Humans are special creatures because they have various kinds of abilities, such as imagination, imitation and comprehension. As times goes on, people will improve their abilities because they use them frequently. If people are unsatisfied with their current situations, they will consider more possibilities of their lives and start to think about how to improve themselves. People are naturally curious about new information so they try their best to imitate the behaviors that are new to them. Both imagination and imitation are mental processes of forming new images and new behaviors. Today, Imagination is more useful than memes’ learning. Through counterfactual thinking, people can get lessons from the past and avoid failures. Gopnik use the example of stopping smoking to show the power of imagining the possible world. She states that “Once I know that smoking causes cancer I can imagine possible worlds in which my actions cause people to stop smoking, and conclude that in those worlds they will be less likely to become ill” (172). According to her, If the author take actions to stop smoking, the world will have less cancer so that less people will suffer from cancer. People born with the abilities of counterfactuals and memes. As time going, Their abilities will be improved because people use them frequently. With the help of those abilities, people are have more chance to succeed. To be able to imagine, people need to think about different ideas that will make people creative. Memes also help people imitating other people and teaching children to get along well with the world. In some case, imagination and imitation can use together and make it easier to achieve the goals.
