When going off to college, a young adult may feel overwhelmed with the looming sense of responsibility hanging over his/her heads. Starting off a new life is hard and it seems as if when one finally gets the freedom they’ve been looking forward to for his/her entire adolescent life, they just don’t know where to start. Family member and friends can give all the advice they can but it will never be enough; they can make a list of all the items the new adult needs but it may be too long or too short for them. No matter what is given, it will never be good enough since everyone enters the new world in a different light. It is true that with a credit card, an irresponsible student may get themselves into debt, but those types of people should be more educated on credit cards and the trouble they can get themselves into when considering getting one. To those that can handle the responsibility, a credit card can be a very useful item to college students due to the mass amount of purchasing the college student has to do, the most expensive item being books. However, if a credit card is off the list, a debit card is the safer route. Debit cards prevent overspending and do not access money that one does not have. If a college student has a job, it is very important to have a debit card so they can cash their paychecks and not have to pay with everything in cash, especially if there needs to be some purchasing online. Having both the credit card and the debit cards are very helpful to a college student, but having just the debit card is fine …show more content…

But, for the most part, it is a given that most students either need these items or find them very useful to himself/herself to help the student get through college. When facing the real world on his/her own, it is harder for those not sure of what to need. The list is compiled of what is necessary to the average student starting off college and what students might find the most useful in her/her life. Though some would disagree, a computer, an alarm clock, and a debit or credit card is essential due to all of these items
