INTRODUCTION This chapter analyses the research findings of researchers worldwide with regard to fabric comfort, significance of spacer fabric, low stress mechanical properties, thermophysiological comfort properties, moisture management properties and body armour system. 2.2 FABRIC COMFORT Comfort is an important characteristic of materials and it is considered as a fundamental property of a textile material. Slater (1986) defined comfort as a pleasant state of physiological, psychological and physical harmony between a human being and the environment’. Li (1998) defined comfort as a holistic concept, which is a state of multiple interactions of physical, physiological and psychological factors. The components involved in human comfort are …show more content…
In their analysis, the spacer fabrics are found to have unique properties with specific structures that cannot exist in traditional textile fabrics. Xiaohuaon et al (2005); Martin (2010) developed the WKSF for cushioning application and were manufactured on a Karl Mayer Raschel machine RD 6 DPLM / 30 by means of two needle beds and six guide bars. The machine had the gauge of E 16 and the needle bed distance varied from 12 to 30mm. Yanping et al (2012) simulated WKSF with 3D computer simulation. In their experiment, the extraordinary features of WKSF are the two outer surface layers linked by middle layer of pile yarns to form a sandwich appearance. The outer surface layers are constructed by the front and back needle beds of warp knitting machines. Correspondingly, the surface structures can be knitted into any kind of plain or mesh structure to get the dimensional stability, mechanical and comfort properties. Throughout the knitting, the spacer yarns form stitches consecutively to the front and back needle bars for connecting the two outer surface layers and creating a middle layer. To facilitate different requirements, spacer yarns can be knitted by means of different structures and special effects on the spacer fabric cross section can be
When examining textile damages, two common techniques are considered i.e. macroscopically (with the naked eye) and microscopically examining the area that might have possible damages to the fabric. Also, looking at the characteristics of the area to discover whether the textile has been torn, punctured, cut etc...

Manipulation of the human condition, by where and with who contentment and satisfaction is found, is fabricated through experiences which dictate direction and purpose. William Shakespeare’s pastoral comedy, As You Like It (1611) explores individuals escaping a world poisoned by man’s inhumanity to man, to an ideal bliss where community thrives from the joyous aura circulating amongst people. Gillian Dawson’s short story, East Wind captures disconnection from place and people as a powerful driving force to find fulfilment. Further, the texts explore comfort and security spurring from the unexpected, revealing change in human nature at an instant.
The look and feel of leather exudes elegance, style, and strength. It makes any plain object appear extra ordinary. This is how powerful a leather is.
Family centred care and comfort care theory both work for the well being of patient. Family centred care focus to work with family while providing care for the sick child. Family and pediatric staff works in collaboration to make care plan that works the best for sick child (Coyne, O'Neill, Murphy, & Costello, 2011). Similarly, comfort care theory focus on child’s physical, psychospiritual, sociocultural, and environmental aspects. “When comfort needs are addressed in one context, total comfort is enhanced in the remaining context” (Kolcaba & Dimarco, 2005, p. 190). When nurses apply comfort care theory, it is to achieve holistic care of sick children by focusing on all aspects (Kolcaba
Today, when you walk down just about any populated street, any busy hallway, or take a seat on any public bus, there’s a good chance what someone’s wearing might catch your eye for a number of reasons, maybe a strong message or a beautiful design. This trend of placing imagery and messages on clothing apparel started around the turn of the 20th century with the increasing popularity of politically branded accessories. Since then, apparel of all kinds have become canvases for artists and corporations alike. Today, silk screening; an ever-evolving medium is regarded by many as the best there is for apparel design and some forms of artistic expression, and it continues to evolve and grow to this day. Although Silkscreening has changed throughout the years, especially once more advanced technology was mixed into the art, for many, it’s the time-tested methods that have been used for decades that prove to be
Hospice is giving dignity, support and love to end of life patients. Hospice works with the patient’s pain to give the patient comfort, not to hurry death or hasten the dying process, but to relieve symptoms that are sometimes associated with grief and dying. In my experience, I have witness the positive effects associated with comfort care for both patients and love ones. Dying patients grieve for various reasons. Sometimes it is mentally, physically, emotional or psychological and it affects their love ones as well as their level of comfort. Our promise to every patient we take care of is “To provide exceptional care, to guide the patient and their family on their journey, and to respect their choices. Their comfort, needs and wishes come first. They can count on us when and where they need us” (Hospice and Palliative Care, 2013).
