Introduction: this lab, I worked as a forensic anthropologist to determine as much information about the bones of the skeleton our teacher provided us with to help identify the individual. I used metric and nonmetric data to determine race, age, sex, and height. Forensics: Perseverance, curiosity, keenness, common sense, and preciseness are all attributes a forensic anthropologist should partake. Perseverance and curiosity are needed for a forensic anthropologist to be driven in identifying the bones of an individual when at work. Keenness and common sense along with preciseness come into action when the measurements and identification of bone characteristics come into play. A forensic pathologist is responsible for determining the cause, and manner of death. In the process of identifying the victim and the time, manner and cause of death, the forensic pathologist will study the medical history, evaluate crime scene evidence and witness testaments, perform an autopsy, and collects trace evidence from the body for further analysis. (Question 8) Other identifying traits that can be determined from the bones of a person are the following. If a person’s teeth are worn down it could be a sign of a poor diet and or if the persons teeth are well maintained and have good dental could be a sign of well upkeep and possible wealth. If the persons remains knees are worn out or damaged it could be a sign of a person who had a laborious job or was an active athlete. It is also false that the skull is the best indicator of an individual’s sex since the best indicator of sex is known to be the pelvic bone. Nevertheless, it is true that it is not possible to determine the height of an individual if the race is and sex of the remains have not yet been determined because the individuals race plays a role in indicating the height. As does the sex, since females tend to have smaller bones in general than males. It is also true that it is not uncommon for a skeleton to exhibit characteristics of more than one racial group because in the modern era everyone is bound to have mixed races in their ancestry. Finally, it is true that in relation to the skull, the humerus bones are inferior, lateral, and distal because it is found under the skull(inferior), lateral to the skull (on the side), and distal (away from the midline).
