What comes to mind when you see the words, Extreme Environmentalists? Do you think of just people going crazy by burning and destroying things? The term has been loosely defined and used in different ways such as stated above, and also the real definition which is, people who protest against environmental destruction: deforestation, desertification, and so on. What they are protesting about is not just to seem insane or crazy as human beings. They are trying to get their word out on how they feel about certain situations and it seems their voice is not being heard unless they terrorize such things they are against.
The environmental devastation being destroyed by human activities all around the world are causing these extreme environmentalists to draw attention to

They gather in groups and look for construction sites of where these events are occurring. Of course we need trees in nature, but we also need it for other resources as well such as toilet paper, school paper to write on, pencils, and so forth. They are so dedicated and active in their groups and in society trying their hardest to make a difference but our would is advancing so fast in technology and us as human beings are starting to rely on it so I am not sure of these environmentalists winning or taking over as they would want.
I was able to learn more on these events by taking advanced placement environmental science class in high school, where I got to go on trips to see how the world works. The human activities we are active in are impacting the world even if you do not see it or even hear about it. This will actually show a massive impact in the long run. A group I would like to speak on are Tree Huggers. There is a group called, “The Tree Huggers of America,” and they have a website where they peacefully speak briefly on the impact we have on our world and ways in which we can actually reduce the devastation. Though I did not get to observe
In the journal of Environmentalism as Religion, Paul H. Rubin discuss about how environmental is similar to religion. Rubin want everyone to know that the environment and religion are somehow similar in a way, which they both have belief system, creation stories and original sin.
Throughout the nineteenth century, Americans advanced westward at an unparalleled pace. Motivated by greed, these pioneers plundered through the previously plush territory, believing the nation’s resources to be inexhaustible and failing to contemplate possible consequences. In particular, anxious lumbermen and ranchers rapaciously ravaged the land in pursuit of instant profits. Fortunately, a few prudent people recognized the need for protective legislation. This nascent environmentalist movement was officially recognized when the federal government claimed responsibility over the preservation of the nation’s natural resources in 1877, with the passage of the Desert Land Act. Though this legislation was insignificant in itself, its creation
It does not matter what are environmentalists are reasoning and what is behind their movement. Someone that agree with Sober can answer that always the corrects reasoning is matter and we should support the actions that there are a proper reason behind that otherwise we could be not sure what is the right
In 1989, seventy five percent of Americans identified themselves as environmentalists, and the number has continued to grow since then (Walls 1). Environmentalism is now the most popular social movement in the United States, with over five million American families donating regularly to environmental organizations (Walls 1). Environmentalists today focus on what kind of world they hope to see in the future, and largely deal with limiting pollution and changing consumption rates (Kent 1 and 9). Modern environmentalists also have much different issues than those Carson’s America faced. With climate change becoming more threatening each year, protection of the natural world is needed more than ever. Pollution has caused the warmest decade in history, the deterioration of the ozone layer, and species extinction in extreme numbers (Hunter 2). It not only threatens nature, but also human populations, who already suffer from lack of clean water and poisoning from toxic chemicals (Hunter 16). Unlike environmental actions in the 1960’s, which were mostly focused on protection, a massive increase in pollution has caused efforts to be focused on environmental restoration (Hunter 16). Like in the time of Silent Spring, environmentalists are not only concerned with one country. Protecting the environment remains a global issue, and every nation is threatened by the
The United States has earned the reputation of a rebellious country since its birth in the revolution against Britain. Over the course of history, Americans have repeatedly confronted oppression, both foreign and national, through various wars and rights movements. Unfortunately, when it comes to environmental issues the average American has grown increasingly complacent. With a renewed urgency, government is working to combat global warming, but lacks the necessary social backing. This social support could be supplied through a new environmental movement that differs from past efforts. Throughout American history there have been three categories of environmental movements: preservation, conservation, and modern reform, all of which have failed to bring a ubiquitous social change and substantial impact on the overall environmental health.
Humans can not be the only thing that is hurting the Earth. When you really think about it, Earth goes through a lot of natural disasters, which cannot be controlled. According to an activist, Tim Haering, “Tsunamis, floods, volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, disease nature kills more than we kill each other.” Earth throws in all of these natural ...