Weaving is a common thread among cultures around the world. Weaving is a way of producing cloth or textile. Today we have machines that weave large-scale textiles at cheap prices. Production of cloth by hand is rarely engaged in today’s Westernized societies. Not many people are thinking about how the fibers are actually constructed to make their clothes. However, in other cultures across the world the tradition of weaving still exists. By comparing three cultures that continue weaving as a part of their tradition we can see similarities and the differences between them. The reasons that each culture still weaves vary, as do the methods and materials. The desired characteristics of the cloth also vary around the world as each culture values different aesthetics.
Fabrics can be made of natural and synthetic materials. Natural fabrics, like cotton (NY Fashion Center) for example, are found here on earth while synthetic fabrics are manmade (MV Styles). There are many distinguish ways to determine if a fabric is natural or synthetic. Each fabric is different in its own way due to it reaction to heat, its odor, residue and chemicals (MV Styles). Fabrics are seen and used every day and in every way. Synthetic material has been pushed more into the picture because it much easier to make and the cheapest to buy. Synthetic materials are sometimes made form fossil fuels like coal. Cotton and Broadcloth are natural fabrics; Polyester is synthetic and Flannel in a synthetic blend with cotton. Fabrics are made up of fibers which have their own chemical structure, which determines their classification. Polymers make up the fibers (Ball-Deslich and Funkhouser). Since cotton is natural, it comes from a natural cellulose fiber with the polymer of glucose (Cotton). Polyester is synthetic which can be classified as saturated or u...
The Chinese garment workforce has not been spared in the recent times as they are faced with multiple poor conditions in the textile industry. Garment industry in China constitutes of many internal migrates from the rural parts who face extreme working conditions such as low wage income, extended working hours, uncoordinated labor unions. In addition, the Chinese workforce in the garment industries is threatened by occupational ailments especially from the fabric treatment technique such as sandblasting that may lead to a condition referred to as silicosis.
Due to James Kay’s invention of the flying shuttle, there was a great imbalance in the 1730’s between weavers and spinners. Kay made it possible for weavers to quickly produce the amount of fabric that was demanded, but the spinners were still unable to make thread t...
In conclusion, the research has realized that sustainable fashion is among the developing project perspective and movement of sustainability. The project has the main goal of establishing an arrangement, which can be continued for the foreseeable future in terms of conservationism and social liability. It was noted that all the products made are developed with much consideration to the environmental and social influence all through its overall lifetime encompassing its carbon imprint. The research went further in discussing some components of sustainable fashion including fibre, which includes the employment of ecologically friendly resources such as bamboo, organic carbon as well as hemp. Accordingly, some benefits were provided to show how vital sustainable fashion is to the producer, consumer, and to the environment. However, despite all these, there are some challenges that
The main problem which was needed to overcome was the selection of the fabric. Due to sustainable principle, I tried best to find the most sustainable fabrics; however, it was full of challenge. 100% silk organza, 100% silk taffeta and 100% Merino wool which were essential in my project were hard to discover in the fabric market in the UK. After consideration, I decided to order these expensive fabrics from China and finally sorted out the problem.
The evolution of fashion is an essential work for everyone concerned with designs and costumes for different stages over the period of time. Clothing are a necessity also they are function. The change of garments depends on the weather and fabric
From 2005 the textile segment has been made up of 2 companies, transforming raw materials into fabrics, from spinning to finishing and ennobling. Handicraft product quality and technological research development characterize this business segment which works with internationally recognized names of the apparel and fashion industry.
