The cell phone has become not only a necessity to the American people, but it has been one of the fastest growing pieces of technology since it was publicized. The cell phone is arguably the best and the worst piece of technology ever invented. A man called Martin Cooper invented the very first cell phone in 1973 in Japan. This cell phone cost roughly $3500. However, the outrageously large price made the phone inaccessible to the average person. Just one year short of a decade later, the first mobile phone was released to the public. Again, the bulkiness and ridiculous price made this invention impossible to own. Then in 1996, the greatest cellphone invention was made by Nokia communications. This particular cellular device could access the Internet and send as well as receive emails. The purpose of a cell phone used to just be to get a hold of someone by voice calling and text messaging. Nowadays cellphones can take pictures, navigate you across the country, and hold thousands of songs. Has the cell phone forever changed the way people communicate? It is very rare to meet a person who does not use/own a cell phone in modern times. Cell phones are undoubtedly the most hated piece of technology, but the fact is that majority of people cannot live without them. According to John D. Boice, a researcher at the international Epidemiology Institute, in 2009 91% of the population is subscribed to cell phone service, 285 million subscribers in the United States alone, and more than 5 billion worldwide. It is almost impossible to go to a public place and see someone not on his or her cell phone.
