There are a lot of different definitions on what an environmental assessment can be and it all depends on a person’s definition of what they consider an environment to be. But in general an environmental assessment can be defined as the significance of impact that comes from the uncertainty of a proposed project (). This impact can therefore require that an environmental assessment to be done to assist in making resolutions for such. Environmental assessments are generally found in the Integrated Environmental Management (IEM) toolbox; and these assessments ranges and includes assessments such as social impact assessment, strategic environmental assessment, life cycle assessment, environmental impact assessment to name but a few. But a focus …show more content…
It has the aim of predicting the negative as well as the positive environmental impacts that can come up from a proposed project and tries to reduce the adversity of these impacts. This tool is intended to be project specific as well as site specific and moves away from strategic issues (DEAT, 2004). The key phases of EIA includes scoping which involves the determining of spatial and temporal limits, alternatives of the project as well as key issues that need to be addressed in the EIA (DEAT, 2004). Another key phase is the actual impact assessment that involves the investigation of issues that came up in the scoping process. Measuring and assessing of potential impacts is done to be able to optimise positive impacts and also minimizing the negative ones (DEAT, 2004). Specialists are used to conduct studies, stakeholders involvement is also critical as well as the requirement of assessments of impact significance. All the results that are gathered in the assessment are represented in an Environmental Impact Report …show more content…
Other advantages of this tool is that more informed environmentally sensitive decisions are made, it increases accountability and transparency in the development process and contributes positively towards the achievement of sustainability (Beder, 2003). Constraints… STRATEGIC ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT There are numerous definitions on what a Strategic Environmental Assessment is and they usually fall in two different categories; an EIA-based SEA, where it represents the extension of EIA and the sustainability led SEA that focuses more on the proactive considerations of the objectives of sustainability are enabled (DEAT, 2004). This is a way to determine environment effects of decisions that are made at policy, plan and programme (PPP)
This Environmental Impact Statement and its enclosed project alternatives can be reviewed for project approval as well as any additional scoping that may be necessary. The preferred build alternative should be selected because of the low environmental impact and beneficial economic benefits compared to the other build and no-build alternatives.
The need for public participation is emphasised on the Agenda 21. The most important prerequisite for the achievement of sustainable development is participation in decision making. The need for the civil society to participate on environmental impact assessment procedures is fundamental and to also participate in decision making that will affect the community in which they reside in. people also have the right to receive prior notice of environmental risks and the right to affective remedy where the environmental damage has been
Community environmental impact analysis is a systematic process for identifying, describing and evaluating community natural and human resources & makes improvement about their management. The main points which are considered under the environmental impact analysis-:
Environmental impact assessment (EIA) entails a multifaceted appraisement of the possible aftermath caused by a project or action on the surrounding man-made and natural environment (Wood, 2003). This systematic process requires the involvement of all interested stakeholders in the process and the public, in order to achieve a widespread consent on the planned project and mitigation strategies proposed [European Commission (EC), 2014].
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been broadly defined as an assessment process in which the environmental considerations of a development proposal are taken into account in the decision making process. In its official definition the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA) describes EIA as:
The court has ordered the environment impact assessment to be redone. However, the lobby group claims the state environmental agency has lost credibility and requests an independent report from the Federal Environmental Management Agency. This has created a conflict between the project management and various stakeholders
1.1 Objective: The objective of the Environmental Site Assessment Phase 1 was to identify purpose for which it was conducted. ESA Phase 1 can be executed for various purposes such as identification of specific incident on site, probable areas of environmental obligation, designated substances and for baseline study to development of Phase 2 ESA. The development of environmental regimes involves a five-fold process. The first process is the agenda setting and issue definition stage, which identifies and brings attention to an issue to the international community. Secon...
The first phase of a strategic analysis, Macro Environmental Analysis, commonly referred to a PESTLE framework, is the assessment of opportunities and threats to the industry where the firm belongs that is outside the control of our industry. The PESTLE stands for Political, Economic, Socio-cultural, Technological, Legal and Environmental (Pestle-Macro environmental analysis, 2012), describes a framework of macro-environmental factors used in the environmental scanning component of strategic management, forming part of the external analysis when making a strategic analysis; it basically gives an overview of the different macro environmental factors that the company has to consider. Strategic PESTLE Analysis helps us identify the growth or decline tendencies, business position, possible threats, and direction for operation.
Environmental management awareness rose up for last decades until today. So in managing and avoiding environmental degradation happen continuously, the are several policy and regulation formed from time to time. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) And Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is two of environmental protection that being implemented. Most country have the same policy but in own standard of control. These policy primary goal is to ensure the implementation and enforcement
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is ‘the process of decision making by identifying the potentially significant environmental effects and risks of a project’. Environmental impact analysis is one of the stages of an EIA (Sadler and McCabe, 2002). Environmental impact analysis is a process of providing decision makers with an indication of the likely consequences of their action (Wathern, 2013).
Filling stations are considered one of the projects that have a negative impact on the environment thus Environmental Impact Assessment is implemented to avoid or prevent a sudden increase in the number of filling stations across the world. According to Wood (2003) EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) is a tool for the anticipation of different potential environmental impacts caused by different human activities taking place in the environment. A sudden increase in the number of filling stations exerts pressure on the environment, therefore measures should be taken to conserve our natural environment.
Tools such as Environmental scan, SWOT-analysis and Porter’s Five Forces Model can be used to analyze and evaluate the environment.
Because of the difficulties of direct specification Varga (2009) uses the key competences of the European Reference Framework (2007) for interpreting components of environmental competence. Using the mother language both in written and oral form is necessary to be able to understand and communicate information. Recognizing the problems is only the first step on the way of becoming more sustainable. Collecting appropriate background information, implementing action plans and discussing them require the adequate knowledge of the mother language and foreign languages as well. Digital competence allows data analysis and usage of modern information systems.
Environmental management is a process in which a certain company, individual, or partnership do to help protect the cleanliness of the environment. Basically it involves the management of the environment, but the deeper meaning is the step by step process that one does to impact the environment in a good way. It is also implementing behaviors that will benefit the environment.
