Classroom design is one of the most important aspects of one’s learning. Studies show that classroom design can actually influence a student’s academic performance by as much as twenty-five percent. (AGRON) Also, findings suggest that placing an average student in one of the best designed classroom environments compared with one of the worst designed equates to a year of academic progress. (AGRON) Best designed classrooms consist of better technology, comfortability, and its clean environment.
Technology is one of the biggest influences on learning today. Many wealthier schools have everything technology based. They have assignments, tests, lessons, etc. all online. Many schools have assignments where you can connect to it as a group through

Studies show that the more comforting the room the better students test. (Heverinen) Students need to feel at home not like they’re in a prison. How will they be able to focus if they are on edge and worried? They must feel comfortable with what is around them to focus better. Therefore, the classroom needs to be designed in a way that would be the best comforting for all students. Studies have shown that students in more comforting environments tended to test much better than those that were more uncomfortable. (Heverinen) A comforting classroom could consist of couches and pillows. One may think this is silly but this actually makes students much more comfortable for it reminds them of home and to be relaxed.
Classrooms must also consist of a clean environment. They need to be sanitized. Mold and insects are the two biggest things that can effect students. This causing them distractions or sickness. Many schools end up with ants and cockroaches. Some have even had snakes and such. This is unacceptable.
There are many key things to have the best classroom design. That consisting of technology, comfort, and the cleanness of the room. Students must be safe and comfortable. They need to have what can best help them learn, that being with this generation, more technology. Students tend to do much better under these circumstances. The classroom is where the student stays to learn and test therefore is needs to be designed in a way that would
In the school I have been working at the air conditioning has been broken. Some classrooms are too hot while others are too cold. I have been unfortunate being placed in one of the rooms that get too hot. I watch the students in this classroom struggle with paying attention and focusing on the lesson. Many students complain throughout the day, but all that can be done is cracking open the windows a little. The room around us plays a role in the way we learn. When we are uncomfortable, it is hard to think about anything but
*My overall consideration in setting up my room was student safety. I then took into account best practices for their learning and designed my room from there in order to be accessible to all students when needed to best support their learning.
Creating and Maintaining an efficient classroom environment for students can be a difficult task to accomplish. With the amount of distractions and behavioral issues teacher encounter on a daily basis, it becomes essential to prepare and try to prevent them. Our goal for students is for them to receive the most optimal opportunity for learning while spending minimal time disciplining and managing. In order to do so we must hold ourselves accountable as teachers for establishing order and also the students accountable for their own actions. If a good classroom environment is set up, I believe students can learn effectively without feeling restricted. Although students can be unpredictable and not all strategies are proven to work, the efforts made towards creating this environment are what produce a difference.
According to the “STAR SHEET – Effective Room Arrangement” teachers should follow 4 strategies that help them to set up the classroom rules, procedures and arrangements. Minimizing distractions, maximizing access, matching arrangement, and movement with ease make possible a better environment for students and teacher. These strategies will help the teacher to have control over the students and reduce misbehaving. In the case study, these four students will be located in the following order.
learn in my classroom. I believe that every teacher has a right to teach in a safe environment with
What I learned during the observation is that have a good layout and a good environment setting children are more willing learn and play with the children around them. They need to feel that they are apart of the classroom. That is part of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need. You environment the classroom need to make children feel safe because if they don’t feel safe they are always going to be on high alert and not pay attached to what going on they are also not going to play or do anything in the classroom. Having the right environment makes it easy for children to explore and learn everything they need have those center or station is not just their for children to have fun and play that because while they are playing and have fun they are learning.
The environment in which a student learns is integral to how much they learn and how they feel about learning. Jones & Jones (2016) believe that “effective classroom management is first and foremost about creating classroom environments in which all students feel safe and valued”(p.7). As teachers, we are faced creating the type of environment in which students will thrive. Part of creating this type of environment, involves creating clear and concise classroom expectations for students to meet. In additions to creating expectations, it is also up to the teacher to “respond effectively when students behave in ways that detrat from their own learning” (Jones & Jones, 2016, p. 9). Although it is not always the highlight of our teaching career,
When building a classroom, the indoor learning environment will be influenced by the building and play area that surrounds the building. A classroom needs to have adequate space for children to play, explore and learn. Children need to have continuous access to water, bathrooms and a sink for handwashing. Although each room or center will be different they need to maintain areas that are easily and safely supervised from all areas of the classroom. The space needs to be organized into learning centers with well-defined areas. Areas such as science, art, sensory, bathrooms and eating areas need to be near a water source. Other areas such as block areas, library and housekeeping should be kept in areas with large area rugs or carpet.
Since the early 1200’s when the first university opened its doors in Italy, the trend manifested its way towards the United States with Harvard University in the 1600’s. Even though the basic classroom consisted of some desks, a teacher front and center, and little ones eager for recess and masters of eye avoiding, it has evolved heavily with great detail. “Changing the physical structure of a classroom is one way to alter the environment of a classroom…support the interactive environment of group work, which allows students to control their own learning and presents them with direct feedback in the learning process.” ( Mary Ann Polityka.) Classrooms of higher education serve now as room of learning and focus. It may not seem like the basic settings of education and the individuals within effect how students learn, but it greatly impacts each and every one of them.
Comfortable seating in very new and already teachers love it. When you are sitting in a comfortable seating classroom, you will most likely see a lot of yoga balls, blankets and, a lot of clipboards!
For the last two years, I watched my best-friend, Amber Hull, design a LATIClassroom with excitement and passion. It’s refreshing to listen to her talk about educational programs that she is working on with her students. It makes me want to design a classroom that offers students a variety of choices.
As a teacher, I would strive for a classroom that would be conducive to learning. I feel that linear seating allows for more structure in the classroom. However, interest should be stimulated by the display of attractive bulletin boards that are pertinent to the material being taught. The use of supplemental materials such as videos and computers are a must in educational programs. In today`s society everything moves rather quickly and the future generations must be able to keep pace. The world is at our fingertips through these devices. I would also assign projects to reinforce learning. This, of course, would depend on the ability of the groups being taught.
I believe it is equally important to have a classroom that is student-centered. I do not imagine my classroom arranged with rows of seated desks all facing the front of the classroom. Instead, I think that students should have the opportunity to work amongst their peers in small groups, studying a wide array of topics. Students will not be required to focus their attention on on...
Predominant goal is having a classroom management and creating a safe learning environment. Learning how to manage a classroom successfully is a difficult task for teachers. The everyday concern of beginner teachers is classroom management. Beginners teachers report the weak classroom management skills and disruptive students are the most significance barriers to being a good teacher (Fideler & Haskelhorn, 1999). Teachers have blamed their lesson plans, preparation in their first years of teaching (Ladd, 2000; Monroe, Blackwell, & Pepper 2010). As a teacher, it is my desire to have my students to have a safe learning environment.
During the first day of school, a variety of different students enter the classroom. These students are excited and nervous, they have their parents by their sides who are observing the classroom walls and arrangement. From the minute the students enter the classroom, students are observing the classroom environment and notice the everything. Everything in the classroom needs to have a purpose, but provide a pleasant environment. When preparing and organizing the classrooms, teachers need to consider the different variables that impact the classroom. Classrooms can be disorganized if the walls are cluttered and have no meaning The organizations of the desks, the wall decorations, and the seating arrangements significantly impact the physical environments. Students are like sponges, they soak up everything that surrounds them. In the article A comparison of actual and preferred classroom environments as perceived by middle school students in the Journal of School Health stated “studies have shown that classroom environments are closely related to a number of aspects of student