An environmentalist is a person who worships the environment and cares for nature more than people. Christians and others share the common perception that environmental ethics exist for how human beings should relate to the land, the free market, and the environmental. Humans share a relationship with all creations of the earth. But as humans, they find themselves as having a role in the created order, which is they have a closer relationship with the creator who has charged them with acting responsible within his creation. Even allowing a common complaint of environmental activists is that Stewardship means that the earth was made exclusively because of human beings - that having dominion over nature is the same as having the power and authority of dominion.
After the publishing of her book, there were four eras of environmentalism that would forever shape the movement. Each brought something new to the table, whether good or bad. However, as Sale described, the true environmental movement did not begin until there was substantial evidence of global warming. I think that we are in a new era this movement, but the implications of it for now are unknown. From a historical standpoint, we should not take Earth’s warnings for granted and instead should work together to find solutions to make a better Earth. Not only for ourselves, but for future generations to
Environmentalism is not just a simple word, with a specific definition, in order to understand the complications of this word, it is important to look back at the history. The concerns for wilderness, the global warming and other natural concerns first opened the door to preservation, which would be considered the first form of environmentalism, most of the preservationists were religious, that even suggested the none use of resources in order to protect them. The other movements like conservationists, which wanted to use natural resource while protecting them, through following certain rules and regulations. Furthermore the rule claimed by environmentalists or environmentalism is to protect and sustain life for the next generations, to make the earth a better place to live in, but when it come to how to do it, there is always a difference, like any other human issue.
All of these things are happening due to human’s greedy actions and pollution. As a society, we need to band together to save our Earth. My family and I have taken many trips to Catalina Island over my lifetime and I have personally seen the increase of water levels. Caves that were easily accessible are now SCUBA diving locations. This is changing the ecosystems in the oceans, which have a large impact on our lifestyle. There are so many small things people can do to change these detrimental effects, including taking shorter showers, using a broom instead of a hose to clean a driveway, and buying energy efficient appliances and cars to lower carbon dioxide. If everyone made a small change toward sustainability, our environment and atmosphere would have an exponential decrease in global warming and temperature. After watching this film, I realized that I need to pull my weight and work to decrease my carbon footprint. I did not realize how much of an impact my daily habits have on the Earth and how easily I can change
This persuasive speech was given in Rio de Janeiro, and was a plea to the individuals in attendance at the United Nations Earth Summit to recognize how they are contaminating the environment with hopes that these audience members will revise their future proposals.
As an environmentalist (or a "radical" environmentalist, as I am often labeled by members of the mainstream environmental movement), I feel it is my duty as a protector of the Earth's well-being to write this editorial as a means of bringing into the American consciousness a variety of frightening environmental issues. Though some of you may be aware of these problems, I know many are not, and thus may be shocked to learn about the degradation of our Earth and the people living in it. Indeed, I truly believe that "since the dawn of the industrial age, America has behaved like an alcoholic with a good job—prospering despite a lifestyle that jeopardizes the future and ruins much of what is good with irresponsible behavior.
Since the emergence of the environmental movement, America today is more ecologically friendly compared to thirty years ago. At the same time, the average consumption in today's society is rapidly increasing. Luckily, environmentalism has become a highly accepted movement among the public. However, the advocacy of environmentalism has become a polarized movement. Over the years society has made the argument that federal agencies are seen as environmental destroyers, whereas the grassroots and local organizations are viewed as saviors of the movement. In reality, this polarization of environmentalism has resulted in the halt of activism in the environmental movement. Society needs to evolve the environmental movement and create a balance between government activism and the local/grassroots group’s activism. Attention should be focused on diversifying the movement and gaining support from all levels of government.
Environmental philosophers are able to open up a range of different ideas behind our environmental crisis. They do this by not only looking at physical marks left by humans on the earth but also at the very humans themselves. Theories don’t only explain complex dynamics and structures but give us an opportunity to reflect upon our own behaviors and decisions in relation to the environment.
Many people assume that the environment is not in danger. They believe that as technology advances, we do not need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They state that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In reality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are slowly disappearing, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
