In order for IT to provide business value to the organization personnel are required to have the right training. According to IBM about 90 percent of all organizations do not have all the skills they need to be successful. In the other hand, about 84 percent of the best performing employees are receiving the training they need to perform at the level they are required to perform. “About 80 percent of managers believe effective training is essential to any project success, skill level when connected to business value results in 10 percent increase in productivity” (IBM, 2014). “The most effective communications we have are when IT management reaches out directly to employees – through open forums, small teams and one-on-ne meetings.” The fundamental value of knowing employees and learning about their cultural differences and similarities can lead an easier path to link IT with business value (Gartner, p.
Throughout humankind, communication has been used from sending firer signals to the pony express; communication is a very important part of our world today. Team Leader and member should always know their audience. Managers have all the tools necessaries to get their message across from meeting, email, office bulletin board, using FedEx. No matter how they chose to get the message across effective communication is important.
Evolving communications technology has changed the way business personnel communicate within an organization. The use of technology allows companies to be more dynamic and adaptive to changes by allowing instantaneous communications via interconnected computer networks. This dependency on information and communications technology has evolved these emerging technologies as crucial tools for providing operational support to business communications tasks (Wilkinson, 2006). Remaining competitive is a primary goal of organizations and effective communications help companies achieve this goal. Competency in communications is considered the root of success for many activities including planning, organizing, team work, and leadership (Waldeck, Durante, Helmuth, & Marcia, 2012).
Organizational communication is a sustainable system of people working together to achieve a common goal, through division levels of stratification according to rank and duty (Everet M. Rogers). Communication is the means whereby organizations coordinate management of material resources and human resources through formal structural pattern of the duties and authority (Robert Bonnington).Communication organizations are sending and receiving various messages in the cluster formal organization or informally from an organization (Wiryanto, 2005). In its broadest sense, it is a part of the overall governance of an entity, but with a specific focus on improving the management and control of Information Technology for the benefit of the primary stakeholders. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to ensure that IT along with other critical activities is adequately governed. Although the principles are not new, actual implementation requires new thinking because of the special nature of IT.” (National Computing Centre, n.d.).
The assignment research revealed that legacy programs endure due to the risks and expenditures of changing them (Lamb, 2008). Legacy replacement strategies can flop, not only injuring the reliability of the IT unit, but also the livelihoods of management (Lamb, 2008). The efforts and expenses required in system testing and the possibility of a colossal end-user reskilling program can be enormous (Lamb, 2008). Funds for upgrades are challenging to acquire due to the fact IT budgets are split amongst preserving the status quo and delivering modern functionality (Lamb, 2008). ...
To ensure effective communication of the organizational change, the following communication efforts will be implemented:
The case study of Hefty Hardware shows a typical lack of inter-department communication, among company main business units and the IT department. Managers and stakeholders are unable to estimate the value that IT department brings to company business, and tend to neglect or debase it; the IT team, on the other hand, fails to communicate their milestones, technological difficulties and incompatibilities when implementing new projects and other aspects of IT operation in a comprehendible manner. The recent of suggestion by company CIO is to take some managers and top-ranking of IT department out into the field, to see for themselves how Hefty Hardware stores operate from the inside. Also, how can this vision to use for the improvements into current ERP implementation, or in general, company IT infrastructure, policies and procedures. Unfortunately, this suggestion has serious drawbacks, which will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
Since the adoption of information technology (IT), the complexity of corporate IT environments has been growing steadily. In practice, IT complexity growth has given rise to various problems. First of all, IT management has become more and more difficult thereby increasing operational risks. Beyond that, IT complexity has also fueled maintenance and operating costs. As a consequence, there is often a perceived deviation between a firm’s business strategy and the information systems (IS) available to support this strategy.
In a detailed look, ITIL processes can be linked to the organization’s strategy, internal business environment and IT strategy to contribute to business service excellence. At the strategic level, the organization’s mission feeds into the vision, and together they set the strategic goals and key result areas as detailed in the strategic plan. The IT strategy has to be aligned with the strategic plan through effective performance management and reporting. At the tactical level, the business objectives and core business activities are used to determine the key performance indicators and are detailed in the business plan. At the operational level, IT infrastructure management includes operational management, operational level agreements, event and fault management, and element management. These four operational components ensure activities and processes support the business requirements and provide performance metrics to feed back

One of the main aspects in communicating is listening. An effective listener is one who, not only comprehends how the speaker feels but, also understands what they are stating. Building a strong connection between the speaker and the listener is one of the first steps to become a good listener. By building this connection speakers should first be in an environment with open minded listeners, it makes them feel more comfortable to state their opinions, feelings and ideas. Listeners should avoid being judgmental. The individual does not have to agree with the ideas, values or opinions of the speaker; however, to fully understand them, one must put aside their criticism.
