad situations occurred. Brian is saved by Lori after grand mom Erma tried to force herself onto him. After Rex knowing that his mother is an abusive women because of his past experience with her, he still leaves the kids with her while him and Rose Mary returned back to their home in Phoenix. After a week Rose Mary and Rex left, Erma ordered Brian to follow her into grandpa’s bedroom. “I went into grandpa’s bedroom and saw Erma kneeling on the floor in front of Brain, grabbing at the crotch of his parents, squeezing and kneading while mumbling to herself and telling Brian to hold still, goddammit.(The Glass Castle pg146)” Lori quickly runs to the room after hearing commotion and tried to stop Erma. When Rex finally returned and heard about the incident they appear to not care about what happened. “I don’t care what happened! “He yelled. (The Glass Castle
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies.
Forgiveness and justice are very similar than we believe them to be. We believe that justice is
The Christian faith focuses on the orientation of the human heart behind human thoughts and actions. Living by faith is a beautiful alternative to the way people think of themselves and the way they live in relation to others in their daily lives (Merrick, 2014). Christians see themselves in terms of God’s profound love for them but not in terms of what they do. The teachings of the Christian faith; nonviolence, non-retaliation, inward integrity, selflessness, and love your neighbor as yourself provide the framework for ethical thinking. Although, adopting belief in Christianity can bring forth confusion in the heart and mind causing agony of learning to sacrifice one’s rightful claims for personal justice for the restoration of another (Merrick, 2014). Unconditional forgiveness is difficult to understand because spiritual forgiveness and actual costly forgiveness is viewed as the same in the gospel. If you do not forgive, then one does not have faith in God’s forgiveness as it really is. Christianity influences a person thinking and behavior developing wisdom which requires faith. The faith that is needed to reorient the heart away from selfishness to selflessness.
Darkness is a relentless force that will gradually deteriorate everything it touches unless stopped by a superior power. Darkness cannot mask light, but light can mask darkness by the power of love and grace. Elizabeth Proctor from The Crucible by Arthur Miller is hidden in the darkness by her unwillingness to forgive her husband, John Proctor for lechery. As the Puritans in Salem, Massachusetts are hanged for being falsely accused of witchcraft, Elizabeth discovers grace. In “Arthur Miller’s Introduction to His Collected Plays,” Miller explains, “the sin of public terror divests man of conscience, of himself” (51). The widespread paranoia in Salem leads Puritans to disregard their moral beliefs in order to save their lives. However, Elizabeth
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is a play filled with backstabbing and deceit, but compassion and forgiveness are the prevailing themes hovering above the rest. People in the book are engrossed in a culture which lets women do no more than cook, tend the house and read. Women and girls in this culture often become bored with their lives and attempt to find outlets and this happened in the puritan lifestyle of which the Crucible is engrossed in. Compassion is a main theme of this book which takes its effect through Hale’s actions in the court, John Proctor’s attitude towards Abigail's love and Elizabeth's forgiveness of Proctor for Adultery.
Is it possible to forgive a wrong done to someone else? Should only those who repent be forgiven?
Many Christians have never fully read the bible and base their understanding of it on word of mouth. Looking at it closer, one would notice that many parts of the bible are not of any use or are mostly rejected in today’s society, which is why we should reevaluate its teachings and revoke any that are no longer needed. Even the Pope has gone against scripture that is unacceptable in our world today. “If they accept the Lord and have goodwill, who am I to judge them?” This is a quote from Pope Francis, stating that as long as a person does good, who is anyone to judge them. In the Old Testament it says, “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.” (NKJ, Leviticus 18:22) and “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.” (NKJ, Leviticus 20:13) Not only do these quotes condemn homosexuality they illustrate the lack of equality due to the lack of representation of women in the law. In the New Testament, Jesus never directly mentions homosexuality, but instead condemns all forms of sexual immoral behavior. “What comes out of
Has someone that is a close relative or friend ever been taken away and never to return? The only way you can see or speak with them is by looking at a tomb stone. This is one of the most painful experiences any human being will go through. Most people do not even realize the forgiving and not coping with the pain is a key step in healing and letting go. But if one fails to do so they will be bitter, angry and cold heart for the rest of their life.
Forgiveness is freedom. There is a key that opens the door to healing, happiness and peace, that key is forgiveness. Forgiveness starts from you and it is the greatest gift you can give yourself. Forgiveness of both self and others is the most powerful tool we have, and it is readily attainable to all of us .Take a step of creating a kinder humanity by forgiving someone in your life. If you are convinced and ready to forgive, you may be wondering where to start. My suggestion is to start small by letting go of the grudges, bitterness and anger.
Forgiveness is the act of releasing an offender of any wrong or hurt they may have caused you whether they deserve it or not. It is a decision to let go of resentment or vengeance toward a person or group of people. When we choose to forgive, we’re wiping the slate clean, cancelling a debt, or as I love to say, “Letting it go.” In the Bible, the Greek word for forgiveness literally means to “let it go.” This concept, “forgiveness,” is easier said than done. Majority of people find it very difficult to let go of offenses and hurts caused by others. I really do believe that most people desire to let it go, but we lack the knowledge of how to do it. As believers, we are instructed by God maintain an attitude of forgiveness.
A strong Christian lesson on the true nature of forgiveness can be found in Christ’s Sermon on the Mount:
